[Locked] What is Religion and the Holy Books Really?

Following your logic , anything that can cause death or an accident is bad ? Then living is bad since anything can kill you .

You remember when you were talking that you sacrifice some freedom for your religion because you also gain benefits from it ? Well it's the same thing abouth drugs and alcohol , yes it arms your body but you also gain benefits from it . This is where it becomes an opinion , are the arms to your body worth the benefits gained from it ?

It's your decision after all , I'm with you in that
but the religion told you not to do it
why ? because you're not allow to harm your body
I mean the religion wants the best for you

one of the things that we believe that we are going to be asked about our health , brain , money , youth and many other things
simple as that
think of this example
a man went to buy a Packet of cigarettes
first of all he wasted some money that he can use for some good reason .
seondly he wasted his health , his life for a smoke .
and the most important thing that he will regret the thing that he did sooner or later in this life or in the after life

another example
you found a hot girl that you can rape and do everything you wish to her and no one will found out and the girl - although she is forced - won't tell anyone because she is afraid of you - did you but yourself in the picture - what will you do ??

for me my first thought will be doing it , but then my religion will make me re-think with my self about doing it or not , I mean my religion tell me that I can escape from punishment in this life but I won't escape the punishment in the other life , my religion will make me think about other humans , I will think of what this girl will suffer which will make me not doing it .

you can offer millions of dollars on people - who have strong faith - in order to do bad thing , but they won't do it , why ? because of their religion

we always hear about morals in comic books , they make us respect and wish to be like these heroes , your religion tells you that you can be like that , and draw some circle telling you not to cross the borders , if you cross it then you can come back to the circle again - the circle won't go away - if you didn't then you will regret these things you've done before you're even dead , telling yourself that you didn't become the man you want to , blaming society , family , religion , god and every one you know , and even if you didn't achieve your dreams then you have done your best and die with a big smile on your face - my grand pa did that and when he died he was smiling , although it was a difficult situation i smiled too and so my father and my uncles , which made me think about what I want to do a lot more , I want people to remember me as a good person and even if they didn't at least I know I am .

religion tells you what you want to do , in fact he tells more things that you don't know , it might seem like a border but for me it what I want to do
for me I'm not smoking , because I don't want to be weak
I'm going to marry the girl I love , and treat her nice for the rest of my life
I'm going to protect my family , country , friends with my soul .
I'm not drinking , cause i might harm other people I love when I'm drunk
I'm not going to addict on drugs , harm people , steal , rape , kill , destroy any thing ,these was my first decisions long time ago , when I was a little kid , before i understand religion , before I understand this cruel life , I'm going to do what I really want , what really make me happy all my life , I'm not going to obey these simple pleasures that lasts for seconds , I want to feel that I was useful

I mean every kid have his dreams , every kid have innocent dreams , kids don't think about doing bad things when they get older , they dream about a lot of good things , but when they grow up the lose their dreams , why ?? because they discover that life is cruel and contain a lot of evil , religion show us the right way to keep climbing the stairs of life and achieve what you want.

I explained my point of view , I obey my religion because it always helped me ,didn't lie to me , show me how I want to live my life , simple as that .

You would probably say I don't have a religion(Christianity). But more or less I have something a lot better I have a knowledge or an understanding of a god and wisdom taking this knowledge and applying it to my decisions , this is what you may better know as a faith. Beliefs have nothing to do with what I am about do you Feel me.

Spiritually I Don't KNOW ANYTHING. I just know this, We all dream right? do we still dream when we die? I DONT KNOW. but that doesn't bother me cuz im not dead yet. we will all find out one day or one day we wont find out? You get it thats me dude and im proud of that.

There are several reasons from my religion why God Himself was not the who spread the religion.

First of all, He is a completely different from us humans, you cannot put a Human characteristic towards Him. If we were in level 1, He would be 10,000 level above us.
Because of that, He needs someone that can preach the religion towards all the humans around the world. That's why, you heard of Moses, Jesus or Muhammad SAW. These people (according to my holy book) is the Messenger God created to preach the religion. First, comes Moses with the Jews, then Jesus with Christian, and Muhammad SAW with Islam. I am not going further about the history of religion, because I am here on the site to have fun, not to teach.

Anyway, here comes the problem. If random guy starts teaching you about new religion that you never heard of when you have a mother religion or when you are an atheist, of course you would be like "What the fuck are you on about? I don't believe you, where is the proof?". That is precisely why these men were given special powers. Moses, who can turn stick into snakes, or Jesus, who can make the blind see for the first time. Sounds like a sorcery, but these are necessary for people at that time to believe that they are a Messenger of God.

God did not only sent One messenger. God sent several messenger to preach several different ethnics at several different time period.

According to my Holy book, if God were to preach the religion towards a mountain, the mountain would shatter into 1000 pieces because of its radiance and power. He is too powerful for human to handle.

My God wants me to live life that can benefit me in this life and after life.
Of course, there are risks of death wherever I am. Even when I'm laying down on the top of my bed.

For me, this life is a mere test. Real life comes after death, where God will decide whether I go to Heaven or Hell. Now, if I do these stuff that are forbidden by my God, of course I'd be punished. If it was you, would you still consume stuff that is already bad for you, and later on you'll be punished for that as well?

