Earthworm Jim HD. 360 version 8/10, PS3 version 9/10. Why the extra point for PS3? The 360's d-pad is horrible (can't hit diagonals consistently AT ALL) and the analog is too sensitive. Dualshock is the way to go for this one, even though I'm not fond of that either.
Incredibly good remake of the first game, but I wish they had added more new content aside from the multiplayer levels. My only issue is that it's easy... The hardest difficulty is supposed to be comparable to the normal mode of the original game.
Regardless, it's still good. Here's hoping they do a remake of EWJ2.
Tales of Vesperia (PS3) that's right on the PS3 :P (import ftw)
and yes, i understand japanese. went through the entire game with no issues, apart from tiny bits in side quests, since those aren't voiced :P
Gameplay: 7/10
Pretty good for a Tales game, but lacks a special attribute that really stands out from the other games.
Story: 6/10
Standard stuff, the whole saving the world thing again...but this time from a satellite weapon that everyone else thinks is a star :P
Sound: 8/10
Awesome OST, just that some of the songs could be better elsewhere
Characters: 8/10
Rather unique (especially Patty), and making their personalities clash made the game quite interesting
Overall: 7.5/10
Pretty good, but some of the trophies are a pain to get, but I guess it's a Tales game that makes making trophies for it a little challenging.
GOING FOR THE PLATINUM!!! 8D (which isn't going to take much longer for me :P)
Make your way to the top of the blacklist and get your car back from some douche.
[Graphics]
Pros: The reflections on the cars that are racing are done very nicely, just about everything in the game can be reflected on them and if you're computer can handle having the update rate for them set on max, they flow seamlessly while travelling through the environment. Many parts can fly off the cop cars depending on how hard you hit them and in what way, it leaves a nice touch to the game. You can drive at high speeds having a motion-blur effect that doesn't impact your driving a lot, but still enough to make it look like you're driving at a considerable speed and make it seem realistic. The paint on the cars looks very nice, especially the custom (pearlescent) paint which will look different and shine brighter or dimmer depending on the way the in-game lighting hits the car. The roads look very well done, even though at closer inspection they actually have a lower resolution than most other details in the game, this is due to the excellent implementation of bloom. Camera angles and slow-motion are also done very well, though they can be a bit distracting when it switches to cinematic camera mode when you hit a pursuit breaker (this option can be disabled). Very high level of customization for your cars.
Cons: Civilian cars are low-poly and have no reflections on them. This takes away from the experience when you pass them on the road and they look so much worse than yours. Vinyls look terrible at higher resolutions, very pixelated unless you use colours that blend exceedingly well. Some areas of the game have a far lower texture resolution than others (parking lots look very bad for some reason).
[Audio]
Pros: Cop chase music sounds absolutely fantastic, very immersive and cinema-like. There is a large selection of music that comes with the game and you can set each track to only play at certain points within the game (Free roam music, racing music etc). Engines, braking and tire sounds are done nicely and are realistic.
Cons: Way too much rap, not enough hard rock. A few of the songs used don't really fit with the mood of the game all that well.
[Gameplay]
Pros: Definitely it's best subject; the game-play is top-tier. You can tune your current car on the spot with the in-game options menu. There are features like lowering your ride height to raise your top-speed, increasing or decreasing handling, using nitrous for short power boosts instead of longer distances, lowering/raising the amount of suspension and my favorite, deciding on when your turbo/supercharger kicks in (I enjoyed this, without real knowledge of how an engine works, you're pretty much going to have to find a guide or go through trial and error to set this properly). Each feature of the HUD can be turned on or off, so if you feel like trying out the game vanilla style with just your car and the screen you can. The physics engine in the game is by far one of the best racing engines I've had the joy of using. The drifting is realistic, nitrous actually straightens your car out like it's supposed to in real life and the handling isn't so realistic it makes the game annoying and overly-difficult. Speedbreaker is very useful for situations where you just can't react fast enough travelling at break-neck speeds, it slows down the flow of the game while allowing you to handle better and giving you enough of a time period to make a couple of quick decisions so you don't run over say, a spike-strip. It's also the only way to pull a 180 going above 280km/h, which by the way is one of my favorite things to do other than smash into roadblocks and blow up gas stations.
Cons: Far too easy to avoid the cops unless Cross shows up and starts coordinating them. Overall AI could have been a little more difficult, it's fairly easy to leave them in your dust if you're car is at the same level as theirs.
