"Does this mean I'm a part of this city's large number of oddities?" Mitori asked to herself, after waking up in the large luxurious bed of the hotel. Arriving here last night, Mitori remembered at the last second that the hotels set up in this district are all strictly meant for foreigners. There's even a high-speed railway installed on Academy City that leads foreigners straight to district 3 from district 23,
What was I thinking... she thought to herself, forgetting a general knowledge such as this. In the end, she pulled her strings, and it worked out in favor of her group. They were able to get two rooms, one for herself, the other for the two. For a second she felt like one of them was expecting to sleep with her in the same room. The daring thought of actually allowing that roamed into her mind, but she dismissed it for an indefinite period of time. Lazily looking around with her messy and ruffled bed-hair, she yawned. Her eyes laid on the short figure who lied on the sofa, it's where she mercilessly put her; denying her the pleasure of resting in the soft and comfortable bed.
Shou woke up with a slight headache. Yesterday had been relatively rough for him as he was pushing his mental limits for longer than he normally would've.
Damn, that teleport juggling took a toll on me. Shou was grateful that the hotel Mitori got them was a nice one. After washing his face, Shou walked out to find Sadao waking up.
"Morning," Shou said rather bluntly.
Sadao slept like a rock. He hadn't had a decent night of sleep in a long time, and his bed was no where near as comfortable as this. As the sun peeked in through the windows he stretched with a audible yawn.
"Morning," he answered as he slid out of bed. He was still in his jeans, the only thing he took off was his shirt. He would have preferred to sleep like he usually did, but he had manners at the very least. Running his hand through his hair he felt dirty. A little bit of blood found its way into his hair.
]"So, how did you end up with us? I have to say I was a little surprised," he asked.
Normally Shou would've been a bit more cautious, but at this point Shou didn't exactly care. He'd just witnessed both Sadao and Mitori slaughtering Skill-Outs yesterday, so he knew that he was going to be sticking around for a while.
"I was blackmailed. Caught killing some scum that robbed a place. Lo and behold, I end up here." Shou scoffed at how far from a normal life he was now.
"That is your first mistake. If you get caught just own up to it. You were doing a public service in my opinion. Just like me and Mitori did last night," answered Sadao. Standing up, he walked over to the bathroom door.
"You think they would thank us for this kind of stuff, ya know?" he asked not really expecting an answer.
"I'd have taken other steps if I really cared about the blackmail though I'll have you know. Let's just say the phone call I received piqued my interests. I didn't exactly flinch while you two wiped the streets clean of the scum now did I?" Shou answered.
Sadao smirked,
"No, I guess you didn't," said Sadao.
"I'm going to take a quick shower. See what Mitori is up to why don't you? I hate blood in my hair," he called out as he closed the bathroom door and got ready for his shower.
"Alright then. Hopefully she's awake by now," Shou said as he walked out of the room and into the hallway.
Mitori dozed off as she stared off towards the view of the city she could see through the wide window. The sunlight rested on her figure, it's warmth felt like something that she hadn't felt in ages. Mitori thought that it was alright to feel this forgotten sensation for a little longer, but her phone rang, not allowing her to indulge herself in her own wants, "It's still too early to call, old man... " she spoke rashly, annoyed, her voice sounded ragged as she just woke up, "It's about time you deliver the child, wouldn't you say?"
"We'll be there after we have breakfast," she instantly hung up, with a smug face.
Shou arrived at Mitori's room rather quickly as it was only a few doors down, and he lightly knocked on door and called out,
"Mitori, you up yet?"
Opening the door lazily, Mitori peeked out, "About time the babysitter got here," she weakly let out. Keeping the door open for Shou to come in, she walked back into the room.
Shou walked in disregarding her comment, though even he knew that it was pretty accurate as the first thing he did was look around to make sure Fuyuko was okay; Shou saw that she was still asleep on one of the beds. With that issue aside, Shou asked,
"So, have any plans for the day? Or are we still in hiding?
"You're gonna be carrying her around again. I injected her with a sleeping medicine... or whatever that's called, the old man gave those to me just in case," she sighed, still feeling sleepy, "We got orders to hand her over, can't exactly keep hiding her, even though I'd rather sleep in here all day long."
