Pessimist we may be, but to a lot of people, R2 became something of a trainwreck. I'm not optimistic about this release either.

The only surprising thing about it is that they waited this long. Guess the sales of the existing Geass franchise must have dropped. Fail or not I'm still gonna watch/read/whatever it for CC and something to bitch about.

Well i for one can't wait for it's release as well it not only give us a glimps into C.C's past but it's give some at the end like a history repeats it's self kind of thing

It sounds very interesting for me, as for the era thing, not about the characters.

Having a mixed feeling about this.. hm..
Although while I'm a huge CG fan, the premise of this new series is... kind of lame I guess? I was kind of hoping for the sequel (I know that unless they pull off enough 'wow' factors, this won't be possible), and this new character... looks lame. Kind of like Suzaku trying to be a badass?

and this is exactly what I'm thinking.
Also, the art looks like it had gone a whole lot of revision.. Especially C.C. She looks kind of... wrong.
However, CG almost always managed to surprise me, so I'm hoping Sunrise will manage to do the same again.
PS: The long-haired man (I'm presuming it's Lelouch of this era) looks strikingly similar to cross-dressed Lelouch in one of picture dramas of CG R2.

Tempering fan enthusiasm is uncertainty over the release schedule (it is not clear whether it will actually be released in 2010), and more importantly over the direction the story is likely to take considering the conclusive events of the anime.
Fans ponder whether the project will take the form of an Evangelion-style alternative remake, a purely character-based spinoff, or another narrative somehow fitting into the events of the original, or even rewriting it.

Perhaps I have been browsing anime-related sites far too much. Some people have suggested the above because the last episode of Gundam 00 had some characters flying off to an unknown planet... did i get it wrong?

I kind of heard something along the same lines but I just can't seem to accept nor make any sense of it.
The whole "rumor" started because Code Geass still has so many mysteries in it. In particular concerning Jupiter. Many times we see the "Red Eye" of Jupiter (the everlasting storm that's on Jupiter) and it's always connected to some geass related effect (Sword of Akasha, C.C.'s mental attacks etc.
This related to how Gundam 00 ended in the last episode of the series:

With that being said, I think this new series won't be any good if anyone starts comparing it with the original Code Geass. They are obviously going for some sort of Spin off with characters ressembling the ones from CG.
Bottomline, It will probably be a passable anime and that's about it. I really hoped it would have been a follow up of the series, or a few OVA episodes. A third season was always from the start not possible due to the ending of the original series. Either way I will watch it but I don't expect anything grandiose from it.

I've rewatched both seasons of CG a few days ago and only after reading your post I've confirmed that it's (probably) Jupiter in the world of C.
Seeing a few shots of a planet to make up a basis for this... crazy I say.