[Summary]
Overall a great game, definitely worth playing if you're into the racing-genre and like cop chases. Graphics are decent, difficulty is average and the game-play is fantastic. Storyline could be better, but it's Need for Speed so I won't even rate it.
Graphics: 7.5/10 - Nothing spectacular but the game still looks pretty nice.
Audio: 6.5/10 - Based on personal preference. Though some of the music is catchy.
Gameplay: 9/10 - Excellent, I've been hard pressed to find a better racing game especially when you jump online where the real action is at.
@Ramsus: Use Fooku/MMM/FWE, they add so much more to the game (You can use these 3 together with the Fallout Interoperability Program/FOIP). You're right though, vanilla style is pretty bad and the storyline is dreadfully short. But as with Oblivion, the main point of the game even though it's not official is using mods to customize it.
the last game I played was a vn so it doesn`t count and I track back the last console game was Ar tonelico 3
Yeah, it was a jp game but I understood the story so it`s alright
The score is 8/10
Actually I wanted to give a perfect score cause this series was always my favorite.... But with the song in battle that only one kind per personality made me bored.... Unlike the previous installment that gave every reyvateil vast choice of magic song with different song bgm and vast choice of cosplay. They instead gave a personality change like Miroku in Get backers....
Though it was good but it was onlu a few... Unlike the vast amount of the cosplay and magic song in the previous 2 game.... With the gameplay was changed into more of fanservices oriented. It was good but they made me have to concentrate on two things... Battling the monster and hitting the red beat which I never managed to split the two focus... So I just ran around like an idiot while focusing on hitting the red beats...
But even if that was a negative, the other addition made me gave a great point.. The story of every reyvateil was great... and the fanservices was good too... So I`m fine with that though I still think they should have stayed in 2d while the reyvateil purge. Hehehe
I found that this game is even more incredible that it was when it came out on the PS2.
First of all, the graphics have been cleaned up so it is sharper and much less blurry on LCD televisions. However the option to change the game between LCD tv and Standard tv is a good bonus. The art style still remains very fresh and is a great change from the regular visuals that are found in other similar games.
The controls on the other hand feels very different from its PS2 counterpart. On the Wii, it is fast paced and motion controlled which works most of the time. The problems arise when it comes to the special powers that require the player to draw. Sometimes the game does not recognize the drawings or that it is difficult to draw with the remote, but luckily it can be corrected with practice. All in all the controls are serviceable and opinions will vary from player to player.
Audio for Okami are quite amazing. Commanding a great blend of traditional Japanese music and other odd sounds, it presents suitable music and sounds for the game. From the mysteriousness of the dungeons to the beautiful flute accompaniment during a quick run, the audio creates a whole layer that further enhances the gameplay.
Overall, i actually enjoyed this much more that its inspiration, The Legend of Zelda. Okami is definitely a game that those who enjoy Zelda will enjoy and more so if they like the off beat humor and/or the very fresh mechanic of changing the world around them with a paintbrush.
Okami is highly recommended. Gamers who own a Wii or a PS2 owner really owe it to themselves to have this gem of a game in their collections.
Graphics: 8.5/10
Awesome environment graphics, and awesome looking giant insects. it'd get a 9.5/10 if the character models blink or actually move their mouths when they talk =p (some head parts have visible mouths, and others have but a cloth draped across their mouth, there should be some movement at least when they talk!). Graphical effects and everything is just splendid.
Sound: 9/10
Sound effects are awesome, BGM are hit and miss, some are not as memorable, but most are extremely addictive and good too. Though you wont remember most of the BGM mainly because you are too focused on the task at hand (army of choppers, or giant insects rampaging around you). But if you took the time to listen, or beat the game to unlock the music player, you will know how awesome the soundtrack is ;P the title screen BGM gets stuck in your head really easily.
Story: 3.5/10
3.5 saving grace only because the story does make sense towards the end. But the story is way too simple, and far too short. I dont like it D= the ending is awesome though, so maybe it should have gotten a 4, but whatever. This game isnt about the story anyway.
Gameplay: 10/10
im generally not a fan of shooter games, so if you are a huge fan of shooter games (FPS and TPS), you might not like this game =p from what ive heard, the controls in this game is very alien to shooter game fans, thankfully, im not, so the controls seem perfectly fine to me. I can guarantee that shooter fans would do fine once they get used to the controls. The game itself is awesome when it comes to gameplay. There are alot of things you can do and alot of ways to kill monsters, and there are even alot of ways to dodge, etc.
