Anime getting shitty?

Almost all new titles are unwatchable. It's a sad fact.
If you deny it you are just young(it's okay), or a animefag/weaboo(that's worse).
At first I thought that problem is in me(overwatched too much).
Jokes are funny, animation is top-notch, and chars are somewhat interesting. But combine these AND IT'S UNWATCHABLE. Completely.
But then I re watched GTO and Cowboy Beebop and no vomiting ensued. That proves it - new titles = shit.
Anime(and manga too if you think into it) is either already dead or having near-death seizures. We should leave it alone for some time. And maybe then it'll become good again.

For example let's take Ben-tou.
Characters - Ok i guess
Animation - Fine
Story - Fine for comedic plot but it just pisses me off because:
A) Author doesn't know fuck about ACTUAL FIGHT FOR FOOD;
B) Some stupid fuck who lives his good life and didn't had any trouble and food shortage makes this a plot base just.. eh.

Even that story issues aside, that show itself is nigh unwatchable. Mostly because it's FUCKING TERRIBLE. It looks and sounds decent when it's taken apart but when all-together it just makes me sick.

Yeah, I kind of noticed that about most new anime, myself. A lot of the newer ones that come out don't seem to catch my interest much, and I always find myself re-watching the older ones I loved over and over again. x3 One of the new-ish ones that I enjoy watching though is Ookami-San. It was release 2 years ago, but it's one of the better ones I've seen so far. The way it starts off was kind of boring to me, but as I continued to watch, it got better as it went along. I also am liking the Persona 4 anime.

Although I do like Tiger and bunny from last year.That was a good one.

I wonder when was the last time someone said , "Anime is stagnating". Because honestly you're not alone in thinking that, but is it really? Or is it just possible that society itself is changing and anime is just being developed to suit that younger society.

Your example, Ben-to is a good example of a modern anime. CBebop and GTO too were both good examples of good animes back in those old days. But will a similar anime sell in today's current market? Honestly, no they won't. The younger generation today demands something entirely different and they just won't care much about yesterday's genre that's why anime these days are filled with "moe" and ecchi. Ask yourself, has anyone created a shrine for Faye Valentine and worshiped her the same way some freaky otakus worship Azusa from K-on nowadays? None. Creepy as it is, this is where the money is because this is what this generation prefers. Sometimes our preferences crosses with their preferences and every now and again a good anime that suits both generations will come out but the fact stays that we are now the minority and they are the majority so more animes will come out to suit their needs.

With that said I am against comparing "old" anime to "new" animes because society's standards before are different to the standards now. For example you can compare Bebop to Trigun because they're from the same era, made in the same standards but comparing Fate/Zero to Bebop is entirely different much more comparing Ben-to to Bebop. I'm not saying it's bad to feel bad about the change in anime but I don't think it's right to judge something as 'shit' just because it's not what you are used to. I'm not sure if it will be 'better' but you're right that if we wait more it will change. It may not be to suit you or me but the next generation and hopefully it will be similar to that taste which you were used to.

Most anime sucks balls from all era's. You just got to find the diamonds from the shit. Cowboy Bebop was good but the current playlist on nigger swim and my boredom kill the series to the point of it being shitty. There some gems in the current seasons like persona, nikki, and that about it for me. Fate/fail is possible choice but my loving hate of the weebfan boys two years ago keep me from watching it.. the manga is tight.

That would be exactly why people think anime is getting "shitty". I think that also may be why anime's are getting 13 episodes in their first season. Its cheaper to test the water of the market before committing.

If you are looking for "diamonds in the rough" then you would find more if you went looking for manga and light novels (LN's). Both are MUCH cheaper to produce than anime and most anime come from them anyways. Anime and movies are more of a showcase of what is hot right now, or when they were green-lit anyways. Anime based on these also have a tendency to, sometimes unintentionally, leave out some of the best parts. For example, a writing or narration style may not carry to an anime.

"Moe" is a fad. It will disappear eventually or fall to another fad. Like you said, OP, if you leave it, it will change. If it bothers you that much just go to mangafox, sort all the manga by name. Start with .hack or whatever is first on the list and read. You can read 50 pages of manga or so in less time than the 25 minutes of an anime episode.

