Valentine Writing Event 2014

The format mostly taken from the Halloween 2013 Writing Event designed by our great friend HumbugsAssociate. Much appreciated for your hard work and dedication.

Now, on to the opening note.

I'm not good but words, but speaking about Valentine, the words of being 'Single' or maybe 'Together With Someone' came to mind. Lots of things happened - one moment of time when you remembered - you simply just wanted that chocolate bars so you went and mugged the girl for it. Or you simply thought you're being so lonely that nobody's out to give you one. Your big, muscular uncle came in and gave you a chocolate pizza - well that's groovy.

Either way, Valentine's a moment for ours to celebrate. Either by eating chocolates, going out with someone, or even crying alone in sleep while masturbating to kinky sex groovy porno.

Lots of sappy or maybe cliched romance, but you know you love it as much as I do. Light and fluffy or even deep and amorous love for ours to experience. Either in front of computer, or out there - in our land of dreams. Maybe in reality it will happen too, but who knows?

Life and love, are full of mysteries just like that. It's up to us all to experience the full spectrum of the greatness of love that's going to unfold. Be prepared, to test your heart - for love is the only answer.

Similar to the Halloween thingy, this is not a contest - no win or lose. Just participate and get on it with all you got =)

Guidelines

The theme for this year's Valentine event will be normal enough I think, and somehow general. You can write in either themes or try to include both of them.

Let's go with Love and Fairy Tales for this one. For the Fairy Tale thingy, at least it could give a feel of something straight out of a fairy tale. For the 'Love' theme, you can include so many things with it. I'll let yourself be free to describe your own definition of love in your writings, that is, if you decide to go with this theme.

Another one, please give the tag [Valentine 2014] to the entries submitted, and please link your entry here to be included to the list.

Same with the Halloween Entry, do not ask for others to fix grammatical errors and such - just take it easy.

FAQ

Q : Can I submit multiple entries?

A : Yup. It isn't either discouraged or encouraged.

Q : How about lemons (erotic stories)? Can we write 'em?

A : Feel free to do so.

Q : Can I submit a poem, essay, narration, etc. rather than a story?

A : Yeah, just freely express yourself mang.

Q : Can we submit fanfictions or our old works that have something to do with the theme?

A : For the fanfictions, I think I'd rule them out. Please submit your originally written work. You could submit your old original work if possible - though I'd prefer you guys submit something fresh from the oven. (Yeah especially telling this to me too, I'd better also start putting in more effort)

Q : How about the word limit?

A : At first I'd like to set no actual limits for this one, it can be as long or as short as you liked. Though if I were to set a limit so no one would post things to long like an entire series, the limit goes up to about 6000 words or so.

Yes, the word limit for this one is about 6000 words - the original limit was about 12000 words, but I decided to tone it down since it might be troublesome to various people.

Anyways for the more general questions, there will be no judging for this one. We'd just participate for the sake of participating.

The deadline will be set at February 14, 2014 (UTC -4.00) - the Valentine's Day. We can accept submissions until the Valentine Day ends. Of course we could prolong things a bit for the late-submissions but don't get your hopes up right away, please do your best and submit your entries on time!



There will be no Official Prize for this event, but don't let that get to you. I think, each of us has our own personal favorites. We all could opt to be the prize giver, and give our favorites the prize =) Who knows there might be loads of prizes to be given during this event.

Everyone could get them. I'll also try to contact some people who are interested enough on giving prizes.

Somewhere after the Valentine's Day - ranging from few days to few weeks depending on the number of entries. I'd probably make an announcement thread about the Prize Giveaway, or it could also be done in this thread. The range of days given was to give time to the people who want to read and review all the entries before deciding on their personal favorites.

The prize-winners will be the personal favorites from each prize-givers. There will be different winners for each person. The giveaway will took place, ranging from few days to few weeks after the event ends.

Seems mostly like just an event idea to get some writing done, which is not a bad thing. Limitations make it easier to write, since you have some given points to go with.

