I would like to remind you, and others in this thread, on the actual meaning of the term "chivalry". This is quoted from Wikipedia, but I assure you, one can find similar citations in many other more reputable sources. They will confirm this:
"The Knight's Code of Chivalry was a moral system that stated all knights should
protect others who can not protect themselves, such as widows, children, and elders."
Chivalry is about pitying those who men saw as too weak to take care of themselves. By saying "I am totally chivalrous to women, yeah!" you say "I think this woman cannot fend for herself without my wonderful help".
It's extremely belittling. I wish people would understand that the term and practice actually have shitty roots.
Being nice to people is all good and fine, but don't call it chivalry unless you mean that.
As to women "electing not to use birth control"...you realize that for so many women, it's [the pill, at least, but barrier methods too] still something they cannot afford or are not insured to purchase, correct?
Hell, for many, their families/workplaces/social contexts may deem it immoral and if found out, they lose social standing, or worse, livelihood.
I'm going to respond to the first part about the knights code and chivalry by first stating that your google skills and the fact that you rely on wikipedia proves your own statment wrong. The knights code was never belittling. And the fact that you know nothing about the knights code proves this. Allow me to quote the tenents of the knights code as illistrated in The Song of Roland.
Knights Codes of Chivalry are as follows:
To fear God and maintain His Church
To serve the liege lord in valour and faith
To protect the weak and defenceless
To give succour to widows and orphans
To refrain from the wanton giving of offence
To live by honour and for glory
To despise pecuniary reward
To fight for the welfare of all
To obey those placed in authority
To guard the honour of fellow knights
To eschew unfairness, meanness and deceit
To keep faith
At all times to speak the truth
To persevere to the end in any enterprise begun
To respect the honour of women
Never to refuse a challenge from an equal
Never to turn the back upon a foe
Now if I'm not mistaken, one of the core tenents about 3 up from the bottom is RESPECT THE HONOUR OF WOMEN. That seems pretty important to a knight. If you want to get on the topic of defending the defenseless, if someone comes at you with a gun or a knife to kill a woman, who would you rather have with you, the man who is chivalrous who willingly throws his life on the line to protect you or some guy who believes that you can defend yourself and walks away? The weak and defenceless apply to more than just women, it applied to all peasents, men, women, children, orphans, elderly, farm animals, horses.
Other than the fact that I'm not religious, ask anyone here and those are some pretty good morals to live by, and any woman would be damn happy to have a man that not only puts his life on the line for her but also respects her.
As for the second part on birth control, don't give me your lame excuses. You want repect for women, don't act stupid. Birth control is readily available in all parts of first world nations, and if you are claiming you can't afford a box of condoms, or it's against your religion to use it. Then it's obviously against your religion to have sex in the first place outside of marriage.
Can't afford it or worried about getting pregant? Keep your damn legs closed. This is one of the things that highly bothers me, women blaming men for everything in sex, it takes 2 to tango and remember, "It's your body". I'm pro abortion, I think women AND men should have a choice and currently you do. Don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex. People thing they are entitled today, rediculous.
