Guns/gun ownership (relevant only for USA'ers)

For missiles well why haven't the Taliban been defeated yet? Exactly how many JADMs have we dropped on them? As for armor well you forget that full armor doesn’t exists there is always open places on the body. The face the neck and on top of that the current us battle helmet can't survive a shot from a Kar-98 (that's a WW2 rifle) how do you think it will stand up against a modern day rifle?

As for the government turning "evil" first I don't believe in "evil" just different view points. Though what you have to remember there hasn't been an atomic weapon dropped since WW2 and there's a reason, because it's just not reasonable. For the party in control to get there they would have to have done something right and I can't think bombing random cities would get anyone anywhere.

Another thought...suppose I challenge somehow the assault weapons ban stating clear wording of the 2nd amendment...has the Supreme Court already ruled on this? Or would it go to trail and the great nine would have to decide on what it means?

I'm not against gun ownership; I believe they can come in handy. But the whole thing about "we need guns to protect us from the government" is a bunch of bull. Maybe if we weren't talking about the US, it might be different. I can understand every citizen in England having a gun and thinking they could fight against the government if it became corrupt, but . . . actually, that makes me wonder: Why doesn't every other country in the world believe that citizens should own weapons in case the government goes crazy? Why aren't French people or Germans afraid that their governments will run amok and take complete control of their lives?

About the thing with "evil," I only meant that if the government did something that would make the majority of citizens want to rebel, like suddenly declare that Christianity was the only right religion and all non-Christians were to be terminated or put into camps, that would show that the government was incredibly fucked-up and thus willing to do whatever was needed to gain control of its citizens. The government wouldn't make crazy demands and then let the citizens walk all over it; it would have simply not made the demands in the first place. In short, if President Obama said, "All Hispanics must die," and was willing to go through with it, what would stop him from treating dissidents like shit and killing them willy-nilly? What would stop him from dropping a nuclear bomb on a city just to shut the citizens up?

maybe he's more afraid of it turning into a heated discussion. I've seen a lot of discussions turning into the rumor how Americans are supposed to be more violent then the rest of the world Which is kinda bullshit but such things are just one of a million different discussions that may pop up and end up as a heated thing that makes people get banned or some even cry..

I saw this kind of thread many times and in many places and nobody change his opinion whatever arguments come in, plus it usually end in a flamewar. I doubt it will be otherwise here. There are many very delicate subjects (lolicon, abortion, religion, politic...) but I always saw much more open minded positions about these ones than about gun rights (don't ask me why).

But honestly La_Mangouste from the little I've seen from this forum today since I joined It seems a lot different then the other hentai community's I randomly stumbled upon the last few years of my life. Not that I know any of their age or anything but I can tell their mature, and I'm sure they can handle a discussion or two without loosing that. Besides isn't the point of making a discussion topic to share different point of views? Even if one doesn't want to change ones opinion?

There are a lot of topics like that in Serious Discussion, but so far, nothing really bad has happened. It seems that most of our users (at least, the ones who post in SD) are able to talk about these sorts of issues calmly and without flaming. That's why the abortion thread isn't a complete pile of shit, even after so many pages.

Well it's a good stress test after all, we'll see if the place is better than 4chan. The thread is young but let's keep hope.

Anyways, back on the subject of guns, I wonder how gun collectors would feel if they could own some really badass guns and weapons, but each weapon had to be modified to not fire. That way, you don't have to worry about a person having a high-powered machine gun that could tear apart a police car, and collectors would be able to get stuff that they can't right now. They won't be able to fire the stuff, but it seems a lot of collectors just want the guns for the look of it.

well.. won't it work the same way to just not collect bullets? I havn't had a gun collection fetish but for the collections I actually do enjoy it won't be the same if their altered, even if it's for the sake of saftey it will feel like I'm collecting something fake. Like the feeling when I first saw Zorro's name when they changed it in america (one piece character. they named him Zolo in america ._.)
