And this is why SD is a complete joke. 90% of users have no idea what they're on about.
I'm relatively certain that you received negative reputation because of the way you barged into the thread and called people retarded. You only explained your position after (what appears to be) pressure from other users.
That being said, I discussed this over with some of the other moderators and we came to the agreement you should tone down being super rude to others outside of IB. I'd been avoiding intervention for a while, but let's just say that a lot of users are unhappy with you.
However, I do see where you are coming from:

Actually, what I'm saying is that because of the economic crisis, there is no practical use for the 'god particle' outside the military (who could afford it)
People will just say "Oh, cool!" and move on their attention to something else.
It's like sending a space probe to explore outside our solar system. Sure, it's a great scientific feat, but it doesn't change things at home, and most cannot afford to appreciate it.
That is all.

I'm pretty sure developing the newest 'atom-bomb' is not a good thing for the world, but whatever floats your boat.
Nuclear energy had non-violent purposes too, but if we look at history, politicians are more interested in weapons. As a believer in nuclear technology, I'm actually tired of bureaucrats misusing the science.
And Higgs Boson sounds more like nuclear energy each day. We merely need to look at the past to look at the future. I don't want to see another Hiroshima.
Lishy, these two posts make you sound incredibly ignorant and a bit wishy-washy. The Higgs Boson is a means of proving String Theory. Discoveries pertaining to fundamental mechanics of physics are on a completely different scale than sending a probe into deep space. To compare the two would be kind of ridiculous.
Additionally, nuclear energy is sort of a big deal. Nuclear energy was also first harnessed as a destructive weapon, and for many years that was the only practical application of it. You also should
really not use 'nuclear weapons' and 'nuclear energy' interchangeably once you have differentiated the two.

I didn't say it won't affect society, I said it won't benefit society.

This however, doesn't mean that
all scientific discoveries lead to new technology. To make such a claim would be logically fallacious, due to
Hasty generalization.
Wouldn't it be fallacious to say it
won't benefit society as well?

but the higgs boson itself doesn't seem to benefit society.
No, but the discovery of the electron didn't directly benefit society either.
