[Anime] Muv-Luv: Total Eclipse

TSF animation is top-notch as ever, but I can't help but notice the increasing derp-y at some point.


Go Yui go, show them how it's done. Although personally, I understand how Yuuya feels. Being shat on all his life because of being Japanese does not make it easy to work with them, especially given Yui's YAMATO DAMASHII bullcrap attitude at times. And he really is good at maneuvering TSFs. The original Raptor prototypes were nearly unpilotable save for this guy. However, as Vincent pointed out, Japan (and rest of the world, really), have vastly different design philosophies and tactics then the U.S of A. Another point is that America generally lacks understanding of anti-BETA tactics, given that they never fight their own battles, and most of experienced U.S pilots are actually expats anyway. It's not something that you can jump over in a few days.

Still, I'm now hoping for that awesome showdown between Top Gun and Yui, along with some hot-blooded shouting and recollections. And the good 'ol on-hands teaching approach.


Good to see KGB is still doing well at the end of the world. The officer's boast about power of Soviet Union was hilarious though, given that Soviet Union is now a leased part of Alaska and Kamchatka. Very powerful indeed comrade. Why don't you go and beg America for some more help while I take this uh, up the chain of command?

Also, Inia takes the jailbait definition a little too close to heart. But that's okay, I guess.

The shower scene wasn't as amusing as I hoped it'd be.

Is she just bitching Yuya or she is raising him to be a good pilot and not depending on a machines capabilities? I mean trying to bitch him for having a shitty attitude wont fix their problems...

Personally, I think it's a little of both: she wants Yuuya to master Japanese TSFs as soon as it's possible, and given his not entirely small ego, bitching on him might just get the job done. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure she's venting her frustration with Yuuya being definitely unenthusiastic about working with her and being definitely "un-Japanese" (which is a big point since Japanese Imperialism and nationalistic crap are very much alive in Alternative), and having been forced to seek help from Americans.

There's also the fact Yuuya had absolutely none live combat experience, which Yui seems to find more then a little problematic, given her mission and past.



....Or it could be just a massive case of unresolved sexual tension.

Basically, Japan and it's Co-Prosperity Sphere (called Far Eastern Alliance because of all the media taboo) surrendered to Americans, and was largely allowed to remain intact. Shogunate also continued to exist to present day, though towards 2000s, the Shogun has increasingly smaller control over his/her government in same manner as the Emperor.

Nukes were dropped on Berlin instead.

European Union was created earlier due to various hijinks between NATO members and the U.S, and China was the first nation to go when BETAs invaded Earth. They were effectively wiped out, though a reminder of their military is still trying to hold out (Taiwan is also untouched, mainly due to U.S presence) and they play some role in Total Eclipse.

America itself is also the pinnacle of logical, but incredibly dickish trolling. They basically pull "Screw This, We're out of Here" after Fall of Kyoto, essentially abandoning Japan when it needed their help the most and effectively rendering the whole defense treaty thing null. They also dropped most of their nuclear arsenal on Canada. To kill a BETA Hive, mind you, but they didn't warn either Canadian people or Canadian government. Suffice to say, Canada really hates the U.S (and in another Alternative Timeline, they actually go to war with the States together with France...and are apparently winning.)

U.S is also prone to making really fucking stupid strategic decisions like adopting F-22A Raptor for its next-gen TSF, which is worse in Anti-BETA combat then its contender, the YF-23 Black Widow II, and whose stealth capacity clearly indicates American willingness to engage other human forces just as entire species is about to get exterminated. The American back-up plan also revolves on using massive arsenal of completely unknown superweapons - and not even their creators know how they really work.

On the other hand, most of reminder of Mankind lives within United States (including an absolutely massive amount of refugees, which make current migrant problem look fairly small-time), so U.S victory is essentially one for mankind.

Also, Japan itself is fairly full of assholes themselves, they just don't have the power to pull of the things America does.

And there's the whole deal about Soviets being granted leased territory in Alaska.

More of Yuuya's endless bitching about how hard it is to pilot his machine. But of course, that somehow means he's mastering it...okay then. At least that fight with Lt. Awesome was pretty sweet. Especially owning that little loudmouth bitch like it was nothing.

I think it's less of Yuuya bitching, but more about "If I could pilot all these super-American science badass third-tier motherfuckers, why can't I pilot a lowly frontline unit? IF I'M PRESSING ALL THE CORRECT BUTTONS, WHY DOESN'T IT WORK"

And his point about Shiranui is pretty valid, since it's ridiculous to construct super-advanced machines that only few can pilot when you're backed against the wall during the war. On the other hand, Japanese pilot curriculum is implied to be much better then American will ever be, because how America sits on its ass and everything.

Vincent is a bro. 'Nuff said.

Terminator is bloody glorious. I want to see more of it. Especially that chainsaw knives feature it has.

Feeling a little bit threatened Yui? I do admit, it's a unique way of motivating people, but it really relies on counting on Yuuya not punching you in the face with powered armor (which is what those suits really are).

And:

1.)You, me. Armored Core 3 arena. I call dibs on MiG-29OVT, you go and pick whichever TSF you want.

2.)Can you bear my children?

She really wiped the floor with Argos. Although, I do think Yuuya have done much better then people might give him credit for, given that Takemikazuchi is kinda like Japanese Raptor. Shiranui is not really capable of matching up to it, unless you're a very, very good pilot. Of course, If Yui really wanted to kill him, he wouldn't walked out of this one.

And the battle looked really gorgeous. Especially dancing-on-the-lake part.


Doing very well so far, I just hopes it can keep up.

I don't like how he's looking at that mech.

Just so you know, this put so many subtexts into Vincent's little speech...basically, Yuuya is learning to "ride" Shiranui...and while at it, he "rides" Yui. And if he "masters it", he can become more "powerful" and match other pilots....yeah, this is definitely based off eroge.

So...TSF sex? ShiranuixTakemikazuchi paring, with their pilots being feel all hot and bothered about it. And Terminator being a closet voyeur about it.


On a little serious note though, I think it's mentioned somewhere that U.N has pretty few rules against fraternization, since it helps to keep morale up. Plus, pregnant women are a strategic resources in itself by this point.
