Anime getting shitty?

i think it's just shitty to some people since they've watched a lot of animes before. think of it as the body searching for its usual drug. the feeling of "wanting to see what happens next" is what makes an anime grow fanbase. and as everyone knows more fanbase=more profit.

take a look at miku the vocaloid, she's got an insane number of followers for a program. reson for this is she's everyone's potential sandbox singer meaning she can play to the fans' individual tune/preference.

I mentioned her as emphasis that this 'shitty' thing is just in your head. no anime hasn't hit your benchmark yet(at least not a 4koma series.)and you should give it time. anime won't be alive today if they don't SELL. sure there are shit but that's because the plot is done before and you might have already seen that kind of plot so you can guess and when your guess is right, you lose motivation in watching it

I already heard that from you countless times on this site, sir. It would be nice if they make more shows where as the characters are in college (like in Genshiken) but, just what you said, the demographic for anime are students (high school) so, that's it.

It would be nice to break tradition and do something new and it's always a risk, but is it that they are just to scared to venture in new territories...?

The hell, you're still ranting about this shit? Try watching Accel World and Guilty Crown and tell me how "shitty" it is. Just because YOU don't like it, stop accusing anime or being shitty. Sure, there are some that are overly cliche and really needs to burn but you need to take a chill pill and watch the actual GOOD animes that came out recently. And just FYI not all the new animes are set in school. Production I.G. is coming out with a few Anime Movies and series that will be an epic hit. One of them is Momo he no Tegami and the second is 009 RE:CYBORG. They look awesome and they're not set in a school.

Maybe it's because you watch nothing but shitty anime. You know there's something called a good anime.

Well, the real problem lies on the people generalizing things, when there are plenty of other animes that isn't based in a school. Sure the school animes are a lot, but that doesn't mean they're not making those "non-school animes".
And no one is forcing anyone to watch them all. If they got bored, they should just stop watching those kind of animes, suggesting the anime industry to change itself is a far cry.

So someone saying something like "that" is just plain ignorance. It's their problem if they got bored with the school setting, not the anime.

Honestly, shitty is a very subjective matter.
What is a shitty anime to begin with?
Is it measured by the production cost,animation Quality, number of fans, ratings, budget, Characters, Soundtrack ?
It's not measurable, even though a majority dislikes a title, but there are a good number of people who liked that same title.

My comrade in the office whose nickname is archer (no kidding) likes the whole fate shabang and he is hard core on it. Space brothers looks good if only I can find the resource of watching it. Shining hearts' graphics looks very...shiny and I want to watch it too. I understand you gave these examples but still, compared to the number of anime whose setting or the characters are in high school (in w/c I doubt they actually study or I rarely see them studying. That's a cliche by the way) are still too many in number, for my latest count.

I sometimes hate it but I rarely rarely rage talk about it on how horrible the show is (clannad is the only show I up to this date, the only thing I wont forgive ever). I mostly use the word horrible than of shitty, though I tend to use the word crappy better.

Because a setting is just a setting. In this case it's just like how a plate is used to serve a food. It doesn't really mean anything significant in the end.

First of all anime like GTO and (especially) Cowboy Bebop are anime classics, some might even call them masterpieces. However, i have noticed that new anime have less production value and are more about quantity than quality. less attention to detail and poorly drawn fighting scenes, something you can notice in bleach and more obviously in pokemon (hahaha). But i do also think it is because certain manga have such a strong following that no matter how bad the animated version is, people will still watch.

isn't that because the anime started out as a manga(mostly anyway) also, please note that they pay actual people to draw and animate. think of the costs of each scene and every episode. with a tight budget, do you think they could pull off epic fighting scenes? not everyone has 20mill in their pocket you know? plus, they need to recover what they used in the anime as it was an investment for companies sponsoring for an anime.

You have a point, but i probably didn't make mine clear enough.

Even with the inflated costs and what not, production value (Plural form of production value; the combined technical qualities of the methods, materials, or stagecraft skills used in the production of a motion picture or artistic performance) seems to have decreased its not a question of money as i am sure by now production companies have all the money the need to produce great/memorable anime but they just choose not to (in some cases). Unlike movies, anime also costs less, as all the work is mostly done by computer and is not 3d. Hence, pulling of an epic fight scene will not necessarily be expensive, but more about attention to detail and artistic treatment.

