Is a tie 'Sexist?'

So here's the deal. I came across this article on yahoo over a freaking tie and just started losing what little faith I have left in humanity. I'm really starting to think that people are just waiting to find something to be offended at. It's a tie, just like a suit is a suit. It's a piece of clothing. When you normally think of a tie, you think of a person in power, like a lawyer or a C.E.O. or something along those lines. It doesn't exactly scream 'male chauvinist pig.' Women wear ties too! It's nothing gender exclusive. What are your thoughts S.D.?

It's Florida, so I'm not surprised. They have the craziest news stories there.

No, a tie is no more sexist than a pair of pants. Anyone who says otherwise is either insane or looking for an argument.

The "tie", while implying professionalism and a witty logo design, yes, suggests dudes in the workplace.

Not a smart move, tbh, but I can see why they picked the design.

Oh for the love of god. Maybe we should strangle these whiny babies with ties. Women can wear ties too, it's an article of clothing. Infact I do find many women who wear ties quite attractive.

Personally this is nonsense, it is just a piece of clothing, women wear them too from time to time, but I find this article offensive since it screams out it's own opinion and not giving a neutral response. I find it embarrassing how some of these writers still pull off an article like this, as if they have nothing better to write.

Saying the logo is sexist is a little farfetched, but I can see why they feel that way.

Fuck the critics. If I had any interest in this, I would be more concerned about the fact that they not only invited Rick Scott, but posed for pictures with him, willingly. Replacing a vowel with a piece of clothing is nothing compared to being associated with someone who is responsible for policies that cause unnecessary deaths.

No matter what you do, somebody somewhere is going to be offended by the most mundane thing you do. If you're offended by a tie which is a symbol of business professionalism then you're hypersensitive to being offended. It's instances like these where we can pick out the nut jobs from the sane people. If you're offended by a tie, then that's a personal problem that you need to fix.

My Opinion:
I have no comment for the stupidity in the news now. It's just like people before me said (got to lazy to read atm), it's a piece of freaking clothing!! You can't wear this tie because it's for men only. Um ok well is there some gender machine in stores that prohibits a male from dressing like a girl and vice versa? NO...at least to my knowledge. Like I said...stupid. Just people trying to get a kick out of retardedness.

Are Femminist really that desperate for issues for women inequality that they make an issue out of this. What I find interesting is that they try to make it sound like women can't wear any men's clothing under a social acceptance, and in fact they actually can. I rarely see any issue for a woman wearing a suit, you will get a bias sure, but nothing compared to a man wearing a dress.

You seem under the impression that there is some organized Legion of Feminist Heroes that meets to discuss what to make issue out of every week.

One person picked at the idea under the guise of sexism. It is, in some ways, sure. But it's clearly not making international headlines for the very reason that it is NOT universally offending people. It's a small group who think it's wrong, not "omg all feminists must think this".

Sexism is an idea, it's a form of mannerism. An object can not be sexist because an object has no concious thought. A tie isn't going to look a woman in the face and say "you're not smart because mostly men wear me".

Many school uniforms both male and female have ties included with them. There's nothing sexist found there since BOTH genders wear it.

If a piece of clothing is called sexist, what is next? Where is the line drawn? I can't wear clothing now without being labeled sexist, so if I'm naked now I'm considered sexist? Actually probably because I'd be seen as a pervert. Might as well just label me sexist because I'm a man. Sorry for being born a man.

I think the point he was trying to make was that a tie is a gender neutral peice of clothing. Like I said before, when I think of a tie, I don't think of a certain gender (unless I just got finished watching How I met Your Mother, then I think of Neil Patrick Harris), I think of it like formal wear.

I like the example of thinking of Neil Patrick Harris, because there is a gay man who plays the biggest womanizing player ever. That is true brilliance.
