So I just decided to finally get around to playing the demo, and I gotta say, it's nice to be playing a DMC game again. It definitely still has a good DMC feel, but different, so I will say Ninja Theory did a good job with that. The controls feel good and really I never got mad at the game for doing stupid things. Anytime I messed up was basically my fault. I personally enjoy the feel of combat. The music could be better though.
As for Donte, I'm still not impressed. I miss the old Dante, obviously, but I'm still giving Donte a chance. To me though, it's like he's trying to be a wiseass smart mouth like Dante, but just comes off as that little brother who's trying too hard to live up to his big brother. Plus he has a stupid face. Also, why is there a Union Jack on his jacket? I really feel like they're trying to get this "crusty punk" Dante across and I'm just not feeling it. I don't need "Anarchy in the UK" Donte.
I am glad they're trying to do something different though instead of taking the Dante we all know and love, and fucking him up. Personally, I don't want another DMC 2 where the game sucks and Dante isn't even that cool.
All in all, there are things that could be better, for sure, but it still feels and plays like Devil May Cry, and that's a good thing. Would I pay 60 dollars for this game? Most likely, no. Would I pay 20-40? Perhaps. If it dips to 20 and I still don't have it, I would definitely pick it up.
Take this for what you will.
A note about the Union Jack; it's a reference to NT being located in Great Britain, (England, to be more precise, but you get the point, right?)
DmC definitely went about a different direction, even for a reboot.
Personally, just from playing the demo, I had forgotten for a minute or so that it was running on the Unreal 3 engine, till I remembered that Dishonored, which came out not too long ago, also ran on that same engine.
To me, even though Dante was changed, in terms of appearance, he still has that cocky, smartass attitude. His sense of humor is noticeabley darker, but I think it's not too bad, really.
