Since quotes doesn't seem to work properly at the moment, this will have to suffice. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The viewers can already infer from the ending credits that Otonashi chose to disappear. It's not hard, really. They can do without the last 21 seconds. Or maybe the bonus ep would clarify a few more things for us? Either way, the last bit really surprised me, but it didn't give the Hinata x Yui vibes.

Sadly enough I believe you're overestimating the eye for details of some people, and I'm not saying it had the same feeling as the one between Yui and Hinata, because I wasn't pointing out how they did the scene, I was guessing on why they did it.

Kill is such an ugly word.[/h]
I agree, thus the "", but it was a simple term for what happened because in one sense she does die, and that because of Otonashi, I'm not saying it was a bad thing.

Remember, Kanade left with her own volition. And if you think about it, Kanade could've disappeared several episodes ago but stayed until the very bitter end like Naoi and Hinata. Otonashi grasping for her vanished body sure was tearjerking somehow.[/h]
But also remember that she begged Otonashi to tell her he loved her, because otherwise she wouldn't disappear.

It was originally Otonashi's plan to stay in that world with Kanade to help others like the SSS. Otonashi's shown to be very selfless in earlier eps (with his sister, with the passengers in the train accident, and with everyone in the Afterworld), now it's the time for him to be selfish. And his only one selfish wish was to be with Kanade in that world -- maybe for all eternity. And this, is something Kanade couldn't accept because she has attained her wish, her desire of thanking the person who gave her his heart. Physically and metaphorically speaking, Otonashi fits both.[/h]
It is never really stated in the series that he plans to stay after the members of the Brigade has been saved, this idea doesn't come forth until this last episode. The only thing you get to know is that he plans to make all the members of the brigade disappear.

If that isn't romantic, I don't know what it is.
"Let me believe what you've been believing. That living is wonderful...Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for loving me." --Kanade[/h]
Yeah, I totally agree with that.

Kanade wasn't forced to vanish. She vanished because she's fulfilled her goal, and that was to thank Otonashi, either because of their circumstantial relationship in their past life or because she's growing to love him more. Either way, she moved on with her life and death. And that, cherishing life, has been the main point at all.[/h]
No, Kanade wasn't forced to vanish, but Otonashi was forced to make her disappear, and that is the sad part. He was forced to, in a sense, kill the girl he loves in order to make her happy. Leaving him all alone in the afterlife, and don't forget that in the episode before we heard the story of how the Angel Player was created - A man whose lover left before him, triggering him to make himself into a NPC.
And yeah, the last scene was kinda out of place, but I'm still quite convinced that the scene's sole purpose was to reassure the audience of the happy ending.
