"Let's just... Let's just rest for a moment and figure this out," you suggest.
She nods in agreement.
You smile at her and find a place where the water is shallower. Though it is slightly uncomfortable, you sit down. With all the arduous moving that the two of you have done, sitting down in the muck was only a slight discomfort you had to pay to give your legs a rest. Your companion quickly follows your lead, removing the holster from her hip and sitting down. She keeps the gun close to her chest, ready to take off the safety at a moments notice. Suddenly, she stands up to your surprise, as if she has a brilliant idea. She readies her gun, undoing the safety and aiming it at one of the trees. "What are you doing?" you ask a little worried.
She shoots her gun at one of the trees, connecting with it's trunk. It flails around wildly, swinging it's branches in a frenzy before halting. She then aims her gun at another tree and shoots. As the bullet makes contact with the trunk, the tree stays completely still. She smiles and point this out to you.
"You think that one is safe?" you ask.
She nods her head.
"I guess they can't all be monsters..." you say as you get up and get ready to climb the tree. You pause as a thought comes to you and you look at your companion with some skepticism. "But what if it's just faking?"
She shrugs he shoulders. Just like before, she pulls out her phylactery and offers it to you.
A. Accept her offer and climb the tree B. Refuse her offer and climb the tree C. Think of a better plan D. Other
Sorry, guys, I got carried away in my short moments of free time and wrote a bunch of haikus in a different topic instead of updating!
"Nothing ventured," you say as you grab her phylactery. You start to walk towards the tree. "Nothing gained," you finish. As you stand a few feet from it, you feel a sense of relief that it has not swung at you. With the relief still at its peak, you use it to climb the tree. The vines that cling to it make climbing a fairly easy task. You find a solid branch and stand atop it, scanning the area for any clues. You are quickly pleased by a shimmer far off in the distance. It looks to be light reflecting off of shiny metal, making you immediately assume that it must be the cage. With a smile on your face, you ready to go down before the dread returns to you. Far in the distance, you see ripples in the water that do not look like the natural ones the swamp creates. Luckily, your fast pace has kept the anomaly at quite a distance. Though it could just be your imagination, a voice in your head tells you to doubt. You decide to:
A. Tell your companion to climb the tree and use it as a temporary campsite B. Climb down and continue moving towards the shimmer at your current pace C. Climb down and continue moving towards the shimmer at a more liesurely pace D. Climb down and continue moving towards the simmer at an even quicker pace E. Other

I am back! ...And unsure if anyone is still following this. Anyway, I updated A Young Man's summer after such a long time and I though it would be fitting to update this as well. As I mentioned in that topic, I have been so very busy. I apologize for disappearing without warning and I hope that didn't upset many of you. If you guys are still willing, I am updating right now.
I would also like to add that Destiny has been a shining beacon of hope for me. It has given me such relief in brief moments where I can actually do something else.
You motion for you companion to follow you up the tree. She quickly follows and the two of you are scanning the surroundings in no time. You point her to the metallic sheen that you noticed and she gives you an agreeable look. At this point, it seems to be your best option. Your companion begins to climb down and you quickly grab her shoulder. "Woah, slow down," you say. "We need rest. I think this tree's the safest place. We're at our wit's end and I highly doubt those five bullets are going to make a difference. Let's just rest here for a while."
She has a worried look on her face and she continues to point towards the location of the glimmer. You can easily tell that she wants to depart as quickly as possible. She grabs you by the shoulders and shakes you, insisting that you should move now.
"I don't know itf that's a smart idea," you say. "At our state, we're both exhausted. It might take a while to get there."
She continues to motion, holding up one finger followed by two. She makes a compelling argument with body language.
"One or two hours of walking is going to take a while," you say. "Besides, judging from how bright that light is shining, you'd think we'd be able to see it from the base of this tree. The fact that we can't might mean that we'll get lost. If that's the case, it might take longer than one or two hours."
Even with what you say, she continues to argue staying on the tree. The decision, however, is ultimately up to you. You decide to:
A. Stay in the tree B. Leave the tree C. Other

Welcome back, crazr. Happy to see you return to this CYOA, but...

