Smackdown news
Great matches. Daniel Bryan won on Raw and Smackdown rematch against Ziggler, Smackdown though the ref was knock down couldn't count Bryan 123. Bryan then got up and gave Ziggler a kick to the back of the head. 123.
Kane's memorial to the Undertaker being buried alive was halted by Alberto, Rey and Edge and Paul Bearer getting a 619. Triple Threat main event no.1 contenders match was great with Edge winning against Rey and Alberto facing Kane on Survivor Series. Seems now Kane is always at the receiving end on Smackdown shows, though always wins at PPV's. Other stuff Drew and Dashing Cody Rhodes tagteam is over after Bigshow vs Kofi. Anyways my favorite Diva's allured me again on their costume tag team. Kelly Kelly's panty shot with her cameltoe focused on the camera was the best! Seems the diva matches are kinda returning back old school, but probably just these few ones.
Other news RAW. Cena won Barret chooses the special referee against Randy Orton for the rematch clause. It's Cena who won due to Barrett disqualification on Orton. The speculation is, If Barrett wins then Cena is off Nexus group, but if Barret loses Cena is fired.
After SmackDown aired, I was again, lost in thought over the Divas division.
They're the greatest casualty of the PG era, as most never noticed but I did. They're having 5-minute matches, skits, quick promos and valet work. Heck, last Monday night Gail Kim was in a match she didn't even wrestle in.
Not that they're not entertaining. If they can't entertain at least, Vince will be so pissed.
There are no more intriguing Divas matches, say Trish vs Lita (SS 2004) and save for a few Divas I can count with my fingers, none of them are real wrestling material. Proof - there's NXT's Kaitlyn, who worked as a fitness model before coming to WWE, no wrestling background whatsoever.
So where did the PG come in? Think about it - family time, you got your kids in the living room watching Raw, then suddenly the kid sees two women punching each other and giving each other suplexes and flying elbows and enzuiguris and jiggling boobs (hello Katy Perry and her bouncing Elmos). I think most parents would like to shield their children from watching it even if it was a five-star match. Sad but mostly going to be true.
But storytelling would have to compensate for what PG may take from the match. I think Lay-Cool is doing a good job at still making the Divas division relevant in the absence, of say, a Beth Phoenix. Lay-Cool is getting in nice promos, and cross-brand promotion also helps. They're still visible, but one can clearly see it's halfway in the water.
How I miss the days when Divas can whack each other with steel chairs. But it's PG, so we have to roll with the flow. And they're still beautiful, so there.