Shou felt bad for Fuyuko, but sleeping drugs were as good an alternative as any compared to being forcibly knocked unconscious.
"Ah, well I expected as much. Well, Sadao should be out soon enough. I'm assuming we're free to get some food downstairs?" Aside from his headache, Shou could definitely feel the insides of his stomach churning in hunger as the only thing he'd eaten since yesterday was a dinner roll.
"Ahh... I personally don't wanna leave without eating here, either. So we're leaving after having breakfast," Mitori responded, coldly looking at Fuyuko who peacefully slept in her sofa.
Shou followed Mitori's gaze. Seeing as how Fuyuko expelled everything she ate yesterday and probably more, he wondered if her body could sustain for long. With sleeping drugs being applied, he had to assume that Fuyuko was probably starving. He directed his gaze back at Mitori,
"I'll bring some food up and feed her. She's been forced to sleep, but she needs nutrition if you want her alive. And I'm sure you want her as healthy as possible as it seems we've been avoiding simply forcibly knocking her out."
"Sure, I don't mind you feeding her. We do need her for the project," Mitori listlessly replied, letting her body drop on the comfy bed, "I really hate the idea of having to go out soon."
"Alright, well I'll be heading down now, since it'll take a bit of time to feed her. You can get Sadao on your own; the door isn't locked," Shou said as he walked out, casually waving 'goodbye'.
Washing up with the cruddy soap hotels always provided he was at least able to get the blood out of his hair. Reaching out and grabbing the towel from the rack as he turned off the shower, and he tied it around his waist. Sadao brushed his teeth and washed his face before putting his clothes back on. Sadly there were no change of clothes for him. Walking out of the bathroom he grabbed the rest of his things and headed out of the room to the hallway. Knocking firmly on the door next door he waited for Mitori to respond.
Opening the door, Mitori left it open for Sadao to enter, again, and went back to her bed. Too attached to the bed where she fondly slept... she felt the need to favor the feel of the comfort she received from it, not wasting even a second standing around.
Walking into the room he saw her lay back down on the bed and laughed.
"Why are people so lazy in the morning? Or maybe I'm the odd one that gets up, and actually works?" said Sadao leaning against a wall in the room.
"So what the plan? We leaving now?"
"Hmph, it's fine to be lazy when on this bed! ...Err, anyway... ' Mitori cleared her throat, "We're leaving after we have breakfast."
"Our destination is at district 10, the Reformatories."
"Understood," answered Sadao.
"So when do we eat?"
"...Now," she lifted her body from the bed, giving a yawn, "Once we're done eating, we're gonna take the direct railroad line that leads to distict 23, it's usually used by foreigners so that they can get to this district for hotels, directly from the airports at district 23, but it's going to act as a short-cut for us considering how far district 10 is."
"Don't think security cameras will spot me? I can go on foot," suggested Sadao. The last thing they needed was to get spotted on a train and have the thing go into lock down.
"About that," Mitori stretched her body, "I think you can get by just fine if you wear different clothes and kept your hood down, as no one should know your face," she gave a brief pause, considering his suggestion, "But you can go on foot if you really want. You might run into more trouble, though."
Sadao t
"Time to go clothes shopping I suppose," said Sadao laughing to himself. "Since getting back to my place isn't happening any time soon," Sadao was a little annoyed at that, but there was nothing he could do about his situation.
"You could go back there to surrender," Mitori smirked.
Shou made his way down to the hotel's lobby and afterwards, to their dining area. Unsurprisingly, the luxurious hotel did not disappoint. There was an all-you-can-eat buffet at one side of the dining hall, though as it was still early, breakfast items such as omelets, bacon, grits and other assorted things were on the steam-tables. On the other side of the dining hall were chefs waiting to serve food directly to those that had specific requests.
Well damn. Didn't realize this place was so impressive. Well, I'll just get some food and head upstairs
Shou filled a plate with a couple omelets, a biscuit, and some bacon. Afterwards, he talked to a chef that was free and asked if they had any applesauce on hand that he could have. It only took a minute for the man to head into the kitchen and bring out a small bowl of applesauce.
