I would like to participate again, but I don't know if I can top my entries from last year, especially if I can only have one.

All right then, a shorter post concerning the Seasonal Writing Contest of 2011 has been frontpaged, with permission granted by Jacob. Let me know if you people need further assistance on the matter.

um....i basically just wanted to clarify something about rule number 3, what do you mean by "Fakku" related? By the actual users of the site or something similar. Also can it just be an original writing and do i actually have to include sex scenes? (Last questions sounds stupid i know....)

Basically, it means that we either need to see the name of "FAKKU" in it or see a small connection in it. Taking the name of a FAKKU user will do (even Jacob works) but do mention before the start of the story about the user's name that you'll mention in the story.

It HAS to be an original writing within any of the themes mentioned in rule 2.

And no, adding sex scenes is up to you. We haven't encouraged or discouraged it(yet).

ok, now i'm going to sound like an complete idiot for asking this but, your basically saying that we can include the FAKKU users as actual characters in the story right? Or am i'm completely off....

[color=red][b][i]Correct, you can use them as actual characters to your story, BUT please send them as a message and ask whether you can use their names or not.

In case you're hesitating to ask more questions out of sounding stupid; I'd be more than happy to answer more. So don't hesitate to ask, and remember, you can always send messages to the judges to ask questions if you think that you're sounding really stupid and don't want to feel humiliated in any way.

Do I have to write a serious story, or can it be funny? Because I think funny stories should be taken seriously (Haha).

Second, will the public poll be before or after the judges comments? It seems like the public should get to form their own opinion first. And how will you prevent a popularity contest?

What if I write a defamatory story about someone but I got permission to write it from them?

Firstly, in response to whether or not it can be funny or serious, the choice is your's. There are practically no limitations to what you can write about outside of the guidelines listed on the first page. If you want to write a silly story, that's fine. If you want to write a serious or sad story, that's also acceptable. If you want to write a story that looks like it belongs in IB, it's been done.

To answer your second question, the public poll will be before the judges decide and reach consensus. To answer how we will prevent a popularity contest, we won't because we can't. However, the winner of public poll will not be the only winner which is why there are judges to begin with.

To answer your third question, no you cannot write a defamatory story about someone unless it is clearly written in jest which is honestly up to our (the judges) discretion. Chances are; if the person you write about gives permission, it really can't be too libelous. However, it is entirely possible for someone to give permission and then be offended in the future, so just be mindful of your writing. These rules are put in place to stop offensive submissions, which I'm sure you understand why we would want to avoid that.

There are no rules against what you draw inspiration from. It would not be against the rules to generate ideas with your fiancée. However, I don't think she should proofread your writing. It is mainly a writing contest after all and your ability to write is what will sway your reader towards your favor.



Our criteria is diverse because each one of us (the judges) have different personalities and strengths. We have not yet decided if we will use a rubric, it really depends on the submissions that we receive and a rubric will have its cons when so many different styles of writing are allowed. Merely, write to the best of your ability and it will shine out in its own unique way. We did in fact attempt a communal grading rubric for last year's Valentines day contest and it unfortunately wasn't used very reliably, so we cannot rely on one for this contest. However, you are free to use your own when commenting on a piece if you would like. As far as how you can know your essay will be weighed equally among others, you can only take my esteemed gentlemanly word and honor that I vow to hold each submission we receive with equal light and opportunity. That is why you can submit a 1500 word epic, or a 14 word Haiku poem as was recently submitted.
