I think you're mostly right there but you didn't consider where your getting that information. You're most likely getting that from tv shows and specials on sci-fi right? well, it's true that it's very likely there are intelligent life forms that are as bad or worse off then us but there's also the equal chance that there are life forms much more advanced than us that just haven't happened upon us yet. the universe is a big place after all. then we also have to consider the state the planets are in, near extinction can compel an entire race to look into space travel ("the little green book", I think is what it was called, was a good example of this.) i know that's kind of confusing and all over the place but does anyone get what i'm saying?

I honestly do not think that the government "covers up" alien landings. Who is going to prove that life somewhere else exists? It might exist, but then again there is a chance that it just might not. Now bear in mind that the conditions in which carbon-based lifeforms can live is extremely specific compared to other planets. If the earth was to orbit much closer to the sun, it would be too hot. If earth was to orbit slightly further away, the conditions would be too cold. We should consider ourselves lucky that things happened the way they did. Now the possibility might exist that life exists based on other materials that we have not discovered yet.
To say that life definitely exists on another planet is kind of an overstatement. It might, be we don't have much proof and I don't think we ever will (or at least for a very long time).

Yeah I read about 2nd earth a few months ago in the newspaper

I am a whale that ready to leave earth. If u ask me why i leave earth, because the earth big ocean become very salty and bitter. But before i leave i want to see why earth can become like this. The day had come the letter from far planet neptune. They hope that i can migrate there, they say that at the planet neptune, did not have ocean, that salty and bitter. Then i begin to think my life at planet neptune, I can swim happily everyday, but is there any kind of whale like me at planet neptune. so i must find the reason why the earth big ocean became salty and bitter. There had left only one day before i migrate to planet neptune. But still i don`t understand why the earth had such changes. hmm, i'm actually learning about this in my science and religion class. the deal is, the universe is huge, but not infinite. To give you a picture of how big it is, there are 100 billion galaxies, each with 100 billion stars. Of course, when looking at the probability of all the 100 or so factors for life occurring at the same time, it is incredibly small. However, when comparing these two numbers, the immensely large universe to the incredibly small probability, you greatly increase the chances of life on a planet. Of course, all we know is that earth is the only planet with life (EVERY single characteristic of earth and its position in the universe is important to the existence of life). i believe that there is life somewhere out there, but the universe is too huge for the human mind too come close to comprehending. So we often limit our scope of the universe and therefore limit the probability in our mind. Fortunately, math fixes that problem

The universe has to be infinite. I'm not saying infinite matter or galaxies but space is continuous. Finding life on another planet is also going to be difficult because the universe is expanding at such a fast rate that by the time we have the technology other galaxies will be long gone.

And one more thing, our Earth is only capable of seeing things about a billion light years (not sure about this number) away because well...light beyond that distance hasn't reached us yet, why? Light is very slow compared to the big bang's explosion. Ok...so the universe is very very big and that the probability of a similar situation like Earth's has a probability of like 99.99% or something. So not until we are able to intersteller travel or have probes that are able to reach the distance for a close up picture, we won't know...actually we won't know, not even our children's grand children would know, maybe in a few centuries or millennium until humans find out. So the word is believe, because you really can't prove or disprove the existence of extraterrestrial lifeforms. [/h]

Just think of this mathematically, with the trillions of stars, and galaxies, solar systems etc, even with the small probability of sentient life (we'll say .00024% or whatever number you want)With the uncountable number of other planets, there has to be some other species that exists similar to us. It'd be damn near impossible for it not to happen somewhere else as it did here.

On the equations' latter half, definitely. There really isn't enough data, so he's just making assumptions based on averages(?), but at least is nice to see what the odds would be like.

That would make sense. It's kind of like running on a treadmill as the treadmill gets longer. I'm not sure if that's a bad analogy....

I think there is life in other planets, but in a galaxy far far away xD. But something that really disturbs me is that we assume there are more intelligent than us, that they find us, why we cannot find them? Why this complex of inferiority?
