Post count farming...

Got my elite status from spamming motemote. due the timewarp, it got back at 280, took a month to get my elite status back.
Well, if the title is the reason why people are spamming, just remove it.

well true some ppl spamming to get elite or elder status...
remove status and allow users to put a custom title is seems a good idea
but I don't really think that would stop spamming completely because post count is still there...

but removing post count is not a good idea...I guess like or not...it's a ppl nature to spam...

So am I not human?

what I mean is whatever we do spamming will never cease to exist...
there will be spamming as long as we live...

well we just to live with it but in some cases it's too annoying to just ignore

So we must take actions to stop this stupidness.

There are two reasons why someone might "post farm"

1. They want attention

Solution - Don't post in stupid topics started by idiots or respond to idiotic posts. Even if you come tell them how stupid they are, de-rep them, and generally start a fight, you are still validating their post by paying attention to it. Just report their post as spam if it is such and move on.

2. Post count matters for some reason and having a high post count is desirable

Solution - Post count shouldn't matter. Just because someone has 1000 posts doesn't mean they are any better than anyone else. There are people with high post counts on this site who are still idiots, and there are people with 30 posts who have shown that they are valuable members of a topic by making sure that each of their posts was intelligent and contributed something to the thread. If you want to know whether someone is likely to contribute in a meaningful way to a discussion, read their past posts. The number by their username only gives volume. Someone who has made 1000 idiotic posts isn't any less idiotic for it. As for the "Elder" and "Elite" tags, people need to stop taking it so seriously. Just as with rep, most people, myself included, are going to know who they respect on the forum from interacting with those people, not looking to see who has the highest number or the fanciest tags.

ignoring them does not stop them from posting... not sure how that's a solution. And saying post count should not matter is a good point which has no base in reality. It's true that it should be like that but it's not and other than telling people not to care there's nothing you can really do about it.

for those of you who lost a lot of posts over the warp because of motemote... if you regained elite status by the end of motemote you are a spammer, 500 posts in a month is far too much. Can you really say you post with good solid content every time?

The real concern here is that most users don't give a damn about this issue. They just post wherever the hell they want to and they could care less on how others might perceive their posts. They're not even aware themselves that most of their posts are spam. They're so stupid that they don't even realize it on their own. What's the use of reminding those users who don't even understand that there's a limit to what is considered to be as proper posting. Don't we even have a set of rules about this...?

In the end, there's nothing that we can do about it. We're only regular users with no authority whatsoever to tell other users that what they're doing is wrong or against the rules. Even if we do remind them, they just wouldn't fucking listen anyway. They would just continue on unless those who have the power decides to deal with them somehow.

Let's just leave them be... They ought to realize sooner or later that having a mere title amounts to nothing. (people do what they want to do regardless)

With 30 days in a month, all you need to do is make 17 posts a day, and you'll have over 500 at the end of the month. If there are good topics, or if you don't stay in just one section, it's not hard to do at all. That is, if you spend a good amount of time on Fakku.

As for ignoring them, it won't stop them from posting, but it should stop them from being a bother. All a person has to do is ignore the crappy posts and threads, and all's well. The problem isn't so horrible that it keeps the forums from being enjoyable.

It's amazing just how much better you'll feel if you simply ignore bad threads and posts, instead of getting angry at them and cursing them out.

i like cussing them out tbh, but I would much rather they simply not post, or at least see some sort of punishment for it.

Well, they are punished in the sense that they build themselves reputations as being idiots. If they reach the level of spamming, they face whatever punishment spammers normally face.

Simply ignoring them is probably more effective than insulting them. It takes away the incentive to post stupid things, that is, getting attention.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the administration punishing people for being idiots if they want, but it makes more work and they probably have better things to do. Also, if they get overzealous, Fakku might suffer, as newer users might feel unwelcome.

Finally, have any of you ever noticed the double standard concerning stupid posts made by long standing members? I remember some reputable member made a post of a spoiler with nothing in it, and everyone thought it was hilarious. If that had been a new user, they would have been flamed and labeled a troll, or so I believe. Is this acceptable? In a sense, perhaps this user has earned to right to make such frivolous posts on occasion by building a reputation as a valued member of the community. However, at the same time, such behavior might set an example for newer members to do the same kind of things, which in large doses, are excruciatingly annoying.

There's a certain issue with the spoiler tag in the forum. If you didn't write anything before putting in the spoiler tag, it will show nothing when posted. You can view it on the reply screen or when it is quoted...

No the thread he's talking about just had a spoiler-box containing nothing.
