So they've finally done it. Just hope they keep it a secret if they find out it works on humans or else all hell will break loose.

Everyone concerned about overpopulation: stop it.

Seriously, the issue is population density, not population itself. The earth can support significantly more people than it currently does, the problem is all the people living in a select few areas, and even that is not a big problem. So don't worry about it.

Also, most animals, humans included, instinctively control their population in a given area. Basically if there are too many people and not enough resources, generally speaking, fewer people have fewer kids. Humans being foolish creatures, though, certain variables make this less true at times, but it's usually true enough. It's currently happening in Japan; large population density in cities, and declining birthrates. Alarmingly so, to some people.

And if this procedure works, it can make old people a much smaller burden, letting people work for more of their lives, or at the very least not costing so much to take care of on their slow demise.

I mean, it's not a miracle and it's a long way from practicality, but it's still a valuable find.

If that experiment could then be implemented through humans then we could live longer. But yes overpopulation could happen, however if that happens I guess 2 things would happen in my opinion.

1)We will judge who lives and who dies by their strength and whatever other qualities people might be looking for (Im going for spartan here)

2)Scientist will need to look to space, like the moon to put other humans there to reduce overpopulation.

Fucking with the moon is a HORRIBLE idea.

Meh, the moon's rotation is already slowly escaping the Earth's gravitational field. Pending on what occurs first (Earth dying, Sun dying, or Luna escapes Earth's gravity) there will be catastrophic events that will lead to all live on Earth going extinct anyway. Might as well "fuck" with the moon while we can. Heh.

God, I wish I had been born a few generations from now so I could take advantage of the scientific breakthroughs I know we're going to make in reversing aging. Ah well. Still cool to see this stuff develop.

The sun will die out in 5-7 billion yrs from now and when it does it will take us with it. So knowing that, if within that time we still havent figured out an efficient way to travel to different galaxies and to make new homes in different planet then were screwed..

Also, I want a fucking Moon Base. Bush wanted a Moon Base. Obama's thinking practically and shit, but I want to go to space.

perhaps this would best be achieved by launching trees at the moon! Hahaha!

a moon base could possibly help expand our living space, but we've yet to efficiently establish a foothold on it. it would be interesting to see people living on the moon though, but i have a feeling that the wealthy are going to get there first.

Honestly i think at some point soon the human race will have to learn to live on other planets. Midecine will only become more and more advanced as time goes on

Now, say there was some immortality treatment thing, i think its availability would have to depend on whether humans have got the living on other planets down. The more room there is, the more available it should be imo. If someone wants to live forever they i don't feel others have the right to tell that person its not okay

I myself am a bit skeptical of this article, they say the telomeres become damaged and frayed and they have to "simply" insert an enzyme (telomerases) to reconstruct them, though as far as they explained in the article it said they simply protected and prevented DNA damage. Further studies done previously on mice have shown that they become far more likely to develop to cancerous cells therefor lowering their life expectancy (http://www.liebertonline.com/doi/abs/10.1089%2F1549168041553044) Which makes sense in most cases of forced synthetic enzymes being issued on regular living tissue results in the possibility of tumors (read: cancer)

As well as their point on brain size, whats important is the biomass and functionality in your brain, not its size.

it seems a little simple if you really look at it, but it's great they're going into it. Although population is an issue

As interesting as this is I'm a little worried. Disastrous consequences are bound to happen (like all great discoveries). Other thing is, if we were to stop again all together, how would we as a species start to act? I see death as sort of the fire under are butts, telling us "Carpe Diem, cause when it's all over, I'm coming to get ya".

Dunno, death to me is sort of a reward for working so hard in life. I am religious (go ahead and interpret that as you will) so I'm looking forward to the afterlife....when the time comes. Till then I'll be kicking ass and taking names.
