(This is a Joint post starring: TheLoneGentleman and Cinia Pacifica.)
Leona and Louise decided to take a carriage to the Augusta mansion. They were a well established family in the city, and they have a history of supplying the Shrine, and churches of the divine with powerful leaders. The most recent is the high priestess of the shrine in Masario, who the two women were about to relieve of her position. As they rolled up to the house it was evident that the family had different tastes from the rest of the city. Their mansion was located in the richest district in the city. On a large plot of land they had an old aristocratic house built, and surrounded it with beautiful gardens. As the carriage pulled up the house a tall buxom woman with black hair walked outside escorted by an old gentleman who was assumed to be her butler.
As soon as she saw Louise’s golden locks she darted for her and held her close to her chest. Louise was having trouble finding the room to breathe.
“Oh my Golden Louise!” she said spinning around as Louise flailed around like a rag doll.
“S-Sto-” Louise tried to yell out, but was cut off by the overreacting woman, “W-Who do you think I am?!” she said while being rolled around, it was as if an amusement park ride - except that it was a human ride instead of a mechanical one designed by people. Louise threatened to point her wand at her, but she’d still not stop. Finally, an emergency teleport spell did the trick. Her hair seemed to be wavy to an extent that her beautiful and elegant appearance was in a mess, as though a heavy gust of wind hit Louise, Damn it! I just had to be stuck with an ill mannered woman like this for this generation’s head of the house! If only I was born into future! she cursed, never wanting to meet a person with such mannerisms. It was the only thing she hated in that house, right now. She hadn’t forgotten her as Louise met her once recently after meeting Leona IV.
The woman spun once more before she noticed her prey had vanished. Looking down she saw that Louise was a little ways away from her with an angry look on her face. She smiled in response.
“It is nice to see you again, Margaret.” said Leona helping her friend out by drawing the woman’s attention.
“Oh! Leona Xinia III. This is a surprise!” responded Margaret. “What have you made the trip from the castle for?”
Louise answered on behalf of Leona with a smug face, “In regards to the High Priestess’ case, of course,” she angrily said, “Don’t do that to me, it’s embarrassing!” she sighed.
The woman puffed up her face pouting. “No deal! I will always hug my Golden Louise,” she answered. Suddenly her butler walked up to her, handing her an envelope. “This came today madam…” Taking it from him she ran her finger over the top slicing it perfectly. Then with a flick of the wrist she whipped out the letter and scanned it quickly.
“My my, taking my daughter’s place are you?” she said with a chuckle. “I was worried about sending her out to war. She is such a delicate girl at times.”
“Oh? Taking you say? I’m only reclaiming what’s originally meant for me,” in Louise’s life, one would say that she’d never pass up a chance to showcase her confidence. This was one such moment.
“Still your old self I see.” she said smiling. “Well since you came all this way you must stay for dinner. We still have your room prepared. Fresh sheets and all.”
“You’re so mean, though, Margaret, sending away the precious Golden Louise so lovingly to the war,” Louise said, making a gleeful smirk, “You must be aching to be rid of me from the line of succession,” half of it was the joke, but the other half was just to see the reaction, she’d discern just from her expression how much of a †˜nice’ lady this person actually is. She’s usually too clingy for her to analyze.
“Pfft, I don’t know what I would need to hit you with to take that smile off your face.” she said laughing. “I’m not worried about you in the slightest. Staying here is probably more hazardous to your health anyways.” She said the second line while pretending that she was going to hug her again. For a classy woman her strength was that of a behemoth.
Louise reflexively pointed her wand to her face, “Ah, I apologize, it’s a habit now,” she mocked with her elegant yet cold smile, but that smile turned warm instead, as Louise walked past Margaret towards the house, “Thanks, I’d rather have people not worry about me.”
