this new feature would endorse players to use humanity and keep their health cap up, rather just use humanity only as a health potion.
And it would wink at experienced PVP players to get their HP as low as possible for PVP.

Well now that you can summon your friends from other areas and that summoned characters seem to be able to use Estus Flasks now, the game should overall be less punishing if you're playing co-op.
Or you could just go the pussy way out and play offline.
So I played a little bit of the beta and here's my two cents on it.
Wall of text ahead
I'll start with the good things:
Spoiler:
The new animations are awesome. Everyone runs and attacks more smoothly, and it definitely looks more realistic and less choppy. The spell effects and sound is awesome as usual. Rolling is now a lot smoother, and seems a lot easier to dodge if you time it right. Pyromancies it seems can be used by staffs again (though it might just be for the sake of testing) but there seems to be a new miracle type called Hex. Oh and Soul Greatsword is super awesome looking.
Summoning (at least when it worked) seemed same as usual. However now you can use Estus Flasks as a phantom, as well as a new item called Lifegem (very simliar to the grass used in Demon Souls, single use items that give you varying amounts of health)
What I disliked:
Spoiler:
The framerate was kind of choppy (maybe around 20-25 FPS) but since it's still in beta I assume they can work that out.
The torch mechanic is bleh. It's like Doom 3 with its flashlight mechanic; you have to make the choice of either having your shield out or being able to see well. The problem is that if you switch out the torch it gets put out so you won't be able to use it again till the next bonfire. So a ton of the game is purposely dark, and it's really annoying if you're used to using shields a lot. So either you can see what's trying to kill you and then die because you can't block it, or you don't see anything and walk off a cliff.
The changes to stats also irk me. Stamina and Equipment load are now separate stats. Speed of using sorcery and how strong your sorcery is are now separate stats. Faith is unchanged. The stats really remind me of Demon's Souls, and was the one of several I liked Dark Souls over Demon's Souls.
Backstabbing is pretty much reverted to how hard it was to do in Demon's Souls, which can be good or bad depending on how much you like PvP revolving around people using Bandit Knife and Hornet Ring. Also, Estus Flasks are much slower to use. It's like half the speed it is in Dark Souls. It also heals slowly instead of instantly.
I picked up DkS 2 months ago and it's been a blast. Already logged around 100 hours and there's still so much to do. I'm currently on NG++ and I think I'm good enough for PVP.
I decided to try it and I was already prepared that I will get decimated. Boy, was it an understatement. How am I supposed to gain skills if everyone is BS fishing!?! The lag is also making it worse as alot of them are BS'ing me 10ft away. I can't even get a decent fight. The PVP was supposed to show how a player effectively use the moveset of his weapon not circle, roll, ninja flip, etc. around waiting for a BS.
Man, the PVP system is so broken that I hope they remove BS in DkS2 PVP or at least narrow the hitbox.
All I can do now to escape being BSed is to use Demon Spear or Silver Knight Spear coupled with a great scythe. At least, I can poke+kick them or better yet score some hard dead angles. But it's only doing so little with my current skills.
I'm currently SL120 as my friends said that it's the ideal level for multiplayer
Retail specific pre-order weapons announced (currently for Japan only):
Spoiler:
The internet is currently freaking out over this.
Spoiler:
Let me ask the good people something: when has Pre-order weapons/buffs every given players an unfair advantage? They always suck.
The pre-order weapons for this game look like they're trying to show-off some different ascension routes (like the occult and chaos weapons in the first game).
Sure, if you pre-order from X you'll have a weapon that might poison enemies - but the pre-order bonus won't give you 500k souls!
There was a video posted from his channel but the channel itself should be linked, worth taking a look for Dark Souls lore, if you don't know already. (He's also going to do Demon Souls too.)
As for white phantoms, there will be a time limit on them. I direct you to his latest update (somewhat old though by a little more than a month).

I got to play the beta last night! (gloating like an asshole) It was so much fun... The A.I. is smarter, but cation and studying movements made most of the enemies easy enough. But at the last 30-45 mins they decided to up the enemies difficulty. They became much more aggressive, aware, powerful, comboing more. I think they started to perform attacks differently, but due to the mobbing I had a hard time studying their attacks trying to look for openings.
A friend who had played the previous beta said that the enemies acted differently from last time, I am so curious...
Bow users all carry melee and will switch between the 2 based on their assessment, which are quite well thought out. As well, they are accurate as fuck... too bad darkness doesn't affect them... that would be nice.
wait, so the US gets a figure while Japan gets a set of pieces from weapons from the game?
somehow i feel they're probably going to sell the figure in Japan anyways regardless if it's exclusive to the US.
