I always main Samus, but I may also main Meta Knight this game. Side characters new and old will include Link, Lucina, Fox, and Kirby. Pit, Palutena, and Shulk may end up as mains or side characters depending if I do well with them or not.
I'm debating whether I should get the 3DS or Wii U version.
I don't have a Wii U yet, but I'm planning to get one anyways for Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8, as well as Splatoon. The only thing is I'm not sure when I should get a Wii U, and if they're going to have any Smash Bros bundle for it I'll probably just get that.
I'm going to main Lucina now just because of her alternate colors. Those Cordelia and Tiki colors are sexy. No Olivia color makes me sad thought. My poor waifu :(

Shulk also has some cools one that reference all of the Xenoblade party members. I know I'm using the Sharla one.
Just played the demo and hoo boy... (paragraph incoming geiz)
On the casual side, the game looks and runs pretty great. No complaints here about the character models or everything.
Soundtrack is pretty good too. While it was nice to hear the Melee version of Battlefield I kinda wanted a newer version of it too.
However, the biggest issue I have with this game is the controls. While they do take some getting used to, it also feels awkward as hell. I never had a problem with using the analog stick in previous games but I definitely don't like it here. Having the A button be normal attack and Y being jump also annoys me, I'm really hoping you can change movement and button options in the final version.
I can't really comment on characters because none of my mains are playable(Lucario/Sonic/Marth/Luigi) but I feel like Megaman's a bit of a gimmick/novelty character like he was in the first two Marvel vs Capcom games. That's not to say he's bad or anything but it'll definitely take some work to win with him,
Boss Galaga is easily my favorite item, I lost it when it grabbed Megaman and dragged him to the top of the screen.
Now for the competitive side of things:
There's no dash dancing, where you flick the stick back and forth, which sucks. Characters have multiple airdodges like in Brawl, the characters don't feel that floaty to me. Game speed definitely isn't like Melee, it's a bit faster than Brawl but not by much. Two characters can't be on the same ledge, the other one does get knocked off and they do have a chance to recover. And yes, tripping is gone.
The second biggest nitpick I have is..why the hell is there a Final Destination version of Battlefield? That stage doesn't have anything gimmicky about it like Corneria and Jungle Japes did and that annoys me too. There was no need for that to happen to the stage, it was perfectly fine the way it's always been. I know you don't have to pick it, but it just seems like Sakurai just made FD versions of stages just so tourneyfags would shut the hell up instead of, you know, asking more competitive players how that works.
I got the demo and I'm surprised how awesome the Villager actually is to play as. I mean I've heard people say Villager is good but man they weren't kidding. I very much see myself using them a lot. Along with my usual main, Peach. But I want to start using Pit more. Also Yoshi. It took a while to get used to the controls though because I've really only ever used the gamecube controller.
I probably won't buy the 3DS version though and just wait for the Wii U one. I mean I COULD afford both but I'd rather use my money for a diff game instead of the same game twice.
Side note: My friend said that the music that played in the demo is the actual official theme and...I'm kinda sad because like it's not as good as Brawl's. They should have topped Brawl.
I was planning on waiting for the Wii U as well, but I just can't do it. Portable Smash has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid so I rather pay extra for the same game. Furthermore, even if it wasn't something I wanted, I would still buy it because the thought of knowing there's a new Smash out there to play is kinda hard to resist.
I actually found the controls to be pretty good. They're not as bad as people are saying. My only problem is that Grabbing is mapped to L, and that's a button I never used in the previous games, so I haven't used many of them so far. When the full game comes out, I'm switching grabs to either X or Y and I'll be perfect. Also, this made me realize that I don't need to buy any Gamecube controllers/adapter when the console version comes out. The Wii U Pro controller will be godly if I find the 3DS ones fine.
And since we're talking about music, Crunchii is currently uploading all of the tracks in the game:
So been playing smash on 3DS and I have to say it's great. The controls take a little getting used to but after a few hours I got the hang of it. Getting used to using L to grab is gonna take a while though...
The internet seems to still be a little spotty, though it might just be my router (or the fact I was downloading a game on Steam). I played with a friend for about 30 minutes and it dropped me out of the game once.
My favorite character so far is between the Mii Brawler and Zero Suit Samus. Little Mac is pretty fun to play too, though his air attacks really are as bad as the trailer makes them out to be.
Man, Namco Bandai really did a good job with this game. All the stuff that made casual Soul Calibur really good during its prime has been injected into its rightful place in Smash.
Robin is so much fun to use. Both his forward and back aerial are kill moves which is great because I don't get punished as much if I screw up with the direction.
Also, that awesome final smash when I play FFA with items.
