Silent hill or Resident evil?

Now then, these 2 franchises are probably the most recognized of their genre; Survival/horror. Over the years, we've played these games for the thrills of being scared, the puzzles, the action, the captivating storylines....

And yet both differ greatly in overall gameplay and presentation.

- Silent hill[/h] pits you in the dark, with a flashlight and radio, mostly forcing you to use melee weapons to deal with unspeakable abominations.

- Resident evil[/h] generally puts you in situations where you are vastly outnumbered by enemies, and in the earlier games of the franchise, ammo was very scarce.

Today, I ask you fellow FAKKERS(?); Which do you prefer?

Fans of the silent hill series, I highly recommend you watch this video!!!!

I think you get a better story with Silent Hill, whereas RE focuses more on action; that said, I prefer the former, since I enjoy the attempt at creating a spooky atmosphere, something I never really seem to get from RE.
0
I'd go for Silent Hill for the supernatural "creep you out" factor and storyline. RE is more of action with "surprise" moments especially the first 2 REs.

These days Silent Hill is not the same anymore. With each new SH game i become even more sad. In RE case its vice versa.

Well one thing I can say for certainty that no one will argue:

The Silent hill soudntrack > The Resident evil soundtrack.

By far.

As for me, my vote goes to Silent hill. Origins was pretty good, I don't know about Homecoming or Shattered memories...But the 4th was fucking awful. As of yet, it's the black sheep of the series to me.

2 and 3 were the pinnacle of the franchise. To this day, no other games have scared me as much as Silent hill 2: restless dreams and Silent hill 3.

Definitely have to agree on how SH4 sucks. Honestly, I put down the controller after an hour of playing it. Origins, SH1, SH2, SH3 are good and completes the story imo. Haven't tried Homecoming yet while Shattered Memories I have yet to finish so can't say if they're good or not.

Well i never got the chance to play SH1 but, i completed SH2 SH3 and SH4. I do not know why everyone hates *The Room* so much because i actually enjoyed it. And Homecoming and Origins if i remember correctly they are not *konami* made anymore or some crap like that. Tried playing origins on PSP but deleted the game after 30 min.

wha? no Fatal frame?!~~~ lol

Honestly speaking, I like resident Evil more than silent hill :D

------
seriously, Fatal frame is better, I "scared quit" after some levels, can't stand the mental pressure. finished the game with a friend. :D

Loved Fatal Frame as well. Always made it a habit to play it alone and at night for the mood, With the exception of FF3 I played it at around dusk and for some reason it tends to rain outside when I do play so the catchphrase "It's raining again..." fits so well. XD

This is some real dangerous sh*t were talking about in here.I completed first 3 games *alone* dont remember about the time i was playing it *night or day*. But i have to admit that when i was near the end of the game in FF3, i was scared to go to the bathroom *and it so happens that my room and toilet are separated by a 10 meter corridor* which sucked ballz. And the fun part about FF3 is that: when you play on higher difficulties, scary moments become expanded with more scary crap.

Like there was a moment when you look into a hole and see some girl hitting a wall with a hammer, then she turns around and dissapears. But on higher difficulty another girl will show up suddenly in front of you staring into the hole from inside, while the first one is banging the wall, i was unprepared for that moment and almost wet my pants lol.

It's a draw for me, i can't possible tell which one i like better of the two.

And yes, SH's soundtracks >>>> RE's, but with that said Resident Evil has some really good and atmospheric tunes too.

Lol, fatal frame? Ghosts don't scare me. That, and the gameplay was frustrating. I ran from ghosts not because I was scared of them, but the damn camera controls suck. I played and finished all 3 of em, and I can safely say I'll play Silent hill and/or Resident evil any day over fatal frame. Especially the 3rd one, my god it was so frustrating in that huge mansion.

lol, that's the challenge of playing Fatal frame, you beat the game with frustrating controls. XD Need to try Nightmare mode and scare the shit out of myself

Are you sure you're not afraid of the ghosts, lazy? :P /joke

well, I like RE more, because it's more straight forward, didn't really like the Radio system in SH. :D

I prefer SH over RE any day. The reason is because of the unknown that SH offers while RE explains everything to you. Besides the story behind SH is much better then RE, because the story in SH is more character driven to the point that you care more about the character then the story behind SH and why the town is like that.

Silent Hill does it for me. Honestly alot more creepier which makes it feel more intense.

Streamed me playing Silent Hill 3 a few times to a few people on irc. We all had a good laugh / scared. Good times.

It's all about what you want.

A look at the latest games of each series shows their strengths. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories abandons combat, while Resident Evil 5 is nothing but combat. If you want to shoot a lot of stuff (or destroy zombies and weird monsters, in the original games), you go to Resident Evil. If you want pure atmosphere and spooky stuff, go to Silent Hill.

Personally, I prefer Silent Hill, even if it is hard as hell for me to get through a single game. If I want to shoot stuff, I've got other games for that. Not saying the Resident Evil games aren't enjoyable, but when I want survival/horror, I want to focus more on the horror.