I will see if I can write something up for this.

I guess if there are no judges, then the problem is who would even win a prize. Could be a majority vote I guess.

I don't have anything to give, I could only offer to make the winner a signature, an avatar or a gif of a part of a video of their choice.

well. I think there's a solution to this.

each of us has our own personal favorites. you can give your favorites a prize for that. I don't know if there's going to be a poll going on but I'd just like to wait and see what happens next.

I had like the perfect piece of Fanfiction on my Fanfic page that was perfect for Valentines (hell, i based it on that theme) writing competition!

But then you go ahead and rule out Fanfiction...Ah well.

I'm fine with being an observer this time around, I guess. No real loss to me...i guess.



And also...Prize, eh? I can't really do much in regards to that. I'd give out mayhap a free TL, but i'm backed up with requests so that's impossible haha.
Unless it's like a 4 page colour one.

about the prizes, I'd like to think of it as more of a surprise thingy. I mean, you just give it out to your most favorite one, to the entry you felt was the best one.

Haha I know. Let them have their own character in the next story I write haha. Simple prize and generally worth nothing.

They can even describe features and personality and quirks. How's that, or like a special story written just for them.

I think, feel free to give any prize you want to them. that one is good too =D

LOL. Wut? I think you oughta refrain the competitors a little bit. I mean...12000 words? Talk about eye-straining. I hate to read long-ass stuffs on a computer screen. Most people (me mostly D: ), if not everybody, would be like "lol, tl;dr". I think make it about 5000 words or 8000 at best is about enough.

I'll try to find some time to make up something, either way :3

well. I think at the last Halloween Event, there is Xenon's entry with about 12000 words and it's still a pleasant read. you don't have to read long-ass stuffs if you don't want to (but I for myself would still try to read it), and I reckon there won't be that much of things expanding to lots of tl;dr thingy.

about the long entries, I think it's more about the story too. if it's that well written, even 12000 words of a story would pass by so quickly when you read it.

still, if there's a lot of complaints going on I'll try to lower the word limit to about 5000-ish words.

relax, it's not a competitive event. there might be some competition with the random prize givings on the favorite stories but just relax man. I also invited some friends from the other sites, some were also an expert of reviewing stories - just to join in the fun =D

Nah, it's not that I'm complaining. Of course, I read books and those are long-ass, but my eyes get tired very quickly if I were to read them on a computer screen and not actual black-and-white papers. I do want to read all of the stories as a fellow writer, but I'd very like to avoid lengthy stuffs if I can.

I will find time to join for the sake of participating anyway, but I'll admit it would be awesome to have some stuffs translated, like the prize for the winter contest last year.

I think Aza had offered to translate short color manga pages in the previous posts. yeah, it'd be great if we could contact the translators to give out translation requests.

still, there's probably an issue with personal favorites thingy especially if there's lot of entries going on and the prize giver might want to give it straight away. don't worry though, I'll try to discuss it with you guys to handle this.

I think 6000 is more than enough to let our imaginations run wild, so I'll say it's about ok.

I think prizes are nice, but I don't pay that much attention to them. Nevertheless, they do provide motivations :D

I guess that works. Maybe add the posts of what people will give to their personal favourites as quotes to the first post, so that anyone interested can see what they might get, as some more of an incentive.

LEONARD267 HOSTS THE VALENTINE'S DAY EVENT

I finally got to reading this. I like what I'm seeing, especially Love and Fairy Tale. That will make for some interesting stories. I can't wait to read what people submit...leonard, that was fast.

I'll write another poem dedicated to the person I like the most.

The only bad thing I see about this is that we might all have the same favorite, so someone might suck up all the presents. Unless you said that would be avoided somehow.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing everyone's works. I really enjoy Love as a theme.

A bit off topic, but can someone post in high's recommendation thread? I'm the last poster and it won't let me post, forcing me to edit. I have to recommend some nice unique entries to wrap-up December and the Winter contest.
