How did you get into anime?

hmm as a kid i kinda liked shows like Power Rangers more than anime.. until I saw Bulma from DBZ :)

When I was a kid, centuries ago, my two favorite cartoons were Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) and G-force (Gatchaman). Back then I had no idea where they came from or even what anime was. They were just kick ass cartoons to me. After Voltron went off the air real life distracted me and I got out of anime until years later, when I had a job and could afford to buy tapes. I saw Star Blazers on sale on VHS in the mall and recalled how awesome it was to me and it rekindled the interest. I've been watching and collecting anime and manga steadily ever since.

Ghost Fighter, Gundam, but the anime that really inspired
me to like it to an extent that I watch anime more than
anything else on the TV is Gatekeeper. I really liked it
up until now. It's one of the few anime's I don't get tired

Been watching animes since I was a kid. First ones I watched were probably Pokemon and Doraemon or maybe short story animes on NHK (Nintama Rantarou ect.)

Toonami - gundam wing - dragon ball z pokemon - tenchi muyo -bebop - my very first anime series, I used to rush back from school just for them. (Wing remains one of my favourite shows to date)

i just found it in t.v by myself and i was 8 years old.
i dont know why i got hooked by it i just find it interesting.

Okay, once again, I'm gonna leave Moomins out of this because I don't count that as anime eventhough it is.
As a kid (12-13 years ago, I'm now 22) I used to be in my brother's room or atleast walk in and out of there all the time, all day long.
And some time when my brother had a friend over and he was watching some anime, I stopped to check it out. Well that was actually hentai and I asked what it was, it was 'Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend'.
So I watched it with a friend actually, who also watched an anime (besides Moomins) for the first time then.
Liked it, next time I saw my brother and his friend watch some anime, asked what it was.
I think it was Evangelion, can't even remember my first anime, I'm so ashamed =(
But that's how I got into it anyway.

A few years later, I would bump across Evangalion, which turned into raiding the closest video shops for more anime to watch, which slowly led me to scouring the internet for newer stuff since Madman in Australia was taking too long to release anime DVD's.

I guess I started aroung when I about 12 or 13 i watched Outlaw Star on adult swim and been hooked ever since.

The first anime that I saw was Voltes V!!!!!!!!! Laser sword with a bunch of ultra magnetic something and your pawned with a big "V"!
I first saw it when I was annoying my dad that I really wanted to go outside and play in the rain. (Still wanna do it today but in summer)
He just kinda replied with "Here just watch this anime it's cool."

My dad told me to watch Dragon Ball when I was around 6 and since then, I've been watching anime =/

First anime I watched was DBZ and Sailor Moon, both on Cartoon Network's Toonami.
I was only like 7 or 8 years old back then, I think. I actually liked Sailor Moon a bit more than DBZ. I think it had a bit better storyline even with all the edits to the US version. Or maybe it was just because of the girls... Either way I think I was looked at a bit weird for liking a "girly" show.
I actually don't think I realized the shows were imported from Japan until later.
After that, it was Pokemon. Everything Pokemon. I got Pokemon Blue and Pokemon cards and some limited edition Burger King Pokemon Gold Plated Trading Card. I found Missingno. and used the "clone glitch" in Silver/Gold. Haven't really played or watched any Pokemon in a while though.
Then there was also Cardcaptor Sakura on KidsWB and Zoids and either Gundam G or Gundam Wing or "Something" Gundam (I forget) on CN. I remember that as it was the first time I remember seeing a real Japanese anime ending, not some edited remake. ("Shining Finger! Something something something!")

I *think* it was around 2005 when I first encountered hentai. I watched whatever was on TV, until one day I found Inuyasha playing on Adult Swim. That led later led me to watch Bleach and Blood+ and then Code Geass. And then Gurren Lagann on Sci-Fi "SyFy".
Now it's mainly Crunchroll/Hulu/Netflix, along with some fansubs.
And I'm asian, so maybe that means something.