The grappling hook really adds a whole new dimension to the gameplay. You can grapple on an enemy insect's weak spot, pull yourself to it, and then stick to it while blasting away with whatever gun you have at hand at point blank, hanging onto the insect ;p you can climb these giant monstrosities to get a better aim at their weak spots, or to add a different playstyle into the fight.
Admittedly, i am a VERY VERY VERY huge fan of monster hunter, and the giant boss battles in this game reminds me of it. This would be a cause for bias; but regardless, i enjoyed this game alot, and i am still loving it =p
Overall: 9/10
This may not be enjoyable for some (or most of the western market). This game got horrible reviews in the west, but great reviews in the east. Exactly like Monster Hunter and Armored Core, both of which i love and enjoy playing; This is no exception.
If you want to try something new and/or have the patience to get used to the unique gameplay environment, this game is awesome. But if you are looking for a typical shooter, this wont be your cup of tea.
imho, give this game a rent and try it out yourself ;o all these scores are based solely on my opinion
Just downloaded it yesterday, and finished it this morning.
Half-life
Now, I didn't play this game back in the day where even bad graphics (by today's standards) we're the shit, so I didn't see the awesomeness of the game while playing it. This game, to me, is just an unpolished version of Half-Life 2 rather than just a prequel. There were many problems I had with this game, but I won't waste my time complaining about all of them, so I'll just leave it at this: there were problems. The interaction with the environment is not something I see a lot in other games, that is, pressing buttons, moving crates, that kind of shit, which makes this game better already. It's pretty fast paced compared to Half-Life 2, and the platforming elements of the game really showed how Valve took advantage of the environment. Overall, a decent sci-fi FPS.
Graphics: 7/10
Awesome environment graphics, and awesome aliens models. i give 6 for Master Cheif mordel, the aliens have an awesum model but the M.Chief.., Fog and rain are incredible including when you throws granades and bum the earth all over the ground, blood is only images type print-screens, Graphical effects and everything is awesum
Sound: 10/10
Sound effects are awesome, by the granades or by the aliens speaking weapons firing and ambient effect is really awesome
Story: 7/10
7/10 coz the history is great.. the humans have picked their best sargent to be they cyborg, this cyborg tries to save all the aliens and humans of the flood an type of alien with uses dead bodies to get stronger and goes by there the, Halo 2 is only for Vista (me XP) and the Halo 3 only for XBox 360 aww but the Halo 4 is coming
Gameplay: 10/10
im am a fan of shooter games, this is incredible the controls you just look and accelerate in a vehicle don't need to press A or D to drive to left and right just W and S the rest is with you mouse, tanks are the most harder things there the left mouse button shots the explosive bullet the right mouse button shots bullets, to look and still moving to other side type: i look to left and going right you must press you strafe keys A or D, you get confused sometimes and you enemy kill you
Overall: 9.3/10
This may not be the most incredible game but have an excellent history and lots of Easter Eggs including the "Megg Egg" one of the most harders Easter Eggs in the game.
If you want to try something new and with an excellent history try playing Halo Combat Evolved, but if you want to go Multiplayer in internet try Halo Custom Edition this mod of halo is excellent in internet but, you must have Gamespy Arcade to play in internet
give this game a rent and try it out yourself, is only my opinion
Graphics: 10/10
A huge leap from Ar Tonelico 2 with proper usage of the PS3s superior power.
Sound: 10/10
This is Ar Tonelico so the songs are amazing and you can really get addicted to the tunes of the hymnos.
Story: 8/10
It's in Japanese so I had a hard time following the story until I played it over again with a walkthrough in my hand with translations to story line dialouges and cosmosphere dialouges. The story is sufficient to end the series but not sufficient to satisfy me as I want more cameos or relations to the other previous installments.
Gameplay: 9/10
As for gameplay it's actually pretty HARD if you choose to go on normal mode. Your reyvetail, unlike in the previous versions, can be attacked individually meaning she's always in danger. Also you don't have healing songs to make things easier for you so it becomes really challenging. I would give this a 10/10 but I had to deduct a point from it because of the fact taht I cannot concentrate on a real time battle while looking at notes to time my attacks.
