I admit to making one really stupid topic, but the other ones I make get tons of posts in them. So is it wrong for me to be an elite?

When it comes to forums the more people you get posting the more intelligent, and not so intelligent, posts are you going to get. I have been trying very hard to read every post the past few weeks and I feel that most of the pointless and off topic topics stay in Random / Incoherent, which is where they belong. I'll admit it is confusing having two random categories.. but I like them both.

I want new users to feel that they can join the community right away without any barriers. I admit most new users don't take the time to make well thought out posts, but it's definitely getting better.

I imagine a lot of the problems stemmed from myself and Raze (being the only moderators) having very little time to moderate. But we have some moderators now so things will definitely get better.

Honestly the best way to combat bad posts is to make good ones. That goes to everyone reading this thread, just make really really good posts. People will see them and respond with good posts, that's how easy it is.

You have gotten a lot better since you first started posting. I feel that a lot of what you say is just misunderstood due to the language barrier. But you have definitely made some really really bad posts since you first joined. But please continue to make more mature posts and follow the rules.

And a lot of your suggestions are good and I just wish I had more time / motivation to get them all done. I appreciate your input.

You're right. The best way to combat people obtaining the user ranks quickly would be to add other factors to it like you said. Most of the ranks were created back when the forums only had 5 - 10 active users, we have since grown substantially.

I can't remember what led to you getting -31 rep, but I have seen that the posts you have been making the past couple of weeks have been good, so thanks for sticking around and making them.

Long story short, for those of you who think the forums are heading downhill it is up to you to pull them back up. If I could somehow enforce that every post is well thought out, coherent, and follows the rules I would. But a lot of it is up to the users to make good posts :D

You're not the only one worried actually. A lot of people have voiced their concern about the current state of the forums, and I did address this topic in a news post a few days ago:

Again, what Jacob said. While I do (and am hoping to) push for a more moderated forum, I also want users to feel comfortable when making posts. If Gambler's current status is any indication, we absolutely love people who make intelligent, logical, and contributive posts. Heck, it's one of the reason I was asked to be an admin in the first place. XD

Well, if this helps at all when making your posts, just imagine what it would be like for others to read what you wrote before you post it. If it looks dumb or provokes others for no reason, probably not a good idea to post. Not that I'm discouraging divergent opinions, but if you're going to make one, it's probably a good idea to back it up.

Oh, this reminds me. One of the other forums I moderate for has a limit as to how many posts you can make a day. This might be a solution, since people can no longer rise to elite status in two days, and the limit might actually encourage more well thought-out posts, as well as deter double posters and encourage the use of the edit button.

I don't think there's any magic solution to the problem. Just deputize some good moderators and hope for the best. Unless you want to start limiting the number of posts people are allowed to make per day =), base it on senority and reputation or something.

My two cents:

I really, really think that post count should determine nothing. People who joined in the early part of 07, and the reserved group from late 07, seem to have post counts below 400.

Honestly, I think that rank should be given out using either the Rep system, or awarded by moderators and admins to users who actually contribute to the whole of the forum.

Oh, and sorry, but I'm a little sick from the fourth, so I didn't read most of the topic.

Rep system shouldn't do much, imho, and as much as I'd love to force the last idea into actuality, it would rely on the admins and mods being on a lot. Wouldn't you hate a user who just spammed a lot be given a title? Wouldn't you feel like some injustice had been dealt? That would be all the admins would have to go on, postcounts and the most recent posts.

I think we need to stop bitching about the forums, actually. I've been at it for months on end, and I've just about stopped. They are how they are. There will be ups and downs. If you think that the forums are sucking balls, you have two choices. Leave the community you love so much [probably not going to happen] or tough though it. I've always been happy to pin it all down to MoteMote! because before then, it was clean. Having a scapegoat made it easier for me. But taking on the second option means you'll just have to keep going. It'll wear off onto members around you. If you ignore people you don't like [unless you have a normal reason to talk to them, and you aren't going to troll] and talk to members you do, it'll lessen the strain on the moderator and slowly your trolls will get bored and walk out. Threads like this they thrive on, knowing that the war is being won. They don't even have to post, they can just chuckle smugly.

I think it just hit me more because i'm catching up on a week and a half of posts and reading like a madman. it hits harder to home when you're reading the fakku novel from last week. sorry if i made anyone angry.

Damnit, I really hate to show up to a rant-fest like this so late (you know you're late when Jacob AND Raze have posted before you). I can't say whether or not I've been a positive or negative influence on things here as what I seem to do is just post in response to things. So if something really stupid is being said I try to do my part and also be stupid, if something intelligent is being said I try to do my best to contribute something (and honestly I don't really feel bad for saying stupid things sometimes, we all need some fun). I can understand the levels of crazy this place seems to go if you disappear for a while though. And I wouldn't worry about turning into a Hibia unless you grow a penis and start talking about computer stuff I don't understand (oh and being the unofficial god of IRC).

whats wrong with quality and quantity? i would like to think ive earned my title as a fakku elite in the limited amount of time ive been here. i havent posted for the sake of posting and although i might not exactly be an instrumental piece to the forums and community i think that it wouldnt be the same without me, just as it wouldnt be the same without anyone else. i know exactly what your trying to say... but you have been gone a while rukia. sorry if you dont agree with our recently endowed classifications, but untill we get bored and move on i guess youll have to deal with it >_< my condolences.

Come to think of it, sometimes I post stupid replies that consists only a small amount of words... like, yeah I agree, no I don't, and so forth without giving details...
even so, it doesn't help adding my post count... and more often than not it was done in the 'incoherent babbling' section... and that section doesn't count posts, yes?

I'll admit i have made some useless topic. Like when i got my tv and the website is down thing. But yet again, i posted it in the Random section which should be okay like Jacob stated. And it was an attempt to throw myself into a conversation ( since, even though i feel like I'm doing a good intelligent post, i never seem to get replies or get a conversation with someone in an other topic) I've lurked the forums ever since i joined, but i do have a hard time joining in the topic, why my low post count. I've recently started posting more frequently, the last Forum family I've been with is with the infamous ClockCrew back in 97 to 01, it was alot of fun and i felt like trying to join one once again.


Has in forum progression, when i was in CC ( Clockcrew ) i was one of the first 100 active members. Our rank went up to the thousands members, posting every day.For the first Fakku members,the site in my opinion has changed alot from the 10 active forumer to now the 50 to 70ish, but it has not yet fallen into a desperate cause. But its a road that forums always take, and they all fall down sometimes but will rise up better. CC has fallen 3 times, and every time someone els took control, started a new site and everything with the help of loyal members. But it shows that only the true loyal members, who truly love the family will continue to follow.

Now,I'm not saying this site must fall so we can rise up stronger,its just most of us have experienced the forums on other site, so we have the experience to know whats good and whats bad. What to avoid to make these forums immune to what brought so many communities down. Its our responsibility to show the new people, how to behave and put a limit. The titles are nearly useless, the rep is fun but not something we really taken seriously. But lets keep things that way, maybe once the rep / titles are more controlled, you guys can awards special hentai for the rank/rep archived. But with how things currently works, like reaching Elite status, people will just spam the forums to achieve it. Which wont help our cause we are currently discussing.

With now 5 admin / mods controlling the site, things seem to be a little bit cleaner, but has our members grow, more control will be needed, that can't be avoided.

anyway, brains dead of idea. Sorry for my bad English :P

we all had our mistakes here and there, after all, no one's perfect, but i believe if we all work together and think before we type, fakku will be improved and better than ever.
