Im norwegian, and when the U.S is represented on TV they're represented as idiots. from what i've seen of TV programs coming from the U.S such as those fat camps and random tv-series and from what i have experienced with americans when i've actually met them.... god freaking damnit some of the are so melo-dramatic about everything. I can remember once i was at one of Norway's most visited places (tourism at Fløyen), and i saw a american couple together with their kids (every single one of them was considered F.A.T), anyhow when they looked at the view the female got all dramatic and starting crying because it was so beautiful, and then she started shouting at her husband (if he was ;o) for forgetting a camera (oh well, i understand her there). But that moment just kind of... proved all the negative-related stuff that media sends from America.
As a "foreign" (^^) this list is what i think about when i hear the word american:
- Fat
- Melo-dramatic
- An idiot named W.Bush
- Elected a black president because it would be a good symbol to show that there is no public oppression left in america (what the norwegian news tells us)
- Did i say fat?
- Senter of the world
- They will freaking kill Norway if we stop delivering oil to them D:
So yes, i have a negative point of view when it comes to America. It's probably a neat country, but i hate dramatic people...
You can't believe everything the news tells you.
American TV shows are not a good representation of real American life, just like how most of the shows in a country aren't a good representation of real life in that country.
Americans didn't elect Obama to show that there's no such thing as racism, and that's kind of offensive. Not very offensive, only a teeny tiny bit, but still. Obama was elected because he was a Democrat, and we had just had eight years with a very stupid Republican. That, and his speeches often were optimistic and sounded like he could help the citizens out a lot.
As for a lot of Americans being fat, for better or for worse, this is a very privileged country. A lot of people in America can afford to eat as much as they want. Plus, our culture is very fast-paced, due to all sorts of circumstances, and it's acceptable to eat fast food all the time, instead of spending time making food that isn't slathered in grease. It's mostly a product of the culture. I'm not excusing the outrageous obesity, but it's not like every fat American is that way just because of he/she loves food and hates running. There's a bigger picture to look at.
I'd also like to mention that fat people don't solely exist in America. Often, when people complain about Americans being fat, it's like they don't acknowledge that fat people exist in any other country.
