Keep in mind that Metal Gear Solid: Rising was cancelled and this game happened, Platinum Games had about a year to fix everything and make a game out of it and they did a hell of a job.
Interesting stuff, mate. Seems Kojima has forgotten that the whole "Solid" thing was/is because the games are revolved around Solid Snake and his lineage, thus changing it to Rising was actually a not so bad call. A better call, or at least one that would've made more sense in context, would have been to re-title it as Metal Gear "Raiden", but whatever.
However, as I reported before in a much earlier post, Metal Gear Solid: Rising wasn't a mess that needed to be fixed. The story was already finished and most of the game was pretty much on it's way to being done. There was only one problem: the dev team couldn't make the gameplay balance BOTH action and stealth, as the segments felt too disconnected or jarring (or something). The guy who was in charge got insulted by Kojima because...Kojima...and with time and resources getting to be a problem, he went looking for a studio that could help get this thing finalized.
The head honcho of Platinum Games was like "Sure" and so they took over and began working on it like a machine. However, the head honcho didn't want to work on the story that was already written, and so he suggested to his new buddy Kojima that the game should have an all new story. Kojima's like "Sure!" and so the intricate story that was ALREADY FINISHED needed to be scrapped and the whole thing needed to be done anew, because, as the head honcho said in an interview, he "wanted to make sure Platinum Games left their mark".
The worst part of all this wasn't really what happened to Raiden's character (that's just my personal opinion), but was the fact that NOTHING CHANGED. The gameplay? Yeah, it still doesn't balance stealth and action.
If this is any indication of what Platinum Games thinks is stealth...
...than they clearly have never played a stealth game before, let alone a Metal Gear game. First hint: running outright =/= stealth
So yeah, Platimun Games made a fantastically fun action game, but it didn't actually fix anything. If anything, PG just pushed the the game into a single genre, which is what the original dev team could've done but since they were tasked with balancing the gameplay styles by Kojima they didn't think to do that.
Solid is used to reference the 3D models in the game compared to the sprites used in the MSX games. Acid is used to talk about the card game and Rising is the action game.
After seeing what Gray Fox and Raiden did in MGS1 and MGS4, do you think people would want to play with some super badass cyborg who can flip around Gekkos, cut through almost anything and have amazing strength to be limited to sneaking around? It worked out when the game concentrated on action in the end.
It would be like playing Zone of the Enders and getting limited to sneaking around with Jehuty, even though it's a weapon of mass-destruction.
Besides, MGR feels like a test game in which they want to see if such a title can appeal to a lot of people and then do a much better sequel with all the feedback.
So, now that I have played a couple of hours of MGR I want to take back some stuff I said earlier. This game is a great action game, without a doubt, and I'm really starting to like it as a Metal Gear. It's still not as good as the others MGS, but I'm enjoying it. The story and the characters and the plot and everything.. At first I didn't find them interesting or deep enough, but as the game progresses I find it more and more "Metal Gearish".
About that stealth and action thing, yes, they failed. There are ways to avoid combat sometimes and to kill without being detected, but that alone isn't stealth, far from it. As a stealth game, it is a total failure. But that fusion of action and.. Hm.. "stealth" works well in the game, so I don't have much to complain about.
To anyone whose been playing this game and listening to the Codec conversations, (which flesh out the game even more by revealing more of the game's characters and pasts) there's a cool Zone of the Enders reference through one of Sunny's calls to look out for in which she tells Raiden she's working on a project and then shows a design of Jehuty!
This can mean two things: One) Sunny is the precursor for the Orbital Frames later in the future and Two) Could this be a hinting towards a new Zone of the Enders by Konami and Platinum games? It would be the coolest thing ever.

Unexpected, but it does make sense. However, it would be cheap pitting an Orbital Frame against a Metal Gear.
ZOE3 is in the works, it's supposed to be a prequel/alternate universe of sorts.
It would feel weird seeing a Platinum Games ZOE, seeing how they mostly excel at air combat and fly all around the place. Some charge attacks can fix that.
North America = May 14th
Europe = May 15th (PS3 Version)
Nice! This is a DLC I was waiting for. I hope we'll get to play "LQ-84i" though, not "Bladewolf" (the former would be the one you face as a boss, the latter is the one you have as your ally after it gets repaired).

It is confirmed it will be before it meets Raiden before the main story, so yeah, you'll be LQ-84i.

I only recently noticed that there's a delicious brown girl in the middle. Thread revival because the master race edition was released. Also, remember to respect nature's rules. Go do the community a favor and throw your neighbor's house at the moon.
Seeing this thread bump reminded me that I still need to complete the harder challenges of this game, (VR missions and Stormbringer run) so I'm going to give it another shot soon as well get the free Sam and BladeWolf DLC.
That reminds me, I need to get around to finishing my Very Hard/Revengence difficulty runthough of this game...damn you Blazblue ChronoPhantasma, let me play single player games for a little while.
