I am male and play as both. I usually play as male for my first play-through or two, then play as female. My reason is I just like to do everything in a game, especially games with items/dialogue/animations/etc specific to the player's sex (Demon's Souls is a good example). If there are virtually no differences in male and female, I'll likely choose male.
In games with good adult mods, such as oblivion and fallout, I tend to play as female.
If there are no major character differences such as stats and if the game allows for customization or costumes then I would definitely play as a girl =]
I have a thing for making female charterers in RPGs and such. In fighting games it doesn't really matter to me. However, if given the option I generally go with a female charter.
But usually, i play as a male (and i am male as well) because sometime male's armor is cooler than female's.
Male skills are more into powerful .. while female skills are focused on swiftness and agility.
Usually depends on the "feel" of the game. It generally doesn't make much of a difference to me.
But on some games, like Mass Effect, I prefer to play as a male character. It just seems to suit the game a bit more. Doesn't mean I won't play as a female though.
In fighting games I pick whoever usually suits my style of play which most of the time is a male though females are generally faster. In MMO's i play as a female cause I'm gonna be staring at the back of someone for a long time. But in the end it just depends on the game i'm playing lol
I suppose it depends. I'm a male, and usually play as a male. However, often times I play games more than just once in which case I will often play as a female character after having played through it as a male.
That said, there are a few exceptions. Fallout 3 comes to mind. Playing as a female is just better. Black Widow > Lady Killer 'nuff said.
Depends. When I play fighters, my mains are usually female. Save for Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear. He's awesome. In an online game, I'd be male because I'd feel kinda awkward if the other players start being overly friendly, if you get my drift. As for the rest, depends on the design. Though, I admit, I usualy like the female designs better xD
Again, it depends. If I have the option of playing as a female in an action game or RPG, I'll tend to take it for my first runthrough, because there's nothing better than kicking ass and looking good doing it; there's also a perceived frailty to female characters, if not an inherent one in-game (worse in certain stats, say with Resi), which adds an extra difficulty and satisfaction in completion. That said, I don't much like the female iteration in Mass Effect, and male characters suit certain other games a lot better (plus they often have better dialogue. There aren't enough sassy, or indeed complicated female chars).
For anything multiplayer - fighting games, Pokemon - I often pick a girl, either for agility or that smugness when I humiliate a friend. It can also be turned around and used as an excuse for losing. :P