Lifetime: 10/10
There are many endings and each endings have a good, bad and normal ending so over all I count there to be 15-18 endings so this can last really long as players can replay over and over to get other ending scenarios without being bored because each route has different triggers, flags and story scenarios.
Overall: 9.4/10
Overall this game is an epic. It has all the elements I want in a visual novel and all the elements I love in a RPG. I will continue to play this when it comes out in english.
great to see people playing import games out there d(^_^)b
props especially to Naoto and Memphisto for bringing up AT3 still trying to finish that game even now :P just that my gaming environment isn't exactly...perfectly suited for it :P
Just finished Trauma Team for the Wii. There's a lot of good things to be said about it, and unfortunately quite a few bad ones as well.
Let's begin with the good things. Surgery is back and is still fast and exciting, though suffers some problems*. First Response is just as exciting or even more than Surgery. Atlus managed to make some really interesting controls for FR that makes for some really tense and fun action. Having patients constantly coming up while you already have a few to treat on your hands is a real joy to play.
Now onto Diagnostics, I was mindblown at how awesome it is. Just how awesome is it? Let's just say that if they made a sequel that was just diagnosis, I would buy the game. It's that good. The writer really overdid him/herself in here and wrote some really fantastic stuff. Also,
Spoiler:
Forensics was the medical field I was looking less forward to. I mean, forensics in my trauma center, what? But I was blown away yet again. Again some more amazingly written and engaging stories. This and diagnostics really are 2 golden gems.
And the Soundtrack. It's fucking out of this world. Kitajoh completely destroyed previous Trauma Team OST boundaries. Listen to these two tracks.
Spoiler:
*Now the bad parts. Mainly what went wrong in Surgery and FR was it's shortness and lack of challenge. While in diagnostics you can take almost an hour to finish a mission, surgery will never take more than 5 minutes. All of the surgery levels go by in a flash, they're easily the shortest missions in the game, which was disappointing. If any of you have played Trauma Center: New Blood you should be aware of it's insane difficulty. And since I've played both NB and SO, I expected the same kind of challenge. But the game does not provide. The challenges are much much easier and because of the variety of the medical styles, each style was not deepened enough and as mentioned before the missions are way too short.
Now for Orthopedics and Endoscopy. The missions are very slow paced and the controls aren't too good precise. The hole thing doesn't work out too well. A shame, really. Because other than this there's very little I can complain about.
Overall, the game shines bright in quite a few areas, but suffers from shortness and some clunky controls. It's still a very good game, and a must for wii owners.
8/10
Developer : SEGA
Publishers : SEGA and NIS
Consoles : Wii and PS2
http://vndb.org/v3892
Graphics: 8/10
Despite being a Ps2 game that came out originally at 2005, it has some great graphics for the Battle stages. Great details and CG effects.
Sound: 7/10
Sound Effects are your usual generic, but the point here is the music. since most of them are themed songs, it's going to be memorable
Story: 9/10
It can be quite generic, since it's the usual "Fight Evil to save the world", but the story telling, and each characters story are told deeply. and for those Love story lovers, you won't be disappointed.
Gameplay: 7/10
The gameplay is your generic SRPG battles, but a little twist of creativity, since you need to actually allocate your mobility points wisely in battle. You must choose between attacking the enemy more, move more or try to defend and heal yourself. It's much easier to understand the creativity if you played it yourself.
Overall: 9/10
Great gampelay, Great characters, Great Graphics, Great Story, OVERALL Great. This game is a slightly different that you "mainstream games" but that doesn't mean that it's not worthy to play. Trying different things is great for your gamer heart.
IGN Ratings for Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love (PS2)
8.5 Presentation
Despite being mostly static screens with some bite-sized action bits, the slick menus, clean interface and strict adherence to a swinging '20s vibe really makes things pop.
8.0 Graphics
Certainly not the best the PS2 or the Wii have seen, but there's nevertheless a charm to this 5-year-old game -- one that goes beyond polygon counts and textures.
8.0 Sound
Relatively light and infused with a heavy anime dub-level bent, the effects work and voice acting fit the game perfectly. And hey, there are always the Japanese voices if you go the PS2 route.
9.0 Gameplay
The peanut butter and chocolate combination of strategy RPG and dating sim go together far better than one could ever imagine. Getting to know characters is fun - fighting alongside them even more so.
