Would you risk your life for a friend? A serious approach

In my opinion, you don't need a reason to save a life. Having a friend or family member in danger is all the more reason to try and help them.

Why would I want to save a son of a bitch? I don't want to save somebody who wants to make my life miserable. Sure, I would save somebody who doesn't like me, but not somebody who's trash talking me all day.

they aren't many people I'd risk my life for. but for some of my friends without a second thought.

To be quite honest, I wouldn't ask myself any questions.

If someone is going to get hit by a car, I push him out of the way. Even if it means putting oneself in danger.

There is not greater honor than to save a life, any life, even if you die in doing so.

I agree with superbman, this is a topic i have often pondered about before and I find myself thinking many of the same thoughts as superbman. I think that the answer to this question can't be answered untill one is put in such a situation in which they must choose to act or not. I personally have a very long list of people who i feel i would risk my life for adding to that strangers etc...

I'd like to think if I'm put in a situation where they need my help, I'll rise to the ocasion and do what i intended to do. However, there is always the voice in the back of my head that says "What if you run away?" In the end, I feel that even though this is a hypothetical question, the only people who can give you an honest answer are those who have already been in that situation

Throwing the word "friend" around sounds easy, but I don't say to people "You're my friend" unless I think they really deserved to be called my friend.

So, if I have to give my life for my friend, I will be happy to do so. They deserves it, because they have been an important part in my life.

Depends, they're are some "friends" i would leave to rot, but the majority of my friends i would die for, simply so that i know that my life was used for something worthy

No, I wouldn't risk my life for a friend. Or family. It's their own misfortune that led them to the point where I'd need to risk my life. Let them suffer for their fucking stupidity.

I can't wrap my head around that thought anymore. I've had dear people like really close friends, love etc I probably felt like I would risk my life for those, but thinking back I'd regret it by now. If someone is worth sacrificing myself for at the very peak of relationships but isn't anymore just a few years later on I'm obviously just trying to play the good guy of the moment.

Now thinking about people close to me right now etc I'm unable to guarantee that I'd still have the same kind of affection I'd sacrifice myself over for them in a bunch of years, so as long as I'm not able to read into minds and goals of people I'm rather going with the self-centered route.

You do have a point there, you know. I would agree with you in some cases, but sometimes it's not their fault.

I agree, I'd say I would do the same. No question i would risk my life for a friend. Even after thinking things through, and calculating the risks, whatever they are, if i think i would come out of it alive i would save another persons life. I think its also a sign of respect and, in a way, a test of your strength (physical or mental).

Here are the following people I would risk my life for.

- Children -
I sacrifice my life for them because they have a future ahead of them and they have so much potential in life, and of course they are the future.

- Elders -
They have lived a long life and are not strong as they were in their days.

- Parents -
I know parents sacrifice for their children, but I would risk my life for them, because then they get to see the future by seeing my siblings getting married, having kids and them becoming Grandparents, I know they would cry over me but I did it so they could live seeing the good things in life.

As for a friend .... depends on the situation, if they brought it on themselves then I help them out, but beat their ass afterwards.

I probably wouldn't, unless they beg in a humiliating manner or I couldn't stand to seem them suffering. How do I know this? It usually takes puppy eyes, whining, money and/or immunity for my friends and family to convince me to take any action. For example, I didn't drive my sister to her friends house for prom until she started stomping around and coughed up money for gas and burgers. It's much easier for strangers to get me to do a favor for them, for some reason.

Depend who is it. There are some people where I will get a loan to help them while there are those which I won't even get a penny to them

I might risk my life for a very very good friend, or for my girlfriend. But if it was certain death, I don't know... For my girlfriend, yes. But other than her, its hard to say

Yes, I'd risk my life for even a stranger, provided they weren't 'looking for trouble' and got themselves into whatever situations they may be in.
I often value myself below other human beings because of my paranoia of being useless, probably a legit term for it which I'm not aware of.

Freaking reminds me of that one lyric:

the ideal answer should be "Yes! i will risk my life to save a friend"
most of the time I'll give a helping hand to a stranger and a friend in need and fortunately none of them are life risking.

to me it's more of "I'll cross the bridge when I get there".

I have my family and children to think about. I wouldn't do any action to put them in danger and/or risking my kids being orphans.(but if it's them, I will put my life on the line).

on a related note;

this happened to a friend of mine several times. you know the saying "with friends like these...".
she was used as a human shield
when a live wire suddenly snapped infront of them.
when they got beaten up (IDK if she was pregnant then, (b'coz it was too early) of course if she was then it was probably aborted due to what happened).
there are many more, I'm raging right now just thinking and remembering it.