Wow... it's even chilled. This place is pretty insane. With his food obtained, Shou got some utensils and began heading back upstairs towards Mitori's room. He saw both Mitori and Sadao heading to the dining hall and as he passed them by he let them know that he would be finished within an hour.
Shou got back to Mitori's, which was unlocked, and pulled a chair over to where Fuyuko was. First, he downed his rather delicious food. In hindsight, Shou realized he could've just eaten in the dining hall, but it was a bit late for that. After putting his plate down on a nearby table, Shou took the bowl of applesauce and brought his chair next to Fuyuko's head. To him, Fuyuko felt like she could've been his little sister, or maybe even his child if he was just several years older. Shou carefully and slowly spooned applesauce into Fuyuko's mouth, making sure to stop for a minute or two so that she could properly swallow it. Time went by quickly, and just as he finished feeding her the bowl, an hour had passed.
I suppose Mitori and Sadao should be done about now. I wonder what's the next plan, Shou thought to himself as he got up and blankly gazed out at the window.
After him and Mitori enjoyed an extravagant hotel breakfast, the two headed out to find some different clothes to wear for their trip. It was weird to have to shop for a simple train ride across the city, but this was what needed to be done to keep a low profile. Luckily there were a few stores close to where the hotel was located so he didn't need to travel very far. Heading into a casual clothing store he grabbed a few things that looked good to him, while Mitori waited outside the shop. A red hoodie vest, a black shirt, dark blue jeans, and some red and black sneakers. Calmly he walked to the cashier and placed the items on the counter. He didn't hunch over as to try to hide his appearance. He just tried to appear very shy.
The cashier began to slowly ring up the items. She probably smelled something that she couldn't put her finger on. The scent of blood and soap. Finishing the check out she placed the items in a bag, "That will be 1145.92 yen," said the woman half expecting for that to be too much. Taking out an emergency credit card he always had on him, he handed it to her. It was a rather prestigious card that required some serious money to qualify for. Smiling, her demenour changed, "Is that all we can do for you today, sir?"
"Yes, and I will be wearing this outfit out of the store," said Sadao as he retrieved his card, "Please shop here again," she said with a slight bow as Sadao headed to the dressing room to change. Quickly swapping outfits he placed his old one into the bag. He would take it and dispose of it later. Pulling his hood over his face he walked out of the dressing room. The woman gave a slight bow again as he exited the store.
"Isn't that a bit too fancy for a villain seeking to keep a low profile?" Mitori commented, walking off to the direction of their hotel, "We're going back now." Shou and Fuyuko was still back on the premises from which they departed for the trip to the store. Waiting outside a store is terribly boring and annoying at the same time, it's what she learned today. Seeing the peacefulness of Academy City felt too odd a thing to her.
"Ever heard of hiding in plain sight?" answered Sadao.
"It'll be fine as long as I don't go doing anything crazy." Heading back to the hotel with Mitori, this all felt strange. Missions usually didn't include expensive hotel stays, and shopping for new clothes. At least not in the line of work that they were in.
"So how did Gensei react? You talked to him right?" asked Sadao as the headed back to the hotel.
"React to what?" Mitori asked back, then yawned, pondering whether she should have laid down on that bed a little more...
"Us kinda blowing the mission? He couldn't have been pleased,"
"He was too happy to care, he couldn't care less unless we lost Fuyuko."
"Well, I suppose we have nothing to worry about then,"
"Yeah," Mitori pointed towards a large screen atop a building, "As long as she - his puppet - keeps improving and keeps entertaining him, we have nothing to worry about as long as we keep the end of our bargain," the TV screen was airing a commercial in which Kihara Natsu was featured.
"Natsu sure has been causing a bit of a mess of late hasn't she. That security detail was probably my most troublesome guard job yet."
"That was more like an observation job, though. She's made to make mess, and this entire city is her experimental ground. At least, that's what that old man is trying to make her think. I'm just spouting speculation here."
