What's with kids dying these days due to video game addictions?
First it was some kid that died here in Canada because they took his 360 away and ran away like the spoiled brat he was. Now we get this.
I'm blaming the parents. They should go to prison for neglecting the kid. Too bad they're gonna blame the video game like always.

It's not the parents fault, it's the kid's fault. I mean, come the fuck on, how can you not notice when you've passed your limit by like, hours? There's such a thing as restraint, it's his own fault for not exercising it.

While I don't agree with your statement on WOW I concure with your other statement. A lot of the time it is the parents, but sometimes it is indeed the kids' fault as well. When I was six I knew when to take to stop for a while. Once you start feeling sick as hell and your eyes start twitching, that's usually a good sign you need a breather.

This is true. When you are really involved in something, you can ignore the urge to eat or go to the bathroom very easily. I've been playing a game, and thought, "man, I need to piss. Well, I'll do it after this," and then forgot about it for a couple hours.
But I also agree with everyone calling this kid a wuss. Seriously, if you can't manage severel-day-long gaming marathns, then you don't deserve to call yourself a gamer.
It's not even that hard to eat little bits here and there and find places to take a piss or even naps. I knew I guy who was so into WoW he pretty much perfected that art, and could play for over a week at a time without leaving his chair for more than 5 minutes to get drinks, snacks, and to piss.
Learn how to order a pizza, kids.

Damn, you people are more hardcore than me. My crappy record is 18 hours playing Smash Bros. Melee when I was 14. The closest I ever got to that was when I was playing F-Zero GX for 12 hours a day for two weeks straight last year.

It's almost like the article is praising the French guy for doing such a thing. The article doesn't even circle back to the story of the kid who collapsed - it just ends after saying that the French guy had a friend help him level up.
Anyways, the fault doesn't lie with the parents. When you have a fifteen-year-old kid, you don't watch over him all the time and make sure he eats right. He's old enough to do that by himself. And you really don't mess with a fifteen-year-old kid when he has friends over. That shit would get ugly.
About not being a "true gamer" unless you've played a game for days on end, I'm going to have to disagree. The best I've done is probably 30 hours in a weekend (done that a few times with game rentals), and maybe eight straight hours of playing. But it's not like I'm weak or anything. I simply don't like to do anything for too long. That's the same reason I don't watch entire seasons of anime in one day. Plus, I've never found a game that made me want to play for a full day. Are first-person shooters, real-time strategies, and MMORPGs the only games that do that to a person? I don't play any of those. Maybe that's why I've never played for a full day before.

Anybody else starting to think WoW is becoming the new form of natural selection. If not only wow maybe a lot of games are turning into that considering it's weeding out the weak (the kid was a pussy) or that it's removing the less desirable genes from the gene pool thus freeing up room for the rest of us.

I have to defend the family here. I can sympathize.
Have you tried telling a fifteen-year-old to stop doing something? How about when he's with his peeps? It's impossible. Maybe the parents didn't try to stop him, but maybe they knew what would happen if they did try - massive shitstorm.
Then again, I could be too hard on the kid. After all, he was Swedish. Maybe he wouldn't have gone crazy, like nine out of ten American kids would have.