For me, nope, the benefits is not worth the harm it does on my body.

Ummm there is one problem with your theory, actually there's a couple. You refer God as Him which is a character for male. God's messengers were humans with nothing anything really special but yet he spoke to them. If he could speak to them then why couldn't he speak to me or to everybody else? You also implying God isn't omnipotent when you say that God can't speak to humans. I mean if he really wanted to he could make his understandable by humans or any other living beings. One last thing, if God send all these messengers then why his messengers weren't really commutative with one another. I mean if they were commutative their message would be alot more effective and not differ so much. Well I just saying.

As far as I know, Muslims believe the Qur'an was verbally dictated to the Prophet Muhammad by God through the Archangel Gabriel. As such, they're one of the only (if not the only) religions to state that their Holy Book was not created by man, but taken verbatim from God. They consider themselves the one true religion because they believe, unlike many other religions of the modern age, that the words in the Qur'an are the actual words of their God, relayed by his final prophet.

Back to my main point, whether or not you personally believe that the Qur'an is the literal word of God is up to you (after all, the possibility does exist that Muhammad scammed them big time), but it probably throws a wrench in your theory/idea. Any man that practices Islam and knows his shtick would probably find your notion laughable because his religion simply doesn't acknowledge the slightest possibility of it (meaning a man wrote their holy book and tried to control their minds and behavior) being true.

I personally don't care either way 'cause I just believe whatever I feel like believing (which at times may be in a deity that takes the form of a giant purple manatee named Avagantamos that slaps the world with its flippers to make it spin), but I felt that, knowing what I know from being forced to go to several Catholic educational institutions throughout my life, I should part some of the knowledge.

PS: If you do reply don't hold your breath expecting anything else meaningful out of me, since I literally just wasted more time writing this response than I would have liked. That is time that could have been used more productively. Like watching grass grow. Or eating ants off a sidewalk. Pretty much anything is more productive than a religious exposition.

We refer Gods as Him, I believe because male are more superior than female (citation are seriously needed to back this up, but that is what I have been told by my teacher). And, as I said, these prophets came from different time period and live in different areas.

And I am not answering the rest of your question, I'll be honest, I don't have the answer, since I have not much experience dealing with people like you, and I am here in Fakku to have fun, not to preach my religion to other people. If you really wanna know, go to a local mosque and ask questions there.

O.K , now you're going to enter the world of arabic Grammars , in Arabic language we treat the names that we can't determinate the gender of their owner like we treat the male names , except the city names , country names , ethnicity names , and some other names that we treat them like we treat female names , we don't use "it" at all to refer to any thing , everything name is either a male name or a female name

so god is not " him " , it's the language who treated his name like a male name

it's very complicated grammar system ,if you want to understand more I will describe it for you , but I'm afraid that you won't understand .

and because arabic language is the language that quran was written with , then when quran is translated they translate the name of the god as a male name , and treat his name as a male name in other languages .

and one more thing , god is testing you , so he gave you signs , a brain and a freewill to use , and told you to do simple things , asking you to choose the right way , giving you all the things you need in your life from food , power , protection , and designed a very big complicated systems in order to make this life go on to the end , that he put , so he used religion in order to inform you about his existence , he also used religion to inform you about the way you should live your life , describing what will harm and what won't , he used prophets in order to carry and explain these messages , and why did he chose a group of people ??
because these people have to explain these messages using different methods , and if god show himself to you , are you going to believe ?? and if believed - and you're going to - then what the main purpose of this life ?? or this test ???




god can and will speak to human , when this life ends he's going to show himself to you , but like I said if he did that now then what is the point of this life ??

you can't because human changed it over time and these messages wasn't complete , also god told people over the time to believe in him and do good things , that was the main point now and then .

I totally get what you're saying. And yea, often times in SD I just like to give my two cents and then dart. I've learned from experience that getting into an argument about anything here is like playing tug of war with a wall. You don't go anywhere, and the wall afterwards is usually as stubborn and as stupid as it was before. This can also apply to some of the other forums here, as I've recently learned.

However, lurking and reading through a lot of these diatribes (especially the political ones) is a great source of entertainment.

Wow you are really defensive. However there are few things that are strange with your explanations. For one I don't hear any voices in my head at all, and I meditate for like 10 hours a week in total silent darkness. Also, how could someone who is deaf at birth can hear these voices? If we do hear voices in our head then that kinda defeats the whole purpose of religion, in your view anyways.

Another thing, God suppose, well at least based on my understanding of the Abraham God and religions, be unisex or something along those lines. If that were the case then why don't people address him as the Holy Mother or She or other feminine characters? I mean if he is only address as the Holy Father and other male characters than that will kinda make the claim that all humans were made in his image seem false since you have males and females but the male characters are the only ones being use.

One last thing, you can't really prove that your religion is actually the will of God and not the will of men nor can you actually disprove my claim that religion is the work entirely of men. When say prove I mean perform some form of test, under different situations and factors, and get some results. Also, you might want to check the foundations of your religion before you want to defend it.