"Well he is doing a pretty good job in that department. Maybe that will keep the Railgun off our tail for a little bit. I have been seeing a bit too much of her lately for my tastes."
"Ah, right. We have to be careful of that Railgun and Mental Out. Apparently it's under the old man's estimates that they'd try to interfere with the project."
"In the estimates, but lacking a way to deal with it? Guess I can't blame him though."
"His estimates are almost never wrong, though. He uses anyone that plans to thwart his plans. There is the possibility that everything that's happened so far has actually been according to his plans. One would feel paranoid if they come to know that, though."
'I've almost bit the bullet twice, and this is all a part of his plan? Sadao thought with a chuckle. But Sadao knew a long time ago that he was expendable. Along with Shou and probably Mitori too. They were all his pawns in his game. But as long as his pay was good enough, he had little problem with it. It was better than he was going to do on his own.

Mitori yawned, past 12pm, the three walked. District 10 having the worst public security order and poor land prices, made it the perfect place for Kihara Gensei to have members of the dark side of the city to deliver someone such as Fuyuko Hyotoki. District 10 was known to have laboratories related to nuclear power, disposal areas for experimental animals. It also contained the infamous Special Ability Institute which specialized in researching Dual Skill, it's operations were however, dismantled by Anti-Skill. It's also known that delinquents live in the area, gangs such as Skill-Out are known to have their own turf in this district. Surprisingly, they have the ironclad rule to abandoned little kids or cats.
The buildings gave a strange vibe, as if abandoned for ages. It felt like the three entered a time machine, and came back to a more old and non-modern Academy City, or a place that was struck with apocalypse, such was the atmosphere the urban decay of the surroundings gave away, "I guess this is the reason why the land prices around here are dirt cheap," Mitori nonchalantly commented. Approaching the Reformatories, Mitori thought that their time with each other was finally coming to an end.
Reformatories was the only Juvenile Hall of the city. It is house to the espers who used their psychic powers to commit crimes. Due to this, it's equipped with counters designed to be used as counter-measures against ability users. Kouzaku Mitori was once held in the facility, and was later offered a deal by Kihara Gensei to be freed. As such, there was indeed news of her escaping the facility was noted publicly, but there was no 'wanted' sign for her. She is simply labeled as a missing individual.
"Same deal in my district. But things are still a little better than this," answered Sadao. The train ride went smoothly despite them having their hostage with them. People really stick to their own business in the city. Looking into the distance, he saw the familiar building. This was where he was offered to stay instead of his old place. It looked like he would be staying there after all. He ran the risk of being caught other wise.
Shou was both impressed and slightly discomforted by how smoothly heading to the new destination was. Shou was carrying the knocked out Fuyuko, and while there was the occasional glance, there was virtually no kind of response from people. Clearly, Shou was not Fuyuko's father no matter how young she looked.
Perhaps, people are just taking action quietly, but still... He could not help but be surprised that not a single person had questioned him. Maybe news spread that Sadao and Mitori had slaughtered over a dozen people.
Looking back at Fuyoko, Sadao thought about what she'd be going through. He had no idea if the experiments would be as extreme as his was, but a bit of him felt guilty. Still, the money that he was going to get from completing this job was going to easily fill that hole in his heart,
"Doubt we will get to stay in beds as nice as that for a while. We might have to find some reason to get back there," said Sadao jokingly.
It was a short walk from the station to the reformatories. It was just a tall brown colored building, and a publicly known one at that. But it housed the darkest things this city had to offer,
"Lets deliver Gensei's toy before he gets impatient," said Sadao.
Shou cringed briefly after hearing Sadao's words, but even he knew that once he reached the Reformatories, Fuyuko was likely going to be far from Shou and whatever little intention he had of possibly protecting her. As Shou idly thought about what kind of experiment that Fuyuko could be put under, he'd realized that he never saw what she could do, which in turn made him even more curious. But, his deeps thoughts were soon interrupted by the sight of a tall building that was coming into view,
"I'm guessing this is the place?"
"Yes, this is the place," Mitori answered, looking at the tall building, it reminded her of the crime she commited. This place felt nostalgic to her now.