10 Lasting Appeal
It's safe to say this is probably one of the most replayable games of its kind. Hundreds of dialogue choices, exploration and the odd bit of conversation will keep you coming back.
WOW! This game is fucking fun. Never have I been able to slow down time in a specific area around a group of enemies only to be able to go into the area and empty a shell into their face one by one while they can’t move and then watching their corpses fall to the ground as I reload. Never have I been able to steer a bullet across a dock into some unsuspecting soldier hiding behind cover only to be ripped to pieces when it came in contact with him. Never have I been able to steer a spherical explosive object around obstacles to get to a group of soldiers who can only yell “Grenade!” during their last moments before I allow it to explode. This game is fucking fun. Seriously, if the graphics were of higher quality I’d put this game on par with Killzone 2 (which was not only fun, but had the best graphics I’ve ever seen in an FPS), if not better.
The weapons are beautiful. I was in awe of the designs for the assault rifle and shotgun of the game. Not only do they look good, but they’re just great to shoot. The shit some of the weapons in this game can do rival the weapons you’d find in a game like Ratchet & Clank. The weapon upgrading was “meh” but the other upgrades you can make to yourself make up for it. Like in Bioshock, having guns and powers in a shooter is a nice touch. TMD powers were pretty bad-motherfucking-ass, and that’s all I’ll say about them.
The story is lulz. Soviets are butthurt america has a nuke, so they want to one-up them with some special element they found. The propaganda the soviets use in this game is also pretty lulzy. The rest of the game is normal and nothing too spectacular, except for the time travel shit. The entire thing is a mindfuck. So you go back in time to change this, but then this happens in the future, but you can still go back to the past and take for the future, but what about the writings on the walls, how can a confusing past predict the proper future, but what you did…
8.5/10
^Would’ve given it a 9 if the graphics weren’t dated.
What to say about this is- the game itself is pretty old- it debuted on the GBA in about 2002 and was just hard.
i review the PSP-version
Story: sounds kinda familiar- the country of Fantastinia is suddently attacked by the kingdom of Bronquia. The war was short and devastating, ending in a coup d'etat and the death of the royal family.
Only Princess Yggdra was able to flee and is pursued by an Unit of soldiers when a thief butted in and saved her day.
Now Yggdra uses the Gran Centurio- an oversized Sword which is the symbol of royality- to reclaim her kingdom from Gulcasa, the emperor of bronquia.
Story: 9/10- good, but some flaws and some stuff which could be built further
Gameplay: Usual SRPG with a twist. instead of moving every unit using a unit-specific movement range you FIRST select a Tactics Card.
Every Card has a Skill, a MOV range and a POW rating. Now we can move!
but the MOV from the card applies for all units, meaning: selecting a 7 MOV card means all units can move 7 squares in total.
now ATTACK! not. instead of commanding your units to attack several foes you form a "Union", the attacker drags up to 4 other units into the battle, as well does the defender.
now a nicely animated 8v8 (or 4v4 or 8v4, depending on unit types) battle starts
with the outcome depending on the POW value of the card
so, its your basic SRPG with a REAL big twist.
Gameplay: 9/10: the twist makes it funny and more strategic alltogether, it's a bit hard to get into but with the hang you'll master this in no time
Graphics:
Graphics on the battle map didnt change from the GBA version (we have better backgrounds, which makes the castle dungeon level a bit easier)
the animations during the battles are very smooth and the skills are nicely animeted too
Graphics:10/10 smooth, good graphics. for an overhauled game not bad
Sound:
you have a pretty variety of music in this game- every unit has its own agression theme, but unfortunally those get boring after a while.
oh and something that really boosts the score for sound
FULL VOICED
English and japanese!
Sound 9/10: good and catchy music, full voiced
Extras:
are there: CGs, Facesets, Music Gallery, Extra difficulties and stuff.
problem is: you have to find them ingame (which is quite hard >_>)
Extras: 7/10 : standart stuff, but finding them is rewarding.
Now here's a nice sequel. Improvements were made all around. Controls are better, you don't need to walk to the match locations anymore, you don't need to complete any minigames to advance in the story, good boss battles and good story.
People who played the first game and did not like it all that much, do give this a try, it's worth it. And to the people who enjoyed the first, this one is even better, so go get it.
I'll give it a 9/10. There's still room for a lot of improvements, but this is nonetheless a great and fun game to play.