So answer the question properly, i would say no. Anime has not gone shitty, but less great anime are out there. But maybe thats also because we, the audience have changed. However, i think there are several good ones still out there, in amidst all the overly-ecchi garbage.

eg: Lupin, steins;gate, Level E, Mawaru Penguindrum, Mirai Nikki, and bakuman.

to that i only have this hypothesis: no one pays much attention to detail than before. since the target of most animes are teens, there are high percentage that the majority would drop and dismiss important stuff as the small stuff. in terms of level, most of these viewers are level 1 type A. there isn't much anything that can make them inspect the anime that they're watching. for wizards(kodaka reference)they might feel it's lacking/there's a detail that went missing. you for example; you say that fight scenes aren't as great - this kind of assessment can't come from someone who just started to watch anime after 15 years.

Anime companies learn from this kind of reaction and started using them as it is cheap and profitable. A newly converted fan has potential of buying more than veterans who are picky about their items. As you say, it may no longer be about quality but about quantity. Nevertheless, this shouldn't stop us. We've come a long way so it wouldn't be right to just drop it and call it shitty for a minuscule reason.

Thats true. I personally havent been putting as much time into watching anime as i used to, but its not as if i have given up watching it all together. Its just that i can see why the guy has posted this question. As a whole i think most companies nowadays focus on animated anime not so much the hand drawn style of the past anymore, thats what i personally miss. But i would take new anime over most american tv shows/sitcoms any day.

What I do not understand is why do people stand behind "the majority of anime watchers are students thus most anime should be about high school or kids around their age." I am sure most people here started watching anime due to some show that was not about students or characters their age.(I could be wrong) I started watching anime like Captain Harlock, DBZ, Appleseed, and Iria: Zeiram.

Also how is a school the easiest place to set a story? Is that just for anime? This way of thinking makes me feel like it is going to limit how animes are going to be created.

For me it's because if the viewer/reader is a student, it's easier to relate to and easier to admire. It's the part of someone's life that let's them dream of becoming something like this or someone like that - along these lines actually. Also, I remember my highschool teacher saying that being a highschool student is better than being a college student. That in itself is worth investing especially in an anime. Since the characters are in highchool, there are tons of ideas where a fan can form his/her fantasy. In short, it's like clay - there's already a material and the only thing to make it better is for you to give it form. That's the pull of school-themed anime.

A combination of both hand art and CG is what they call a masterpiece. Look at Fate/Zero. Ufotable knows what they're doing. I love the traditional style but you should know that anime is a form of art and art evolves with time. Try looking and comparing the styles of 40 years ago and now. You'll see huge differences. Now the art is more refined and of higher quality. Art is one of the main focus as it is the first thing people would see. You just have to get used to it.

"This TV anime season in Japan seems shitty!" is a more believable statement, and might be truly what you're looking to say. Saying all anime is "getting shitty" might be chewing off more than you can bite. I won't even get into the statistically-deep analysis how I doubt you've watched x percent of anime during the past, and x percent anime of the recent to make a real comparison - and how you would even compare them. So to keep it simple:

Everyone looks for different things in anime. I am pretty sure this sentiment is not a mystery to anyone. Some anime which you think has the perfect characters, plot, and animation might not be that great to another.

Does that mean the anime might be "bad"? What does that even mean? Seriously, who cares if the anime to the "general populous" (who is that exactly anyway?) might not be considered "good"? All that matters is you are enjoying what you are watching. That is right, if you are watching anime, and you are entertained - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

I watch what I like, and I don't watch what I don't like. If somebody thinks an anime is bad, they should simply avoid watching it. Trying to argue why x, y, or z are "good" or "bad" will get you waist-deep in personal opinion (this might or might not be what you're after).

It is, and their considering to make a 2nd season of it. It was even a surprise for Sunrise themselves, who actually assigned the project to the "weakest" team in Sunrise.
Besides that, the money from the sponsors also helped the budget.

There's also 2 movies planned for Tiger and Bunny.

As I already said, I was wrong with thread theme and my initial sayings.
I thought a little, did some research and...

First of all, you gotta realize that anime in general is shit. It's not getting shitty, nor was it ever good. It's shit. (Of course there are a few exceptions here and there that falls into category "animated series\animated movie" but exceptions are exceptions)
When you will get over all those "intellectual" and "conceptual" 'not for everyone' titles (Lain, Texhnolyze, Mononoke, etc) that are aimed at exited young schoolboys you will realize what anime really is, and what it's all about. About boobs and panties and shit.
That realization comes with hitting around 200-300 watched titles. That all anime is a repetative shit, always leaving a feeling that you've seen this a hundred times. There is no "secret messages", nor anime is divine enlightenment, it's just what it is a business dedicated to making money out of complexed otakus.
Not that it's a bad thing, it's just business.