B. Rest in the tree
Uh...A...no B...wait!...URGGGHHHHH~!
C, other, follow her suggestion and start heading to the glint. It may just be the cage.
Hahahaha! Good point out, I just fixed it. Updates should be happening tonight after school. As I mentioned in a Young Man's summer, I'll read and review your new submission once I get a chance.

Many thanks, I'll look forward to it, and I'm going to comment on the new chapter shortly.
Nine wins this one. This time, I used a four sided die and went with odds or evens.
"Please, don't you want to rest even for just a little while?" you ask her.
Your companion lets out a heavy sigh and reluctantly agrees. She leans up against one of the branches and motions you to return her gem. You do so immediately and lean on the opposite branch. After a short while, you notice your companion relax a little. She let's out a heavy sigh and closes her eyes. It doesn't take long for you to do the same as you both drift into sleep.
To what you assume to be many hours later, you are woken up by a sudden jerk. You shake your head and notice that the tree is slowly leaning. Another good jerk and your companion startles awake much the same as you. As the straining sounds of the tree continue, you both look down and notice a monstrous creature with its tentacles wrapped around the middle area of the tree's trunk. It is the same creature that you encountered before and it is now slowly attempting to uproot the tree. With another tug, you lose your balance and fall. Your companion reaches out and you grab her hand. Now at a sixty degree angle to the swamp water, the tree ominously creaks as the creature halts its tugging. It begins to circle you, waiting for your companion's grip to give out so that it can catch you in its mouth. With all her might, she manages to pull you back up at the expense of her slipping. She motions you to run down the trunk and head straight to where you believe the cage is as she falls through the air and lands in the creature's writhing tentacles. You see her pull out the gun, firing it point blank at one of the tentacles to make it let go. Even so, there are dozens of them slowly pulling her into its crocodilian mouth. You decide to:
A. Run down the trunk and flee B. Jump down towards the monster and fight C. Other

And with a roll of the die, Xen comes out victorious!
"Use your phylactery!" you scream to her. "When you're free, make a dash for the glimmer!"
She nods her head and you see her pull out her gem.
Not wasting any time, you run down the trunk and back into the water. You wade through the swamps as quickly as possible, putting as much distance between you and the creature. You take one look back and see the sparkle of a gem fly through the air and land in the water. Upon doing so, it makes an uncharacteristically loud splash as if it weighs more than it should. Suddenly, from the waters depths, your companion emerges. She books it, running towards you as fast as she can to catch up. Her safety puts a smile on your face as you both continue to run. Even so, you refocus on the current situation and lock on to the menacing creature that is hot on your back. After a good ten minutes of nonstop trudging, you see no sign of whatever you saw in the trees. You and your companion are beginning to tire and the creature is continuing at its pace. At this rate you realize that you and your companion will be moving at a pace slow enough for it to catch you in just a few more minutes. You think quick and decide to:
A. Stop and try and reason with the creature B. Find a sturdy looking tree and try to climb it C. Stop and ready yourself to fight the creature D. Continue to run in hopes that you will find what it is you're looking for E. See if you can lose the creature by splitting up F. Other

I have finished chapter 15 of A Young Man's Summer! It should be up by tonight! Also, some familial problems have arisen in my household and I've lost most of my privileges including wi-fi. I actually need to find a nice quite place in public or in secret in order to use my laptop so updates might be slow. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The rest of the choices are short of logical reason. I say D, but it may resort to E.
Sorry to hear about your personal troubles. Try to maintain a mature attitude, but I still fall back to what I said earlier which is that your real life takes precedence. Best of luck in regards to your situation.

Thanks for the support! I understand that my real life takes priority but I will always feel a slight disappointment when I cannot entertain and indulge people I want to. I think it's just human nature, honestly.
