Hey, I was just wondering what everyones thought were about the new Devil May Cry game. I am having a hard time coming to grasp as to why Capcom is allowing the series to be rebooted. The first four games were all great and had some of the most memorable characters in video game history, yet Capcom allows a new game studio to make it. From what I have read in magazines, blogs, and game sites the whole DMC story that I have come to love is being skewered in made into a parallel universe where Dante has both Angel and Devil powers. It also does not help that voice actor Reuben Langdon will not be the voice of everyones sarcastic devil hunter, Reuben has been the best at it so far and I hope he returns when Capcom sees how bad a mistake this game will be. The makers of the game are trying there best to make people like the new combat system, but when that's the only thing your pushing for it leaves a lot open to the plot of the game. Sorry if this seems like a rant but I wanted to know what you guys think of the reboot.
It also doesn't help that Dante looks like gothic Robert Pattinson in the reboot.
Maybe Capcom is pulling a coca cola company blunder on us. Once we get a bad taste of the reboot, they'll release a DMC classic and make millions off of it.
Seriously though, I think the game would've been better off just having a different title. Its like they're just using the dmc name just so it can sell and they're afraid of being called copycats.
I find the game play and graphics of the new DMC quite interesting as seen in the trailers, I think what most fans are pissed off about is the new character. Remember Metal Gear 2? It was a GREAT game, a major improvement over the last game and some fans hated it just because it did not feature the iconic protagonist that is Solid Snake. You can see in the trailers that it made a major improvement like more detailed enemies on the screen, smooth framerate and amazing graphics (we can only judge graphics for now, just wait for the demo)
We'll never be quite sure if this new reboot would be better or worse (game play wise) until it releases, so until then we can just criticize the horrible character design.
So far from what i've seen it looks to much of a step away from epicness. Hopefully i'm wrong and they'll eventually have some epic Goth architect other than streets and buildings. One thing is for certain tho, the combat is much slower. Also with the work they did with NG3 just shows how much they truly know about the hack-n-slash genre. NOTHING!
But with all the fan butthurt, I'm waiting to see if they(Capcom) will change anything that might cause a big impact in some way, good or bad.
>Implying if Capcom actually listens to both eastern and western fan comments
Hell, Capcom won't chhange anything since they were the ones who demanded te revamp of what Dante looks like. Yes the graphics look supurb, but when you slap the DMC label on something the fans expect to see DMC. If this game were a stand alone game with different characters then sure, I wouldn't have any problem with it. The main thing that gripes me is that I cannot wrap my head around why Capcom would revamp and distort a series that is so popular with millions of fans while it also does well in the gaming market. It just makes no sense that you would throw a revamp out that could affect the sales of future releases.

From the looks of the revamp, and the fact that a western developer is on it, I think Capcom wanted to appeal to more western gamers.
But as far as their blind, western gamers already expected that heavy mixture of western touches on an eastern developed game.
I guess Capcom wanted to try something out of the box by trying to revamp an already popular game.
Seems like Vergil, or whoever you guys want to call him in this version, is making his NT debut at last.
Can't say I'm pleased with what I see so far, but seeing a different side to him may change things up a bit.
Ha, I was actually about to ask you what your opinions on his new look were. I think it's alright, but his personality kinda bugs me. Vergil actually smiles for once, haha.
I'm not going to comment from just one trailer. I think it's misleading and total uniformed to cast judgment before the game is even out. Plus, it's an alternate reality, for all you know he's still a manipulative asshole or takes a turn for the worse.
Again, this is the first trailer to reveal him, so I'm going to wait to see where it goes.

Well, it's taken me a while before I can come up with some conclusions about the changes made to Vergil, I'm still going to voice out what I think about it so far.
A fellow and good otaku friend from the States mailed me this link revealing more about this NT's take on Vergil: Gone are the cold, deadpan serious attitude that Vergil personifies and is now been given the Bruce Wayne/Tony Stark treatment, he's now a mulit-millionaire using technology to research, hunt and kill demons to avenge the death of his mother and to rescue his enslaved father from the demons. He also said some interesting things that could be relevant for any upcoming DMC games in the future.
'Not sure if you've heard, but the new Devil May Cry universe has its Vergil.
'Now I'm even more interested in this new universe and hope it does well enough that someday we'll see a crossover of the Original Dante and Vergil meeting (and teaming up with) their alternate selves.
Mike'
Don't get me wrong, I'm digging the new black and blue look he has, he closely resembles his father this time around and although he seems more brotherly towards Dante, something that I'm hoping to see more if the plot allows it. But it's hard not to miss the personality he's known for and the short vocabulary he speaks in DMC3, versus the long spoken talk for preserving humanity he's now gotten.
'"WHY ISN'T THIS WORKING?!"
"Time for the clown to bow out, Arkham."
"Shut up."
Vergil was always a talker, but by no mean he keep the conversation going.
He would get straight to the point, keep his lines sharp, just like his blade.
And speaking of blade, I'm hoping he's just as fast as the original Vergil and not just holding that katana for show.
If Capcom makes him into a playable character, I would consider this just for the story, but I'm still waiting for something to impress me from this version of DmC, the combat is still too slow and simple for somebody whose mastered DMC 3's combat system like myself. And the dialogue still needs work, making Dante into an f-bomb doesn't cut it for me, I mean really, did you guys see that boss fight video?
