Worst Anime Purchase

I don't know how many replies this thread will get because I know a lot of people never buy anime-related things, but I'll still give it a shot.

Have you ever bought some anime thing that turned out to be a bad idea? Whether it's a DVD, volume of manga, t-shirt, figure, or whatever - as long as it in some way had to do with anime culture, it counts.

I kind of wish I hadn't bought the special edition of the first Haruhi DVD. It cost between $50-60, and it came with the DVD (with four episodes), a CD single, a pencil board, an iron-on decal for a shirt, and a hair ribbon accessory that fits over your head. Well, guess what - I've never listened to the CD because I downloaded the equivalent of it long before the series got released in the US, I've never done anything with the pencil board because it's small and doesn't have a very exciting picture on it, the decal is small and I haven't even put it on a shirt yet, and the hair ribbon is only good for making yourself look like an idiot. I would have been better off just buying the regular DVD, or waiting for the box set of the entire season to come out.

So, have you ever bought anything that ended up being a bad investment? Ever got a DVD or volume of manga thinking that it'd be awesome, only to have it suck balls?

.hack//Legend of the Twilight

I should have known better. .hack//SIGN was only so-so, but had some kind of intangible enjoyment to the series, that I just can't really explain, aside from the terrific music arrangement of Yuki Kaijura. However, whatever that little bit of enjoyment was in SIGN was completely lost in Legend of the Twilight. That said, I did think the anime was better than the manga of Legend of the Twilight, but that isn't saying much.

I'm glad I saw it because I used to be a huge Dot Hack fan, but I should have just watched it online like I did with Roots, both of which are not worth owning in the slightest.

I bought the second volume of a manga called "Vampire Doll". I later bought the first volume and then dropped the series. I'm not even sure if I should have continued reading into the series or not to be honest.

I bought Naruto Clash of Ninja 1 over Naruto Clash of Ninja 2 when both were available because Clash of Ninja 1 was first. It has like... enough content to cover the end of the Zabuza arc and that is it.

I bought Ultimate Ninja 4 for the DS. You thought clash of the ninja had no content.

I love ToraDora!! don't get me wrong, but I felt like I wasted my money when I bought the special limited edition dvd. I may have gotten an 8x11 poster, a penguin from Disagea? and an episode guide but I didn't realize it was only SEASON 1 til I purchased it...like, for $50+...and I mostly like the second season. I've never bought an anime dvd before so this was a lesson learned...

Banner of the Stars 1 and 2. I like Crest of the Stars, but banner I thought could have been better.

House of tongues on dvd for $50 waste of money, The sex scenes were very little plus they were rape and the story was fucked and ended on a sad note leaving the viewer to think their was more to the story (or another ova) but it never happens.

I bought Dark Love and A time to Screw at an A kon Dallas. I did it to be "authentic". Little did I know that thew sex scenes in those two H-anime were just plain bizarre, ESPECIALLY DARK LOVE. From here on out, if I can get it on the internet, I'm not buying it IRL....Except for the School Days VN.

no such thing as worst anime purchase. they're all good. its just what you make of it.

I don't actually buy anime, manga on the other hand, when I was young I bought uggggg, 2 volumes of naruto, 4 volumes of bleach, and 2 volumes of Rosario+Vampire, all of which I now dislike very much.

I bought the first dvd of Gundam: 08th MS Team for $20 including tax. I love this series, so what was the problem? I was later able to buy the entire series, including Miller's Report, for two dollars more. That experience taught me to never buy anime on impulse when in a movie store. Online deals are almost always better.

I bought the first DVD of Banner of the Stars (just the first five episodes). I had seen Crest of the Stars on TV, liked it, and wanted to see the sequel. Unfortunately, I never had the money to buy the other DVDs. And Banner ended up coming on TV, so I watched it that way.

The single DVD just sits on my shelf, lonely.



Sometimes it comes down to taste, but sometimes, it was simply a bad choice. I've had friends who bought stuff they'd never heard of because it looked cool, only to find out that it sucked. (And they were things that were genuinely bad.)

One time I even had a friend that bought a random tape of Blue Seed (that was pretty far back) because he wanted some hot anime babes to fap to, and the Blue Seed tape had a bunch of girls wearing towels on the cover. It included the hot springs episode but no nudity whatsoever and wasn't hot at all! That was definitely a bad purchase.

I don't think I have ever purchased a bad anime. But what comes close is some bad Funimation blu ray upscales. So glad they were not that expensive though.

Anime... nah, last anime thing I purchased was Excel Saga's DVDs. If I can download stuff, I download.

Manga, now we're talking. I recently bought a volume of "NG Life", I was just randomly picking out stuff especially the ones from Tokyopop. Of the 12 books I bought that single one sucked balls.

Also i have the complete series of Dragon ball to gt, NGE, VIdeo girl ai, Ghost in the shell, DNA^2, and like 20 other series IN VHS AND I DON"T HAVE ONE ANYMORE... half you can find dvd/bd of them...
