Your opinions on the death penalty

Topic pretty much says it all.

I think the death penalty should be used on people who murdered 4-5+ people(not at the same time, 4-5+ people on separate dates. proven mentally unstable murderers should get life since they can't even think straight [people who claim they're crazy but aren't to get a lesser sentence should still get the death sentence]) and terrorists who actually killed people instead of the ones that didn't get the chance, provided that they're still alive

Yeah, the death penalty has its uses. If you have no regard for human life, why must others have regard for yours?

But then again, instead of death there should be some kind of torture penalty. For some, death is simply too light a sentence...

I am not against it, however, i think they should make it cheaper.

The reason you can't torture is it's against constitution and on a bigger scale it's against international law.

I think the death penalty should be enforced more for a couple reasons.

Personally people who commit horrible crime such as Rape,child abuse/rape/murder or any other very horrible crime should be shot...no letal injection or nothin like that,pure horror fear and pain. No mercy for someone who took the life of the innocent. They should have to suffer for what they did.

Of course it should be proven to the point that has a for sure guilty charge of the accused.

The problem with executing a first-time murderer/rapist/whatever is the chance that he might in fact be innocent, at least theoretically . Now, if he does the same thing twice... well, congratulations, we can now get rid of you.

Bullets are cheap and there are people on this planet that just don't need to exist.

I don't believe than anyone should be executed as a penalty. Killing someone in order to prevent imminent harm to yourself or another is one thing, but executing someone who has already been apprehended and could presumably be imprisoned instead is not necessary to immediate save innocent lives.

This follows from my moral belief that human beings have a worth and "human dignity" simply from being human that doesn't have to be earned and can never be lost.

Death penalty is just a waste of life. I would not take a life if there was nothing to gain from his/her death. Criminals should just go to jail and be put to some service. Get something out of his life. Putting criminals to work is neither unconstitutional or inhumane, and you actually get something out his life. To me, death as a punishment is such a waste. Profit = gain. Gain = good.

I'm against it. Law is to educate and not to avenge in my opinion.
It's better to make those guys work in a waste disposal site.

Thats a good point hard labor might do some good.

2,310,984 prisoners were held in federal or state prisons or in local jails

lets just say that only 1% are in for murder although I believe the number higher than that, sadly.

23,109.84 murders * $20,108 yearly = $464,692,662.72

Talk about a waste of almost a half billion dollars, and thats just the US stats.

Well the US economy is already in the shitter with the ongoing "war" in iraq and afghanistan...I wish our country would make better choices. Also i think inmates should have to work to pay for food and board it shouldnt be bed and 3 square meals you should have to earn them.

The problem is that we only let the mininum security inmates "work" generally picking up trash or cutting grass along highways. They've tried to start letting medium and max security with good behavior records work too through chain-gang for safety reason, but the special interest groups cry that its unjust and inhumanie. Even though the inmates themselves said they be happy to be in a chain-gang aslong as they got to do something besides sit around all day doing nothing. And when I say "nothing I'm talking about sitting in their cells with books from the library, radios and tvs.

I really dont see why they would give people who've violated the laws any form of electronic entertainment...