“We always worry about you Louise, but not for the reasons you think.” answered Magaret as the group entered the house. Leona walked in after them, curious as to how the inside of the house looked now. Ever since Louise turned her on to the aristocratic style, it has fascinated her. “I worry that you aren’t eating enough. You’ve always been so short. I’ll have to fatten you up while you are in my home.”
The inside of the mansion was inhumanely clean. There was not a spec of dust or dirt to be found. The black and white checkered marble floor shone brilliantly. The tall glass windows were so clean you could barely tell they were even there. Artistically carved wooden walls decorated the bottom half of the walls. The rest of the walls to the ceiling were colored in a variety of calming earth tones. As the group entered Margaret ushered them to the large living room. There were two long light brown couches with a long wood and glass table in the middle. A large piano sat in the corner of the room.
“Xavier would you please fetch my daughter for me while I entertain the guests?” ordered Margaret. The older man bowed and walked off at a brisk pace for the stairs that led up to the rooms. As soon as he was out of view Margaret turned to her guest. “Please have a seat.”
“O-Oh no! You don’t have to fatten me up!” Louise stuttered, sweating rolling down at the back of her head as she stepped back hesitatingly, “I eat plenty! Right, Leona?!”
“Hmmmm, I don’t know. She has been skipping a few meals.” Leona said smirking.
“HUH?!” Louise abruptly turned back and forth between Leona and Margaret with an expression that lacked her usual elegance and confidence.
“WHAT!?” yelled Margaret. “Xavier! Bring more crumpets!”
“But didn’t you send him to-” began Leona. Suddenly the old man came out of the kitchen with a plate full of crumpets. “Talia said she will be down shortly,” said the old man as he placed the heaping piled of crumpets on the table.
Margaret glared down and Louise with a fearsome look. “Eat.”
“R-Really… I’m not hungry!”
“Do I have to force the things down your throat? Can’t you see I love you!” she exclaimed. “Now eat!”
Louise’s head lowered to look downwards, her shoulders slumped down as she dejectedly replied with a “Okay… ” as she picked up a crumpet and took a small bite, but then took a loud crunch after tasting what she should not have tasted. They were pre-buttered and perfectly toasted. Louise was in heaven, she knew that she didn’t wanted to taste these, it’d be too hard to ignore them after having a taste. It’s as if she was having a forbidden fruit about now.
Margaret laughed. “Now you are addicted. Eat all you like, love” she said smiling as she sat down taking a crumpet for herself.
“Curse you!” Louise said, munching after taking another one. Her face seemed exceptionally cuter as she ate with tearful eyes. She didn’t wanted to eat, just to spite at Margaret, but couldn’t help herself as her hands and mouth worked on their own.
Leona genuinely laughed for the first time in a long time. Her friend had crumbs all over her face and ate the toasted bread as if her life depended on it. It would be something she would miss seeing when she left to war. In the middle of the group enjoying their food Talia final made her way down. She was wearing an elegant blue dress with her hair wrapped up held in place by a silver flower pin.
Louise smiled, “There goes my dieting plan, oh well,” she shrugged, not giving a single bit of care anymore, the taste was well worth it. Calories be damned, she’d want to stop caring about all that and relax.
Talia stood in front of the group with a gentle smile. “Welcome home, Louise” she said with a curtsey.
“Home you say… ” Louise placed her head over her right palm, looking at Talia, “So you were the High Priestess until yesterday?”
“Wait, what?” answered Talia. Margaret handed her the letter from the shrine to read over. Taking it, she took her time, and read every word.
“Well, this is rather sudden,” answered Talia. “But I have to admit, I am somewhat… relieved. Why would you take my place at such a hostile time?”
“Because a certain someone wanted me to join the military somehow. Like, what’s wrong with going to Cursed land alone? I see nothing wrong,” Louise claimed, still unable to stop munching her food.
“You truly aren’t afraid of anything are you? I envy that courage.” answered Talia. “But what could be so important that you would risk the Cursed lands alone?”
