Would you risk your life for a friend? A serious approach

Yes, I know this question has come up many times, but I want a more serious approach. Like, why would you or why would you not?

To me, it depends on the friend. Would he/she do this for you? I know a couple of people who would, but I know some 'friends' who wouldn't.

To explain further, as a few others said, I would risk my life for a stranger, as long as I know the type of person they are. I could misjudge, but everyone does it, right? You could meet a really nice person but they look a certain way so you think they act a certain way. Everyone says don't judge a book by it's cover, but you know you did it at least once.

The way I see it, in order to risk my life for anyone, I would have to believe that the value of their life was worth as much or more than my own. With that in mind, I might risk bodily harm to myself to protect someone, but I don't know anyone who is worth dying for.

I'd risk my life for a stranger. Note, risking life=/=sacrificing one's life. I'll gladly pull a stranger out of a fire if I could, but I won't take his place in front of a firing squad.

I have one friend who constantly picks fights. after the first few times of backing him up, i've started to see it as "he started it, he can finish it". i'll try to stop him, try to defuse, but if that fails, i just watch out for weapons, and start pulling them off once he's down. most times though, he was in the wrong to start it, so he kind of deserves what he gets.

there are other friends who i would risk harm for, and very few, my life.

I don't know, sometimes I even hesitate to dial 911 for people. I guess I'm the type that try not to get involved with anything dangerous.

This is something that I've actually spent a good amount of time thinking about. For most of the people I know the most I would risk is serious injury. However, for maybe six to ten people I would be willing to risk my life to save theirs. Would they do the same for me? Probably, but there's no way to be certain, but these are people who have a had significant and ongoing effect on my life. These are people that I currently can't imagine living without.

I would risk my life for a complete stranger, all depending on the person - or type of person I think they are. I could misjudge but that's only natural. Also it may sound bad, but psychologicly speaking, i'm not the only one. If there was some sort of benefit for me it would make it more... logical? This goes for most people too.

I have put my life on the line for strangers multiple times before I got out of Gangs and still will protect people. I have found some people I have helped have been extremely nice people, while others have been psychopaths that tried to hurt me and others! It all depends on how you value human life in my opinion!

Why does it matter what type of person they are?

Is the question if you would put your life or physical well beeing under certain risk to protect the life or physical well beeing of a friend? Or is it if you would lay down your life for a friends life? In the former case it depends on the risk itself and your risk aversion, in the latter case whether or not you have a friend that you consider more worth living than yourself. This covers all variations of answers you will get ITT.

I would most certainly risk my life for a friend. And I would gladly give my life for a friend. of course I see my life as completely worthless so It's not a big deal for me.

If every person took the time to weigh the cost of saving a friend, against the preservation of their own safety, then we would live in a world without heroes. I would rather be remembered as the person who died trying to save another, than as the person who ran to safety, regardless of whether the person is a 'friend' or not.

I most definitely risk my life for a friend, and a complete stranger. Even if I had no idea who they were, just the fact the I was able to help them may change a "bad" person around or if you do die in the process you may even have a reverse effect on the one you saved by making them re-evaluate their life.

What I mean by that is, say you save a life at the cost of yours, and that person begins to go over their life, they can either take it as a positive and be like, this person gave me a second chance and I am forever grateful for the world, or they can be this person saved my life...was it really worth saving, was my life worth the cost of another? (can go positive or negative in the direction they go). But that may be over thinking it.

But I would still risk my life for a friend and a stranger, because I would want others to do the same for me, or someone else. Everyone is loved by somebody, and you never know, what that person could have been in the future. Even if it is a terrible person, the actions of one's past can only influence the future, not write it for you.

I would most definitely risk my life for a friend, but for a total stranger, I'm like 70-30 save the person. In all seriousness, however, I feel that you're presented with this kind of question, you're obviously gonna go for the noble answer, but when the shit hits the fan and you have only nanoseconds to react, most of time, you're hauling ass to safety, caring only about yourself and the people closest to you.

Only a very scarce amount like maybe 2 or 3. I don't really know, but i guess it would depend on the situation.

When a subject like this comes up millions of situations rush through my head and my logic, morals, and emotions mix. I wonder if I would succeed saving them and also live or if I'd die saving them. Sometime I even think of what would happened if I failed to save them. Would I die for nothing? What will happen to my friend? Is this really how it's going to end? Endless questions rush through my head, but a main few stick out.

Do I have the courage to save my friend? Will I die? Do I really want to risk my life?

This subject just makes me think really deep. Well as I always say, I'm just thinking too much.

I would risk my life for any innocent person, friend, family, foe, or stranger.

Yes, you read that right. Even foe. Foe as in someone I simply don't like, or who may not like me much. Not an evil or destructive person, just someone I don't get along with.

I am assuming that in this situation, it is a person-in-the-street-oh-god-a-bus-is-coming-what-do-we-do kind of thing.

I would push the person out of the way, without hesitation, because inaction is simply not who I am.

I believe that each and every single life is equal in its importance. This includes mine. This includes everyone else. To legitimately and truthfully accept this fact is against human nature. That being said.. I think I'm an alien.

But in all honesty, I really do believe that everyone and everything has just as much of a right to live and be preserved as my own life. I'd want someone to push me out of the way of a moving bus. So must I hold true to my own moral compass and do the same. It is only right. This is how I live my life.
