Just wondering, what exactly is serious about this topic? It just seems like people bitching about dubs.
If we want to really talk about how there is little to no anime on American TV now, then let's first talk about what there is:
Adult Swim still shows anime, but it's only on Saturday, and half of it is stuff that's already been shown a thousand times. Nonetheless, they do show Bleach, they started Moribito again, and they finished Code Geass recently. Still, it's one night of the week.
The Sci-Fi Channel shows anime, but it's only two shows currently - Gurren Lagann and Rave Master. They also only come on one day a week, Monday.
IFC shows anime, but it's only one, maybe two, episodes a week.
Cartoon Network shows some anime, but it's not high-quality stuff. Pokemon, Bakugan, and YuGiOh 5D's are all I see, and they're geared towards younger viewers, obviously.
Is there a lot of good anime on TV? No. Why? Probably because it doesn't draw in a lot of money. Same reason CN shows three hours of Total Drama Island and 6teen everyday instead of something good. Is there anything we can do? Probably not, because most people don't like dubs (even if it isn't censored) and don't care about watching it on TV. Is this a sign that the anime industry in America is doomed? No, because people still buy DVDs. As long as people continue to buy DVDs and merchandise, anime will keep coming to America.
Unfortunately they've really cocked-up the Anime Network in the United States when Comcast decided to do away with the 24/7 Linear service. Now it's only VOD and only a few, generally smaller cable providers even offer it in the United States (with the exception of Time Warner Cable, but I hear it is only in select locations at that.)
Anime in on TV in the us has never been a real success at least to my eyes. they just aren't commercially good enough. the anime they choose isn't like gurren its
anime like inuyasha and stuff. boring to some.
not to others.
That's always been my problem. I primarily watch romantic comedies and some harems, which definitely wouldn't show face on U.S. based anime stations. Other than that I can sometimes manage to see some psychological thrillers that I like.
Hey wait, WHAT THE HELL?! Is that real?!? I don't have a way of knowing since I only watch subbed, but is that really what they do?? O.o I can't believe that is real. I had heard that they completely cut all the naruto scenes where blood was shown, and some other stuff. But this.... Is just too bad... Is it for real? Ó.ò
What episodes of One Peice I watched on 4Kids where they had guns is a definite yes. That bullshit you saw is true.

Granted were probably gonna have to kill the entire 4kids staff before we get anything decent lol(please dont sue me).
Sue you? I'll join you. Pretty sure everyone who has posted in this thread would like to as well.
I sure it hope it dies out here in holland! :|
Because all we get it is shotanime! Like pokemon, yu-gi-oh and other crap that has been transmitted over 9000 times!
Subs suck too. I love how people love to hate on dubs (and there are a lot of good ones out there) but they never complain about the horrid quality of most subs. I rather watch the show on Japanese and not understand anything that subject myself to that kind of punishment.
Neither of them are perfect. The biggest thing I hate about anime fans is the elitism.
I agree. I think The stupid American censors are ruining what anime is about. Anime is supposed to be able to show all the gore, violence, and nudity that's unacceptable in real time television. That's actually why they had that awesome anime scene in Kill Bill volume 1.
But less and less anime is coming into America. most people would rather watch episodes on youtube to get the original Japanese content than listen to the poorly subbed American voices.

Thanks 4kids. go fuck yourselves. -_-;
Amen to that aspect.
I'll never understand it either. The U.S. allows more gore and violence in their movies than just about every other country. Like Europe, Europe censors violence more heavily than the U.S. does, but by the same token Europe takes a slightly more tolerant approach towards nudity than the U.S. XD

You want uncensored anime? Drive to any Best Buy, go to the DVD section, grab any title that grabs your attention, pay 20 bucks and pop that newly bought DVD into your player. Follow the on-screen instructions and enjoy.
Seriously, 4Kids is not the only company that translates anime in North America. Lots of anime is coming to America. You people just need to get out more.
People only go to Youtube because they're cheap as hell.

I hate to be the "mother" but having uncensored anime would create a false gateway for children wanting to watch it.
It's not about "KWAIIIANIME I LOVE ANIME" anymore. I doubt you'd let your kids watch a uncensored, uncut DVD of Ninja Scroll or Fist of the Northstar. Sure, 4Kids raped any and all part of the anime they hosted in their screen time but Toonami did the same thing when they aired: Zoids, Sailor Moon, Outlaw Star, Blue Sub. No. 6, Dragonball Z, etc. It wasn't because Toonami/Cartoon Network was "ruining what anime is about". They actually show some scenes that would've been cut during day showtimes but did craptastic or invisi-censoring. Hell, they even did it for Shin-chan during Adult Swim. I disagree totally with your post and think that you're posting it because you think America doesn't want to host Japanese shows for what they are. The morals of America are slightly different from Asian countries. Television content is the same.
Now, to answer the OP:
I think that some anime has gotten more explicit and more fanservice-y. That or some anime is too "intelligent" for younger age groups. As I said before, American TV and Japanese TV have different morals about what to show and what not to show on TV.

That should ultimately be up to the parents. It shouldn't be the responsibility of the license holders to tone down the violence and nudity in anime. If you are an irresponsible parent who buys it even though you don't want your child to see it you have no right to complain.

Funny to mention that guy's video and use the word "elitism." The guy who made that "documentary" has the biggest stick up his ass I've ever seen, and a lot of his complains don't even make sense. He's just bitching for the sake of bitching. But that's not really relevant to this conversation.
To the people complaining about violence being edited out of anime on TV - ever watch an R-rated movie on TV? Notice how the words "fuck" and "shit" are never said? Same sort of thing. The FCC requires that certain stuff be cut out, especially on a channel aimed towards children or a program aired during the day, when children can easily view it. When Funimation took over One Piece and the episodes were aired on Cartoon Network, Sanji's cigarette still had to be edited out, because they didn't want kids to see Sanji smoking and imitate him. Is that stupid? Perhaps, but Marvel no longer allows its characters to smoke in comic books for the same reason. It may be stupid, but that's the way it is, and we have to accept that.
But really, think about this: If Cartoon Network never shows anime again, it's not going to be because of violence or colorful language. It's going to be because anime doesn't rake in the money it used to. That's the way the world works. Zatch Bell, Prince of Tennis, and Naruto weren't pulled off of Toonami because people complained about the shows - they were pulled because they didn't get enough viewers.

Oh my god! That video is the biggest piece of bullshit I've ever heard. As this is why I hate to whatch anime on tv:
1) they are dubbed and it doesn't feel natural;
2) absurd localization. And this really is what kills the thing.
When I watch an anime movie and then like it so much that I wanna buy it, I always get disappointed afterwords cause of the subs... It's ridiculous why people do things like this. It's beyong my understanding.
The main reasons anime is dying on television in the US is because, as others have said, the voice acting in dubs is not as good, and they tend to dumb down and censor it too much. By dumbing down and censoring them, they remove a lot of the drama that makes some anime so emotional. That emotion is what gets a lot of people attached to certain characters. On top of that, they are even censoring anime that is directed at children; Like the episode where James has breasts in Pokemon was banned in the US.

So you'd allow the uncut uncensored version of Ninja Scroll or Fist of the North Star on television spots such as Toonami?