Because like music only the good stuff is remembered while the shit stuff fades away in time.

Yep that's about it, there has always been shitty anime, we just don't remember it because no one wanted to remember it.

In my opinion also a "just" ecchi anime w/ good animation but lacks plot is shitty... I mean they only worth watching for people who loves anime by "moe" "ecchi/hotness" factor of the characters and doesn't care what ever the story is...

I don't want in the future that the measurement of a good anime is on how will dicks react to the characters....

Anime is the same as literature in todays era. You have shit like Twilight flying around because ignorant folks love shitty love stories with bad writing. Well the anime industry is the same. You have many people demanding moe shit like K-On and those stuffs. The problem is, you already have childrens shows covering that, and now its getting over done.

Take example Aquarion and Aquarion EVOL. In Aquarion EVOL, everyone's boobs are 3 times bigger than Tsugumi who has the largest chest in the first series. Not saying that is bad, but really, there is no need for everyone to have massive boobs.

lol I guess they are trying to make a sexy and bouncy impression on the combine/fusion SOUSEI GATTAI!!! GO AQUARION!!! nude feeling since they are also trying to captivate viewers who liked them big and the ecchi factor that this new gen of animes are applying.

But I definitely agree with you they made it unnecessarily big as or greater than Tsugumi. I guess last time the that matters is the epic GATTAI!!! and Fighting mechas that changes color, attack, leader, the main and enemy boss of the week, and ofc the finisher. Its great since you wont get tired of watching voltes V laser sword to finish an enemy for 50 eps lol...

It's not the anime that's getting shitty, it's your taste that can't adapt to the new ideas.

Current animes are just adapting to the "demand" of something new and original, and in result these new kinds are the ones that can make some profit. So because of that anime producers will stick to that formula for a while until there's something new that can make a profit.

In the end question, "Would you like to watch something new that is VERY similar to Bebop/Trigun or would you rather go back and watch the original?"

This world is seriously strange. People keep on mentioning "They want something new/original" but when they don't like it they'll blame on the fact it isn't like the "old ones"... logic lol

Back in the early days of anime, people looked for story and substance. Masterpieces like the UC versions of Gundam and Cowboy Beebop or Ghost in the Shell were always critically acclaimed and are revered as the legacies of the golden age that has ended.

Mainstream tastes nowadays are leaning towards moe and cuteness/ecchi, which sacrifices story and substance in the process. Simply put, we now live in a world where male hormones run rampant, a world that has abandoned reason for sexual gratification. Don't get me wrong I do like my occasional doses of moe but sooner or later I get tired of that and start to look towards REAL masterpieces.

Masterpieces IMO tier:
EVA, From Universal Century Gundams to Turn A, Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Berserk, Dirty Pair, Golden Boy perhaps?? Cowboy Beebob, Bubblegum Crisis, Galaxy Express 999, Cardcaptor Sakura (fairly good story and character moeness is a bonus), Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and MUCH more

Personally hated/Braindead tier:
Denpa-Onna to Seishun Otoko, True Tears, Ikkitousen, Ben-To, WORKING! and A LOT more.

Gintama Tier:
Gintama

Could have been good tier:
All major shonen/filler-ridden, Elfen-Lied, Claymore, Air Gear, Deadman Wonderland (too short) and much more

You have to admit... there some subpar animes out there. Haterade aside.

Well, I never did say that all of them are good. But it is true that personal taste is a main factor.

I keep changing and adapting my taste, that's why I can watch some of those "sub-par" animes, even though it won't receive high marks from me, But anime getting shitty = no.

The only shitty anime that I witnessed recently is "Gun-Dou Musashi".


Others are just not suitable to my taste, or just bored with the genre.

Good animation, moe/hot characters, crap story... is just too sad for the new gen trend... still happy that there are still diamonds in out new animes

I find it sad that people are now dropping the 'You're to young and you're in denial' for having an opinion and different taste. i like old anime and new anime but you're making yourself sound extremely senile.

i won't lie, there are more bad anime than good in this current era, but there's bad anime in EVERY era.
