Is Peace only an illusion?

Now with the current conflicts i began to wonder is peace only an illusion?
Is it something we humans only strives for?
Much like the Buddhists seek nirvana.
Is it the end result we're hoping for?

For countries peace cost more then war, during war countries like Usa, Sweden and Russia prowide both sides a high selection of different war equipment (Guns, tanks, planes etc.) with make them rich.
But during peace it costs an awful lot of money to have an army, that doesn't do any thing.
So my question is "Do you think that peace is only an illusion?"

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. Conflict drives change, and change brings advances in science and technology. That can never be something to be scoffed at.

I don't think we'll find true peace anywhere! (Except space)

The only moment this world will ever attain true peace will be the final moments of civilization. We will all be at peace as, standing together, we watch the nuclear bombs stream towards our country. The skies will light a bright orange as everyone's shadow is burnt to the ground.

Honestly to get peace there will be war. Hence war is peace. But there will never truly be peace. The world will never hold hands and sing songs of joy. Because someone somewhere will not agree with the joy.

There will never be peace. The universe by default is chaotic according to the Laws of Thermodynamics. Just like the animal world where every day is a struggle to live, it's the same for humans. It's also the reason why Communism works. As long as there is inequality, there will be struggle. When there is inequality, there is no motivation which leads to collapse of society leading to anarchism which is also conflict. In order to sort out anarchism, there must be a government which enforces inequality bring us right back to the beginning.

Peace can only be achieved when pure trust is obtained, which can never be obtained because people always will be cynical of others or abuse trust. Also, peace can only be obtained, with the death of everyone, or the control of everyone.

Peace won't arise by itself, it can only be forced. What happens when two people are born, both wanting everything in the world for each of themselves? That's just not possible, so a third person is born that physically forces them to be unable to pursue their desire. Much peace keeping is worked into governments. They resolve these kinds of issues by force of law.

If you look at the ancient states of China before they were unified, you saw lots of war because of competition for resources. It was only until every state was unified that conflict could be forcibly stopped. Now they organized as one people and the wars of the old states cease to exist.

Hopefully we can unify the nations without war by somehow creating a system that will mediate every nation's problems with another.

Curret situation reminds me more and more George Orwell 1984: War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strenght. Look at USA today they are at war for more than 10yrs now and mass media still call it military conflict or security assistance. In future there will be no difference between peace and war.

It's either war or long term cease-fire.
An extended cease-fire is now-a-days called peace.

There will never be permanent peace.
To obtain peace you must force it with war.
The losing side will always hold a grudge though.

At the end of WW1 there was a "peace" treaty with Germany.
Then WW2 happened with Germany being one of the main players.

In WW1 about 35 million military and civilians died.
In WW2 about 60 million military and civilians died.
Thats the cost of a temporary peace.

I think i just thought up a sentence that covers up everything this topic is all about!

That said, Peace is something made-up by mankind, a dream world where everybody want equally and gives equally.
Something Lenin never 100% accomplished.

I wonder, like in Code Geass, if the world was united against a common enemy and that enemy was defeated, how long would that peace last?

I believe an eternal presence of peace is rather impossible, only brief intervals of it. Even if every nation somehow managed to achieve peace with each other, there will always be a lone or organized, terrorist group that will seek destruction no matter their convictions.

Cavemen vs. Cavemen - - only the weapons has changed. Peace can only happen when everybody is dead.
No questions , No war , No fear.

Many small bursts of peaceful interaction are what matters. One cannot achieve absolute peace between all people.

also, IMO as long as there is a scarcity of resources there will be no peace. that's why "Peace" is just another fairytale that even adults believe, at least most of them.
but such thing is nonsense, since everything we have is limited, thus we must fight for it. the world where there is an unlimited resources for anyone is what we called "Utopia" so "Peace" is only another "Utopia"
