Urgh....they seem to be continuing the problems from the last few episode's. Ok agreed the humour from the first half of the episode was great, but then we spend the rest of the episode seeing the depressing effect on Angel.

Ok yes I did feel bad for her but as usual it has almost no impact due to the excessive amount of humour! I think they need to start cutting down on the humour a bit, and also I'm hoping soon they stop trying to do anything to Angel, it's been pretty much shown she does nothing wrong and the main characters are just coming across as complete dicks.

I'm hoping Otonashi decide's to befriend Angel or at least get to know her better, so far he appears to be the only one feeling bad for her in the group so he's not as much as a prick as everyone else is. (well TK is cool, he's just there to be epic.)

Still not loving this series as much as I want to, I'm really hoping they can do something special with this in the end..

I think the humor in this one had a good effect on the ending to be honest, you are laughing yet feeling kinda bad for Angel but kinda brushing it off and then suddenly it ends with her eating the dish she wanted, alone and in the dark. That causes you to suddenly feel pain towards her situation, more then if the entire episode was like that.

Kinda like a shock factor.

Maybe so, and I wouldn't have that much of a problem with it normally but it's the fifth episode now and it's been basically following this same formula. I'm hoping things will start picking up now and that we start to find about Otanashi's past, after all this anime is only 13 episodes long, gotta pick up the pace! (unless they plan on doing a season 2.)

I just hope that they'll keep up this more serious mood through the rest of the series. I'm not saying that they should stop the humor, but tone it down a little before it starts feeling forced.

Well, since Angel is finally more or less officially a regular student, and she will probably befriend Otonashi some more (Or the other way around. w/e) just so she can recuse him and the rest of the gang from the new bad guy.

I'm still a little confused about the whole "afterlife" concept. I mean, do you really think what Yuri said was true? Or is she entirely off? Is there a god out there somewhere waiting to get his ass handed to him? The discussion a few pages back sounded quite logical to me, but not enough for me to be convinced.

Personally I'm getting a feeling that we will never know if they are in the afterlife or not, since it seems it's not THAT big part of the story. I don't think that they'll ever get to any "God", but neither will they get any explanation to why he doesn't exist, just that if he exist, he ain't around. Some kind of purgatory perhaps, or other spiritual plane.
And since it's Key who makes the show, or more precisely Jun Maeda, i wouldn't be surprised if Otonashi / w/e girl he ends up with dies/disappear together in the end.

Well those who have memories are sure they DIED so yea if they're now alive it makes sense to call it the "afterlife". Altough like you said, pretty much everything is still a bit confusing? Who rules the place? What happens to those who are "freed"?

As for the ending, i can expect a happy one (sorta).

Well, I was referring to the discussion about the possibility that no one ever died, but instead entered a comatose state, just believing that they have died. And when they "disappear" is when they wake up from the coma. Then the entire afterlife concept would be out ruled.

Yeah, I expect a somewhat happy end too. While i think that Otonashi and the girl will disappear, I believe that they will do it together in order to not suffer from something else in the world they currently are in.
And this leads me too more references to the other suggestion, about the comatose state.
That they will somehow realize that if they disappear they'll wake up in the real world and in the real world they'll then be able to find eachother, living happily ever after.

But at the same time the coma-suggestion seems to be such a drastic change in the story that I can't really consider it a possibility. Would be cool if it turned out right.

Hm... very interesting about the comatose part...
Though I disagree because if it is comatose why there is a need to get their own regret cleansed....
I am more curios about Otonashi`s past....
Is he trully a normal student.... hm...

typically if you were dead, or even, any time during your life, there's always something you regret not doing/ or doing, so they need it to be,as you said 'cleaned'

as for Otonashi, do you really think his past is something dark, or scary?

Well, it makes me thinking that he is actually the true angel...
Though that is another of my babbling...
Seeing how he can survive in the trap and all...

WTF part in episode 5

I think there are agents of god somewhere out there and i hope Otonashi is connected to all of it somehow but how i dont really know. I also wanna see more of tk next episode.

Well, if Key do it their usual way then Otonashi probably won't turn out being the angel or something like that, there is a big possibility that he has some kind of traumatic past though. Ah well, we're almost halfway trough the series so shit must start to go down soon and then all our question will (hopefully) be answered.

They aren't sure they died, they just assumed they did. Nobody can possibly remember dying because the moment it happens, you would be dead and unable to remember it. Even if one of the characters remembers something like being hit my a truck, they wont remember dying - only the last moments before getting hit by a truck.

So....we're back at square one? Discussing the same things? I guess we should be wondering how many more episodes (disappearances?) before we get some answers to our questions.

Let's just wait and see then. We'll be all like "Haaa, i see now" by the end of this anime, so i don't really worry.

Indeed. My money's on another two or three episodes before they start revealing anything.

But that's just a wild guess, now I mostly look forward to a VN or something on this.

Well doesn't this have everything but a VN, kinda funny to me.