Louise placed the toasted bread down as she smirked, “I have some business to attend to, of course,” as Louise answered, her irises radiated silver light; giving away her captivating determination. Louise currently possessed a large amount of power because she didn’t use magic after the last time she sang.
[/b]“Well I pray that you have a safe journey, and return to us soon.”[/b] responded Talia as the light from Louise’s pupils waned; calming down. The girl reached out for a crumpet licking her lips. As she did Louise claimed the same one. Louise glared at the girl with a growl. Talia yanked her hand back and slinked away. Victorious, Louise then proudly munched her next crumpet with glee.
“I’m pretty lazy, so who knows if I’ll return or not,” Louise said, munching, “In case something were to happen to me, Talia is there to take over. There shouldn’t be any problem,” she stated as a matter of fact, closing her eyes; deep in thought.
“Understood,” answered Margaret. “Make sure nothing happens though.” Margaret narrowed her eyes at Louise. “I need hugs from you till the end of time. But until then I will get all the ones I can before you leave.” she said leaping over the table and tackling Louise. “You will stay here until you leave. Leona can’t have you all to herself.” said Margaret holding Louise unbearably close and pouting.
Louise sighed; ignoring Margaret, she simply gave up resisting for now, “Fine, we’ll have it your way, for once,” she’d still be avoiding the breath-taking hugs after this, regardless, “Mother, you should totally stay over, too,” Louise said with a mocking smirk, then snickered as she looked at Leona III with her gleeful expression.
While Louise was distracted Leona, and Talia were busy decimating Louise’s crumpets. Leona only stopped to answer her request. “That sounds like a great idea. I’ll finally have some time out of the castle.” she said with a mouth full of crumpets. “What the hell does your butler put on these?”
Louise having regained her senses again, put both her hands back to her thighs, I suppose I should stop here. I can’t ruin my figure and proportions! It is absolutely inexcusable to do so! Louise then rubbed her lips lightly with a handkerchief, “I was wondering, did you two met Leona IV before?” she asked, Might as well find out what opinions others hold of the current queen.
“Hmmmm I believe I met her once at the shrine,” said Talia. “She reminded me of myself a little bit. We got along well.”
Margaret thought for a moment. “I think once at a ceremony of some sort. I didn’t get the chance to talk to her, though.” she answered. “She seemed to need more backbone. Girl was a sissy.”
“I thank you, Talia,” Louise said, giving her confident smile, That speaks volumes of your personality. My dear Ishtar, just what is this, an idiot takes after me. An idiot takes after Leona III. What is this recurring idiocy of history? she thought to herself as she cringed. Louise then took notice of Margaret’s words, “Oh? Backbone? Sissy you say, in what way?”
Finally releasing her grip on Louise she sat up straight. Her daughter realizing her mother inadvertently called her a sissy opened her mouth to protest. Before she could however, Leona III shoved a crumpet in her mouth. “At the party she constantly relied on her mother for her answers. She had none of her own, and the girl had no voice to speak of. I didn’t see a leader back then.”
“Assuming you’ve seen her declaration of war yesterday, has your opinion received any change?” Louise inquired, carefully analyzing her expression. Even if Margaret didn’t reveal her actual thoughts, she’d notice any held-backs.
“The girl is a powerhouse, don’t get me wrong,” said Margaret. “But she still has a way to go before she is ready to rule. Still, at least the damn girl made up her mind. I’m guessing you had a hand in that Leona?” asked Margaret.
“In a way, I suppose,” answered Leona III. “I had some assistance however.”
“Says the person who simply dumped all the persuasion over my head,” Louise spoke with contempt, “You should be more thankful!” Louise spoke with her head high.
“So you had old silver tongue Louise talk to your daughter?”asked Margaret. “That was a dangerous choice. How did that work out?”
“Well...she hates the both of us now.” answered Leona. “Its a step in getting from under my wing, but the mother in me is still heartbroken.”
