Are Mecha a feasible alternative to tanks.

I always thought Gundams were designed with Sexy first, Replication second?

Armored Core, Mechwarrior, Heavy Gear, Zone of the Enders, Steel Batallion...those are feasible.

Gundams would need some sort of major love child between diamonds and titanium for it's chassis, a micronized nuclear/fission reactor, and some massive boosters to be effective.

I think the gundams keep themselves together (and stupifyingly tough at the same time) using an electromagnetic generator which keeps the vehicle from shaking apart, which would explain why in about mid series the Wing gundam got it's leg blown off in one shot, since it had already stood it's ground against an entire army and didn't have the ability to zip around the battle field anymore. The Gundanium is just a material that allows them to do this without disturbing the electronics in the vehicle.
EDIT: titanium is it's own metal, and tanks use materials tougher than titanium, depleted uranium is what modern tanks use because it is dense(admittedly there is layers of materials but the one used for absorbing the most impact is DU.)
EDIT EDIT: the gundams use miniature nuclear reactors...now unless someone breaches the core (even then not so much) it poses no danger to anyone in the area, the only danger it does pose to people wandering around is radiation poisoning, and I imagine the have found a way or two around that, otherwise they would be too dangerous to operate in combat.

It's that low-survivability that makes it sow manly. Gundams have perpostorous amounts of testosterone....Perposterone!

When Nuclear reactors go critical, they don't "explode" per say its more like they make everything in a 5+ mile radius radioactive, and there is a steam explosion involved but the primary materials themselves do not explode. The level of damage required to make this happen is very specific, you need to do enough to cause the water from moving while not making it lose pressure. With that said (who knew having a friend who worked on nuclear submarines would come in handy, however he knows way more than I do) Gundam pilots have better survival chances than anyone else in their universe, because they are badasses compared to the rest of their world, and because they are wrapped in the toughest materials around. A nuclear reactor is less likely to explode in a fireball than any other type of engine.

EDIT: after the water explodes the area is still going to melt because the fuel is still freaking hot.

I think the problem with modern bipedal robots (besides the power core) is the fact that they move SLOW. Hydraulics can only do so much, and I'm hoping that in the very near future scientists in R&D can develop synthetic muscle similar to the way M-9 Greenbacks from Full Metal Panic! operate on. Then all the weight/movement problem would be solved.

Then we have to find an actual alien meat which would be kind of impossable. And I don't consider EVA a mech, more of a biological monster.

Yeah Eva units were not very mechanical, there was more machine in Raxephon than there was in an Eva.

i believe right now and in the near future tanks would totally own mechs but all mechs need a small,portable and large power source, a quick reacting but strong skeletal system and an anti-RPG/Missile system

Anti-RPG/missile systems are available, for small arms anyhow. The biggest issue is still weight though.

yeah i agree with you on that part too but serious i cant wait until mechs become funtional but that would also suck because of the rich dumbasses of this world selling them then seeing them on the streets would totally suck

No, modern vehicles have these neat little things you can attach to the outside of your armor, they detect incoming high-speed -large caliber ordinance (missiles and RPGs and certain types of shell), when one comes in range they detonate what amounts to a claymore mine, destroying the ordinance, vehicles with that upgrade never have infantry around them, it's too dangerous.
