Thats the excuse somone uses for every time they cant explain something stupid.
Yeah, suspension of disbelief is just a bunch of bullshit. It's not important at all. It's not a very basic thing that you'll learn in Lit 101 in middle school, not at all.
Suspend of disbelief is important, and I mentioned it because it's important. It's basically a way of saying, "Take the stick out of your ass and enjoy the show/book/movie/etc."
In Watchmen, Dr. Manhattan's existence and powers don't make any sense at all, but it's okay, because it's not like he woke up one morning with amazing powers. There is a little bit of reasoning to it. Same goes with Lelouch; there are reasons for it, and though they may not be sound and 100% realistic, they allow the viewer to suspend his/her disbelief and enjoy the show. Like everyone has already said, Lelouch got to them when they were in a bind, so it's understandable that they'd listen to him because otherwise, they'd die. Afterwards, they begrudgingly accept him as their leader, after seeing that he's a better strategist and tactician than any of them. What's so hard to believe about that? What makes that totally unbelievable? If I was them, I'd listen to Lelouch in a second, because I'd be tired of getting my ass handed to me all the time by Britannia. You wouldn't do the same? You wouldn't listen to a guy with a good plan, who has shown positive results, when your friends and allies died beside you because you came up with a shitty plan? Yeah, he could have been a spy, but what did they have to lose? Zero turned the little band of fighters into a decent army that could fight against Britannian forces and win. Before Zero, they were shit, and without Zero, they would have been shit.
Oh yeah, one more thing - if they hadn't let Zero take charge, there would have been no show! If Lelouch didn't happen to be on the road when he was, and if he didn't happen to find C.C., there would have been no show. And if C.C. didn't have a special power that she gave to Lelouch, there would have been no show. That's why suspension of disbelief is important, because without it, we'd go mad, trying to figure out what the odds are that the exiled prince of Britannia, who hates Britannia and the Emperor, would find a strange woman with a magical power and be able to fight against Britannia. Why wasn't your first argument, "Why did Lelouch find it? It's more likely that some idiot fuck with no beef with Britannia would find C.C."? That's right, because it's a stupid argument, because of
suspension of disbelief.