“Personally, I can care less about getting hated from a princess, but as the person who sparked up the war, I’ll see if I can lead to taking the right decisions,” Louise stated, “I am responsible, after all.”
Margaret smirked, “So first you start a war, and then you take a position of power to get closer to Cain. You sure don’t waste any time, Louise.” said Margaret laughing.
“I can usually ignore the passage of time, but this time it’s exceptionally special, you see,” Louise showed her true face, one that showed her nature as a cunning fox, glad to find someone who could see the big picture, “Well, the position is still… what’s rightfully mine. I had only donated it all this time!”
Talia pouted hearing Louise talk. She wanted to believe that she was better than a simple placeholder, but in strength she knew Louise was leagues above her.
Xavier walked in holding a plate of drinks. The ice rattled around in the glasses in a pleasing sound that said delicious refreshments were on the way. In a flash of speedy movements he placed the drinks down on the table in front of each lady. “I made orange juice for you Madame Louise. If I remember it it your favorite?” he said in a kind elderly voice.
“Close, but not quite correct. It was mango flavor,” Louise corrected him, “But it’s quite alright,” Louise drank.
“Ah my apologies, my age must be finally catching up with this old gentleman.” replied Xavier with a chuckle. “I’m glad it is still satisfactory.”
Louise made a bland cold face, “Getting old is a part of ordinary life, nothing wrong with that,” she stated.
Xavier chuckled, “It sounds good to hear that milady.”
Suddenly a hand tussled Louise’s hair. “You alright?” asked Margaret.
“Eh? Ah,” Louise hastily reformed her usual expression, “Yes I am.”
“Oh?” said Margaret stretching out Louise’s cheeks. “Well that is a relief. If not you might have been hugged to death.” She laughed maniacally after her last comment. Drinking her iced tea that Xavier made for her, she felt like she needed something different.
“Thanks, but no thanks,” Louise made an expression portraying her disdain for the deathly hugs, “Who’d think that the grim reaper lied in the devilish action known as hugging?” she sighed, and drank more of her juice.
“Xavier get that crazy stuff that Krieg got for us!” ordered Margaret. Xavier left the room and soon returned with a large bottle of wine. The label read: “Dragon’s Blood”. Xavier then placed four glasses on the table.
“This can’t be what I think it is… ”
“Oh ho ho ho, but it is. I finally got my hands on my own bottle, and tonight me and you are going to drink it all.”
“Count me in.” said Leona III accepting the challenge.
“Why are you signing up for that!” Louise spat out at Leona III, “Y-You do... t-t-this and t-that when drunk… ” Louise hesitatingly spoke, both her index fingers softly clashed against each other as she shyly stated, but didn’t said exactly †˜what’ she does when drunk. A tint of pink appeared on Louise’s cheeks as she reminded herself what happened the last time she drank wine with Leona III.
“What was that?” said Margaret having a hard time hearing what Louise was saying.
“S-She said that she can’t wait to give it a try,” said Leona covering up what Louise was trying to say with her hand. She didn’t remember last night at all, but she sure didn’t want it being revealed to Margaret who was so protective over her †˜Golder Louise’.
As she felt Leona’s hand in front of her, trying to stop her from speaking further, Louise’s mind took a trip to muse, Tch, this is bad, talk about two big daughter-freaks here. Perhaps I should escape temporarily. It shall be my tactical retreat! Louise came to a decision, she spoke with a forced smile as she prepared to stand up, “W-Well, I’m not quite in the mood, actually. Perhaps I should refrain from it tonight. You two may enjoy yourselves!”
Margaret was hearing none of Louise’s excuses. Taking a glass, she forced Louise back, and poured in the burning wine. It was at least ten times stronger than anything she had ever had before.
