Hey what's up guys? I have a couple projects I'm trying to get done, but lately have found my ability to write kind of dry.

Listen to some music? It really helps me out to get some inspiration ready~

Another way to gather inspiration for me is by playing some nice games with interesting concepts =D

The rest is probably similar to many of you guys here, reading some manga / doujins, watching my favorite anime series or just looking up some movies out there~

It's all about deadlines! Set yourself some, post em up, and pressure yourself! Well... at least it's working for me and keeping up with the zombie RP lol.

On a serious note though, if you try and regularly write, it helps a lot. If once a day is too much, then make it once every 2 days, or once a week. Pacing is important, especially with bigger projects where you might run out of steam... I would know...

One thing that helps for me is to talk about it with others to make me think about it. It's a fanfiction-esque story that some friends and I have on a seperate forum. So, to help get me to write stuff, my friends would pick a character out of a line-up, like a fighting game and I would write a short chapter involving my character and the one selected.

So, this one involves my character teaming up with Sailor Venus and I'm planning for this to be my character meeting the Sailor Senshi (Jupitor being married to the character of one my friends on the site, but my character doesn't know she's Sailor Jupitor)

Hmmm...haven't been into Fanfictions that much so I don't really understand, but it seems like a pretty nice idea =)

Anyway I plan on creating a Story thread to compile all my future one shots and short stories whether any of you guys wanna read it or not hahahahahahaha...

Try writing a relay story with Leonard267 or anyone else really. (I am being half serious here.) If you happen to be familiar with my style of writing (click any of the links in my sig), I think you may be able to be inspired in ways you don't want to be inspired. Nonetheless, mingling with other people is the best place to get ideas.

Ah yeah that will definitely be a problem for general academic purposes when the lecturers prefer things that were written in an 'overly' formal manner~

Well you could just write whatever that come to mind and then edit it as you go to make it look a bit 'formal' to the extent that it will at least be somewhat acceptable by them~

I think most lecturers would like that kind of academical-style approach. It doesn't really have to be textbooks, some of your favorite scientific journals could also count =)

Hm... I usually pick stuff up from sample writing like high was saying. I read an academic journal and I copy and paste their structure, style, and word choice. It's very effective and helpful if you can dissect how they write and why they write that way.

^ Agreed. I think some of the articles from my Cesspit attempts to imitate formal writing styles. But really this is a product from reading too much non-fiction. Use passive tones as much as possible.

For example, "I am relieving my bowels" would be written as "Defecation occured".
