Why do people hate Dubs so much..?

Every dub I've seen, i've enjoyed and haven't had much problem with it at all compared to the Japanese version (except for the original naruto that sucked anyway).

If a studio puts an honest effort into making the dub, you can tell. There are plenty of good dubs out there, and plenty with shoddy voicework. It all depends on who's in charge and how good they are at it.

Personally, I enjoy the original voiceovers, but that's because that's how I first watched most of my shows.

I've said this in a thread before but...

I'd rather watch something as it was meant to be watched rather than watching an alternate version of it. With a lot of English dubs there's just no effort or emotion put into their voice acting as there is with Japan and their big voice acting industry. There are some alright dubs, but I dislike most of them. Whether or not you watch things like Family Guy or the Simpsons, imagine how unfunny they would seem to us in a different language. The original voice actors, in any type of animation, were picked for a reason: to convey a type of character. Watch things are they are meant to be watched.

Most of the time it's the pronunciation of Japanese words, particularly names, that really pisses me off.

If you're telling me you enjoy dubs like this then you've got a serious problem:

Ugh....you got me there...that show wasn't exactly fun to watch in japanese and damn sure was depressingly boring in english...

I love Lucky Star. But I don't appreciate what they did by giving them English voices. People are lazy and can't be bothered to read subtitles - that should encourage them to be open minded and learn a new language. You learn to read the subtitles AND still see most of the animation, by becoming a quicker reader.

The only benefit of dubbing anime is that it lets a series be released overseas, and I appreciate that they give you the Japanese option.

Anyway, I personally like dubs, good dubs anyway, if a show has a good dub that's how I'll watch it (Cowboy Bebop, Baccano) if the dubs just okay I'll still probably watch it (FLCL, Evangelion), but if the dub is... lacking I'll just go for sub (Higurashi,Elden Lied). Also if I'm reading subs all the time I feel like I'm missing something. Dubbing companies have been putting out pretty damn good dub in recent years so I really don't see the problem anymore, I also love when a show I watched in Japanese gets a dub, seeing other peoples take on the characters is something I love.

Well, there are some animes that are easier to dub, and one that aren't easy to dub. If an anime has too much Japanese elements in it, dubbing it becomes hard because its the very foreign nature of the speech and puns are lost. On the other hand, if you see those Japanese or Brazilian dubs of American shows you'd think they aren't that good either. Translations are almost always inferior to the original because meaning is always lost in translation. There are some good dubs, but most dubs are simply not that good. Like for instance, I watched a Chinese bootleg of Harry Potter 6 and it was absolutely horrible, not because the voices were bad (because they actually fit the characters) but because it just sounds so awkward when English dialogue is spoken in Chinese.

Though I must say, Black Lagoon is a good example of a dub, because the characters are already speaking English.

IMO, I think most dubs sound horrible and the voices are off.
I also think dubs make anime sound cheesier.
I did enjoy a couple dubs though.

I don't know, however for me it's whatever I saw first. If I watched it in Japanese first then that's how I would have to hear it and so on.

So true. I've noticed that Netflix has put a few of their shows (like Naruto and InuYasha) in subtitles despite dubs existing for them. I was so thankful.

There are a decent handful of talented English-speaking Anime VA's out there, but slightly more often than not, dubbed versions suck.

I really like Vic Mignona. He's so... exciteable.

I for one enjoy dubs, I'd rather listen and watch stuff on screen, than read, listen to a foreign language and miss everything on screen. And really, alot of dubs are not that bad. I like ALOT of english voice actors (David Matranga, Tomoya Okasaki, Luci Christian, Nagisa Furukawa, Steve Blum, Travis Willingham, and of course, Troy Baker), and even crappy dubs (lucky star) I'd rather watch in my native tongue

Some are okay, but ones like Sailor Moon ruined it for me. I nearly flipped when I rewatched some of the english dub versions, because I use to think it was so great... it didn't take me long to realize my childhood was a lie (TTmTT)

Dubs just don't fit in with usual Japanese banter and chat, combat/shounen, perhaps, but for slice of life,ecchi, and anything to do with moe it just sounds like some washed up show for children and makes the whole cast of characters sound like creeps.

Try watching a dub of fate/stay night and decide for yourself.

The only dub I enjoyed was for Eureka 7.
Shit was better than the original.

Dubs arent so bad its just that i find only a few decent ones around.

as long as the setting isnt in japan/uses heavy japanese slang/or they just drop the whole cutesy Dubs can be good since Western/Fantasy and Sci-fi dubs sounds good for example: Gundam Wing Dub sounds good and is no way inferior to the original japanese voice, Seed wasnt bad in their dubs either as for 00 i cant say i liked the dub too much since Tierias voice made me go WTF, Zoids Chaotic Century and New Century doesnt sound bad either though Fuzors Voice acting is meh (--,)

though i will never like 4kids for screwing the yugioh franchise so much, damn fucking idiots ruining the whole GX series *facepalm*

If the dubbers don't get the emotion that the original dub gives, I don't like it.

I drew a line, and that line states that dubs are just no good. Not only you lose your cultural references, jokes, some puns, and the likes - 80~90% of dubs currently available for anime is just horrid.

Now try to watch CSI in Portuguese and Indonesian and let me know if you hated it. It's just isn't what it's meant to be watched.

It removes Moe from Moe anime.

What I'm trying to point out is that it removes the feel of the video, anime or live action, killing the purpose of what it should be.
