Even if I do live here, I think it's kind of lame too. At the very least, our government needs to get its priorities straight.

Here's the take from someone who grew up in the area of D.C., capital of the U.S.

Americans are legalistic - we are very proud of our constitution, our rights, our system of courts, and we guard them fiercely. We are known for our lawsuits, as well as American football, probably one of the most legalistic sports in existence.

Americans are religious - at least compared to Europe. Not everyone is a bible thumping fundamentalist, but there are some, and overall, most people believe in God.

Americans are individualistic and comsumeristic - Americans generally don't want a collective welfare state, and prefer to have the freedom to own more things and make more money, but take the risk of being ruined by financial catastrophes. Even our so called "Socialist" liberals who want universal healthcare would be pretty conservative in a place life France or Sweden.

Americans are optimistic - Why does the U.S. interfere in the world and try to change things? Because we think we can make the world a better place. We also generally think that hard work pays off and so we try to work hard. I think a lot of this goes back to the two World Wars, in which very few hostile actions took place in the actual U.S., but Europe was ravaged twice. It led to more cynicism and atheism in Europe and served as a catalyst for philosophers like Sartre.

Being legalistic is not necessarily a good thing. We consider most of your lawsuits stupid wastes of time that common sense could solve.
Such as suing McDonald's, they ate it and got fat on their own and tried to blame McDonald's instead of themselves.

I think all the things I listed have both good and bad aspects. You list a bad aspect of being legalistic. A good aspect is that Americans have traditionally been very sensitive about restrictions of our rights, which I think helps curb government abuses.

Which many can easily abuse.
