So a study in Canada says corporal punishment from the parent of a child can lower IQ? Oh this is rich...
The study shows that grey matter in the brain is lost resulting in that said child making bad decisions like smoking, drinking, and etcetera.
Well I am going to go out on a limb and say because a child is receiving punishment they end up acting fucked up.
Now say if that child did nothing wrong their whole life and is now a young adult.
Now say that this young adult got into a confrontation with a officer of the law.
Now say that officer was in particularly bad mood and exacted CORPORAL PUNISHMENT on the young adult.
Now say that because of how unbalanced the justice system is that young adult ends up being put under the jail.
Now...say that this young adult went through all the turmoil that an average individual suffers while in a correctional facility.
Finally...say that this young adult now becomes a career criminal because of the severe emotional distress this individual had too go through while in prison hence making bad decisions.
I hope this community sees where I am going with this...The mindless self indulgence these supposed professionals lay on the table is some altered mind based stunt. Open your mind too the fact that it works more then one way.

Well I don't know about Canada but I was givin' "corporal punishment" as a kid and I'm not mess up in the head, for the most part. And if there like some of the kids I've seen(slammin' dogs heads in car-doors, setting cats on fire, etc.) I beleive a swift ass-beating is in order.

I took a few beatings from my parents. Not enough to traumatize me, but enough to learn a lesson when I wasn't cooperating. Although my mom mostly pulled on my ear instead of spankin'.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. Children/Students nowadays can misbehave all they want and never have a scratch laid on them. In the end, kids like them become worthless and undisciplined. We live in a harsh world, and if you're not disciplined, you will come to a dead end in no time. And all because you did not know right or wrong.

While Westerners usually look down upon the 'Asian', you have to admit, Asian students have better manners and a more advanced level of thinking.

Something never addressed is extent. Truthfully no debate on corporal punishment can be set or validated if you don't specify the exact barbaric ritual you are conferring.No, acting the savage to your child doesn't show that much potential harm for rebellion or trauma *borderline sarcasm* but sure enough doing it with something in hand will.

While the non-religious may overlook this sentence, let us not forget, this sentence is disturbingly true. Better to take a beating under your parents (life) rather than having punishment inferred upon you in society (which can be hellish)

I read the article myself yesterday and I was kinda shocked on how inaccurate this article is. I met a lot of people who got spanked or even harmed from their parents in their youths and they turned out just fine, even my friend slaps his kids in the face for them to calm down and they actually LISTEN and become GOOD kids.
A little ass whipping isn't bad and it won't make you stupid.

Despite what the article says, perhaps the journalist is confusing physical punishment with domestic violence. Parents who use corporal punishment on their children do it out of love, not the other way around, and they certainly wouldn't beat a child to the point of hospitalization. The consequences listed in the article seem to adhere more to domestic violence rather than anything else.

I've seen many spoiled brats who have no respect for authority, but I've also seen kids messed up because of abusive parents. non-painful punishments should be used if possible, though pain punishments are much more effective
I was spanked by a big wooden spoon, but I never had injuries from it.

Corporal punishment is absurd and the only thing you are teaching your child is that violence will solve your answers. I can't see how harming your own son, daughter, or student is showing love especially when you use violence and have built up anger inside

I will say yes corporal punishment does get your child to listen, but you are still teaching your child violence and there can be effects from it(just because you have not experienced any side effect from corporal punishment does not mean that there are none)

The video you have posted is a clear example of this person enjoying being the top power of the house and restricting EVERYTHING the poor disabled girl wanted to enjoy.
I truly believe spanking has to be set on the level where the child understands his/her actions afterwards and not left damaged on the ground.
This example of so called "spanking" is not spanking at all, it is a clear example of domestic violence and tyranny.
I also agree corporal punishment can be used as an action of teaching kids, but not to the extent of that level in the video and also in the dark.