“Ugh,” Louise groaned, It’d be rude to teleport out like this, but I can’t simply run away, either. Curse these two hardcore drinkers, she insulted the two mentally, but conceded, “Fine, I’ll have it your way,” she said as she whipped her wand out for protection. Not that it could actually help, she wouldn’t really kill. Her patience - would probably - persist.
“You’re no fun!” said Margaret releasing her hostage. Suddenly she heard some giggling coming from nearby. Talia in an effort to show her mother she was strong drank a glass of the wine in all the commotion. Her face was red showing she was heavily intoxicated from only one glass.
Suddenly I feel lonely. More like, I’m about to… is this really that strong of a drink? Louise pondered as she picked up her glass of wine. Shaking the glass very lightly, she examined it, I can’t tell if there’s anything wrong about it, hmm… shoving her curiosity aside, she braced herself as she chugged down some of the drink with a few gulps. “Mn… not bad, this taste is beyond exotic,” she commented.
“Exotic? This is supposed to knock you flaton your ass.” said Margaret grabbing a glass of wine. Pouring it straight down her throat she felt the burn all the way down. Gasping slightly she smiled. “Thats a damn good drink.” she said feeling very light. Leona III leaned back taking her drink slowly and enjoying it.
“My, my, should you be using such vulgar words as a head of an honorable aristocratic house?” Louise placed her hand close to her mouth with a smile as she questioned Margaret’s manners. She then replied to her actual comment, “Hmph, it’s a thousand years too early for a mere drink to conquer the glorious me!”
“As my husband will tell you. There are times when you must act prim, and proper. There are times when you have to shut up and listen. But in here when drink and good times are shared, you must cut loose,” she said pouring the four of them another glass.
“I apologize, but that is a terrible manner of losing control and stability. I shall try my hardest and ignore such saying,” Louise said as a matter of fact after closing her eyes for having some deep thoughts, “How has your husband been, though? I’m yet to meet him ever since I got back to this city.”
“Krieg? Busy as usual. Arkasia has him running around so much that he barely has time to come home and visit. When this war kicks off though he is staying close to watch over Arkasia.” she answered.
“I see,” said Louise taking a sip of the fantastic wine, “Oh, do tell how you procured such wine. It’ll help me kill time in the future.”
“I tracked down the source, Louise.” answered Margaret. “He was pretty hard to find too. He lived far off in the forests of origin. As legendary as his wine is, you’d think it’d be easier to find. I had Krieg pick me up a bottle, and I stored it just for such an occasion.”
“Uh huh,” was a rather dull reply from Louise, “Maybe I’ll visit †˜him’ too, someday.”
As the four women enjoyed light conversation time passed quickly, and before they knew their day was drawing to a close. They had sought out to finish the whole bottle, but they were defeated by it. Margaret would have to finish it off another day.
“So you defeated that monster they say was summoned in the plaza?” asked Talia sitting on the edge of the couch.
“More like decimated,” Louise answered, she then commented, “It was a rather strange summoning spell that brought it into our realm.”
Talia was impressed that she was able to take out such a large beast even with the help of the royal guard. The power of Ishtar was not to be underestimated. Suddenly Margaret stood up and stretched. “I think that is a good place to end story time.” said Margaret with a yawn. “Let’s all get some sleep.” Xavier appeared from seemingly out of nowhere. “I will escort the ladies to their rooms.”
“I’m sure that Louise remembers where her room is Xavier.” answered Margaret. “But I will leave Leona in your care.”
“Yes Madam.” he answered.
After the ladies had wished each other pleasant rests, they all headed to their rooms. Leona who was still slightly drunk collapsed into her bed, and passed out immediately. Talia and Margaret went their own way while Louise walked slowly down the halls of the familiar mansion. Gently touching the door knob she knew that the room was hers. Opening the door she looked into her room, still kept dust free and spotless. It was nice to know that even while she was away they cared enough to clean a room no one was using. After laying in bed for a moment - wrapped in thought - she soon fell into a peaceful sleep.
