Should cigarettes/tobacco be illegal?

I said "people around you" cause you can still do it at home. It's applied for those people who have a family.

Why does it have to always be radical with non smokers , why can't you just ask them to go smoke outside ? They are your family , if they can't go smoke outside for you then they are egoïst fucks and don't care abouth you and therefor you should not stay with this person . If you don't then it's your choice to risk getting cancer too . Unless you are a kid then you can't do that , that's why maybe instead of banning completly cigarrettes we could pass a law that makes it illegal to smoke in a house with a person under 18 living in it .

See , there's many other solutions than banning completly cigarrettes .

You're contradicting yourself. Earlier you stated that you wouldn't mind if smoking was prohibited in public places. Now let's say that you live in a flat, and have no outdoor-surrounding private place, where would you go?

So far your only solution has been to tell people to avoid smokers, and that's not so easily done. We are everywhere.

As someone who smokes, I can see why some non-smokers would like to see smoking banned, but it is also up to the individual to choose whatever they want to do with their bodies. I strongly believe in the decriminalization of every and all substances, because in the end it's up to you to choose what to put in your body. Of course, along side this comes responsibility and being able to stand for the consequences of your actions.

Sorry i didn't express myself corectly , by public places i meant public buldings like hopitals , schools , supermarket ect ... (here in canada you can't smoke in public buildings and need to be at least at 3 meters from the doors ) Smoking in the street is alright or just outside your house , the chances someone get cancer from passing near you is so small it's negligible .

Fair enough, the discussion here in Swede-land has been about banning cigarettes have included a 50-meter distance from all living quarters as well as in proximity to all public buildings and transport.

I'm a smoker and I knew the risks of smokeing before I started, you can say what you will but tobacco will never be banned or outlawed.

Maybe you already heard about clove cigarettes. A mix between tobacco, cloves, and some spices from Indonesia. It was found during the 18th-19th century at Java. Because normal white cigarettes was too strong and not friendly with people who have asthma, someone mixed it with cloves and other kind of spices. Soon, this type of cigarettes becomes a trend in Java, because it has a different flavor and more friendly for Indonesian. And we call it "Kretek".

Few centuries later, Kretek grows stronger. The highest taxes income of this country come from Kretek. Even they still produce hand-made cigarette , which gives some people a job. Kretek itself has become the culture icon of Indonesia.

Imagine what would happen if Indonesia ban cigarettes. Economical crisis, much worse the 1998 incident ; lots of people will lose their job ; less taxes income to fix this country structures.

It's a suicide move for this country if they decide to ban Cigarette. Even when they want to import tobacco, there was lots of negative response.

About the health factor, blame the lifestyle. Smoking doesn't mean you must stop doing exercise/sports or eat healthy food.

Sugar can kill you (diabetes), salts can kill you (hypertension), fast food can kill you, alcohol can kill you.

What's important is moderation (limiting your daily cigarette consume, and don't smoke in public places) and tolerance (government should make a smoking area)

TL;DR. I'm against the cigarette ban.

Smoking has been linked to lung cancer, which is the leading cause of death by cancer, second only to cardiovascular disease. Lung cancer develops rapidly and without symptoms, until it is so advanced that it is difficult to treat. The survival rate of lung cancer patients is quite low. It destroys your life as an example it clouds your brain and and it will kill you

Anyway seriously now, I don't think it would be worth it. It would cause more laid-off people and as it stands, people need more job. Banning this will just make more trouble than its worth. I know it's bad for the others but there's not much of an incentive offered to those who's in the industry. I mean, what happens to the makers and everyone under them when they ban them? They wouldn't be taken care of now would they?

Banning cigarettes is like banning the use of fossil oil. You simply just can't.

Banning it is just like forcing a whole country to stop working.

In simple language, it requires a great effort to implement the ban on cigarettes. People smoke because of their own reasons, albeit stress relieving or just to pass time. Yes, they already know the hazards of smoking (they now even come in packs with disgusting pictures), yet they still chose to smoke. It's like installing a potentially unsafe software that says "USE AT YOUR OWN RISK", but still people use them for their own desire.

Cigarettes should be illegal to minors, yes. But to adults? If they already have the prerogative to watch porn due to them being above 18, why prohibit them to smoke? Besides, it's their life that they're messing with. After all, warnings have been posted and said. We can't do anything powerful about it.

Only half-true. Second-hand smoke not only smells bad, but it's worse for the people around the smoker. People who smoke in public are affecting everyone around them, and parents who smoke are affecting their children.

That being said, I am perfectly fine with smoking tobacco being legal as long as it isn't allowed within or around the premises of public areas, since that seems to be working fairly well so far. As long as I avoid bars and clubs, I almost never have to catch a whiff of cancer.

I think it should be illegal but then the freedom of the smoker will be taken. the tobacco company is pretty unfair to the ones that grow the tobacco so thats one big reason it should be illegal, also all the lung cancer. i read in a studie in a magazine that 300 000 people die every year of passive smoking, they didn't smoke, they should have lived. so i think the tobacco company should be banned to sell to new people and only those who are addicted to it should be able to buy it. the smokers can smoke and everybody else is happy

You were saying tabacco compagnies were unfair with the tabacco growers , you might not know it but groceries are really unfair with milk producers . So if that's an arguement to ban tabacco then you think milk should be banned too ?
