That being said, what fuels the supplies to build the churches? What laid down the foundations in order to run telethon's and broadcast services on television?.
Money. Not just the element, but as well as the two main points: Spending and, the more importantly focused on, Gaining.
Also as with what a few members have said earlier, the corruption of people and their insecurities should be held to blame as well.
I apologize for the vague response, I'm not 100% sure on how to word this
There are also things like food which preaching can't buy.
Mr.TifaLockhart wrote...
Money can't buy happiness.I'll go with my lord and savior Jesus Christ.
I agree that to a certain degree money won't buy you happiness but it'll put a roof over your head, food in your belly and a warm bed to sleep in. Life is what you make of it and money is just a tool to help you along (sometimes making it easier).
I think that both boil down to a level of faith. That each will bring something into our lives that is currently lacking. Whether it is materialistic possesions or some divine experience it is the faith with which people place in this that leads to ruin or influences lives. Honestly I would say it isn't so much the money or god that is the problem but the emotional ties humans have. Greed, arrogance, jealousy...these are truly what gives power to god and/or money.
Who said both can't be related? Catholic Church did a pretty good job of you paying for security of your "immortal soul at the hands of God". How do you think Vatican was funded in the first place, eh?
On topic though, I'd say that money marginally wins. Religion can motivate people to all manner of acts, from ethnic cleansing and terrorism to charity and self-sacrifice; But money is ultimately needed to get things moving. Poverty is also a very big scare (traditionally, at least) in many parts of the world, and we all know that fear is an exceptional tool of motivation.
And, like Mr. Shaggnificent said, there are other things that matter to people just as much. Egoism, ambition, psychological issues and aforementioned fear are just among the few.
God, mostly because people invented God before they invented money. Also money is a physical thing that you know if you have it or not, God is an idea, not something that can be destroyed to touched.
Lights, camera, silence on the set
Tape rolling, 3, 2, 1, action
Welcome to the Church of Suicidal
We'll have a sermon and a wonderful recital
But before we go on there's something I must mention
An important message I must bring to your attention
I was in meditation and prayer last night
I was awakened by a shining bright light
Overhead a glorious spirit
He gave me a message and you all need to hear it
"Send me your money," that's what he said
He said to "Send me your money"
Now if you can only send a dollar or two
There ain't a hell of a lot I can do for you
But if you want to see heaven's door
Make out a check for five hundred or more
"Send me your money"
Do you hear what I said?
"Send me your money"
Now give me some bass, umm, yeah, that's how he likes it
Now give me some silence, for all you sinners
Now give me some bass, yea that was funky
Now take them on home Brother Clark, send me your money
Here comes another con hiding behind a collar
His only god is the almighty dollar
He ain't no prophet, he ain't healer
He's just a two bit goddamn money stealer
Send me your money
Send it, you got to send it
Send me your money
You hear what I'm saying?
"Send it, send it
Send me your money"
How much you give is your own choice
But to me it is the difference between a Porsche and a Rolls Royce
I want you to make it hurt when you dig into your pocket
'Cause it makes me feel so good to watch my profits rocket
Send me your money
Now dig in deep, dig real deep into your pocket
I want you to make it hurt, we'll take cash, we'll take checks
We'll take credit cards, we'll take jewelry
We'll take your momma's dentures if they got gold in them
So whose gonna be the next king of the fakers
Whose gonna take the place of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker?
See my momma, she didn't raise no fool
'Cause you can't put a price on a miracle
Amen
I would have to say money. No matter what, everyone needs money nowadays just to get by. Even the church needs money in order to spread their word. After all, most men don't build a church for the lord's praise, they do it because most of the time, their getting paid. What will help a person more, a prayer for them, or money that can buy them food, shelter, or clothes to keep them warm?
I'm not trying to be so religious at all, but I lean my back to God instead of money. In the other hand, Money is neither good nor bad (I would like to think it as merely a medium of exchange). The misuse and abuse of money that lead us to a problems.
God. God has started peace, it has started war. God can motivate people and rally them to create a powerful force. Because God is the manifestation of all beliefs while money is just a belief god is all of them and beliefs change the world.
Which has had more of an impact . . . well, money is something everybody needs, but not everybody needs God. On the other hand, I'd be hard-pressed to find something like the Crusades where people fought for money instead of religion. Still, a lot of conflict comes out of desire for power, and that can be tied in with money, people wanting power so they can be rich and whatnot.
I think I'll go with money. It's a physical thing, and it's easier for people to fight over, be it in a war or in life in general.
Very good question in deed, a god-like figure affects many, even the people that don't believe, but many affects just as many people. I'd say money mainly because of the fact that it runs the world!!
Religion has been the cause of war before people started using salt as money. Religion is still the reason why people are dying in the middle eastern area. People have killed millions in the name of Jesus Christ, David, and Muhammad.
Religion is our basis for morality, while money is our basis for currency.
If the world had money but no religion, it wouldn't have moral standards. There would be constant thievery, violence and war, resulting in poverty and death. The world cannot exist peacefully without some form of universal moral standards, which can only come from religon
if the world had religion but no money, it wouldn't have a form of currency. people would have to trade items or services in return for items or services. It wouldn't be very efficient, they would still have moral values. there would be annoying, yet peaceful exchanges.
This world has both money and religion, so the above scenarios don't apply (yet). I think that the absence of religion would have a more catastrophic affect on the world, which is why I think religion is more important
It's not just money, but currency itself. We use it as a bases for trade. If you hand me a yen, I'll just look at you with a what the fuck am I gonna do with this look on my face. The point of money is that we use it to trade and exchange for objects, like the same as food stamps, which are basicly the same exact thing.
People keep saying that religion have been keeping people's morals up, and keep them in check. I'm sorry to break it to you, but people have been shattering that for quite some time. People often say to hell with it, and will kill someone if it's the norm (Harlem Renesonce)and just think that their god will forgive them later.
In todays society, people kill others not from desperation with religion, but with desperation with money. Our financial issues depect if we could live our life, and comfortably enjoy religion.
Without money, like a couple saying 'when the end comes' People aren't gonna come for god as another source of power, but will look for another center of trade, like water if it become scarce, and batteries and food, so we can survive.
I guess, in the end, you can just cut it down to the fact that you can't survive without money, but you can survive without religion.
Thus, money is the essential, like we would kill for food
