Eh, we had a good discussion over PM but then you declined to continue responding. You failed to show why it wouldn't make sense to begin doubting someone's intelligence when they cling to their beliefs rather than take a look at empirical evidence (see: facts) that they are given.
It's like if someone claimed the Holocaust was a lie, and despite you showing them multitudes of sources stating otherwise they ignore that and continue saying the same thing over and over.



Probably because he makes illogical arguments a lot and tries to connect unrelated things to try to pass them off as 'theories'. He doesn't do it all the time, I've seen him make perfectly valid arguments in a few threads, so I don't have problem with those even if I don't agree with his opinion. It's all the other times.

I put it down to personal pride and a fear of admitting to not having all the answers.

I just laughed so hard.


As for examples of how he clings to his beliefs;

That is the main issue of anonymitiy. It allows people who normally are well-intentioned be someone who completely disregards others.

Because that's what makes a discussion a serious and/or intelligent one.

Anyways, I guess it has to do with the fact that the Internet allows users to remain anonymous and don't feel threatened by what's typed by other users. They can just choose not to read it and go on spouting nonsense. I'm sure they wouldn't act this way if you knew them personally and have talked to them in person, but that's not the case here. Most people come on here just to pass the time, or to relieve stress by vigorously masturbating to drawn porn, or some other scenario. The point is, they're secure in their homes reading at the randomness that's spewed across the Internet and can spew random thoughts just as well.

Seriously ... i go on forums like SD just to fuck up with people and i've been doign it for a long time on many different forums . It just , entertains me , as much as it frustrates me .

There's 3 important things that i learned people lack / things that people need before beign able to debate of something :

1 : To know the subject ; most people who give their opinions are miss to none informed abouth the subject . Most of them don't even know why they have a particular opinion on a subject .

2 : To know how to debate ;

A: If you make an arguement , make sure you can back it up or just don't make it .

B: If i do an arguement , you need to destroy it (conterargue) , because all i need is one arguement to be right as long as it holds . You can do 1000 aguements in favor of your point , if my single arguement still holds , it wont make it less true . Then after that you can make your own arguements .

3 : The more important , be open minded ; Most people enter debates having "i'm right" in mind . Why do you discuss if you know that you are right then ? Why even bother ? No , the mindset you need is "i don't know if i'm right or wrong , i'm here to find out" .

Many people said it is pride that make people never admit that they are wrong but i don't think it's true . Pride is a feeling that blind people , they know that they are wrong but pride will still convince them that they are right . In most debates people do not seem to even understand that they might be wrong to begin with . It's that mind set that needs to change , you might call that intellectual "maturity" (?) but i never understood that word so ...

I wouldn't consider myself the issue , the issue is the balloons and i am the clown .

I personally hate clowns because they're really annoying and look scary as Hell. So if you are a clown, I hate you. We'll never be friends and I will certainly not open up any arguments with you.

It's the easy route, sadly.

That, and even passionate people can be passionate about the wrong cause.

Can't speak for everyone, but I at least put some thought into something before I post. I'd like to think I keep an open mind on things.

That's why my analogy is perfect .

I'm betting its twofold.

The interwebs let us share our opinions without worry of it coming back to bite us in our regular life, and the other I ascribe to the fact that people have a hard time taking a conversation serious anymore on the internet, where photos of stretched cats rule from pulpits made out of roflcopter parts.

Occasionally, you do find a good discussion or point, but its harder to find because people misinterpret your words. One phrase sent to one person might seem offensive and attacking their opinion, but the same phrase read by another might not seem so. Misunderstandings pile up and then it devolves into a trolling match.

But this is just my personal experience.
