This might have been the greatest thing that's ever happened in a while here. I would have immediately +rep'd you for doing so but alas, I (and basically all of us) no longer can.

Btw brother J, I might as well tell you this beforehand that if ever you decide to bring it(rep system) back, I'll be making it my business to -rep you for about a week. You'll just have to wait and see by then if I'm just kidding or not; anyhow, please do look forward to it. :wink:


Anyways, I'd be sticking around my comfort zone as I never plan on associating myself with any of the existing groupies in and out of (in relation to) fakku, ever. That's probably the main reason as to why I stopped caring and shit; this community is way too divided imo... and imo alone.

Most of the people who've said, "I'm glad the rep system is gone" have made a big deal about losing rep before. Maybe butthurt is ruling their decision rather than what's good for the community. Also, most of them aren't big uploaders. Maybe what hinagiku said is right, just remove the - rep and we might have a good system.

I don't really agree with sindalf or tsurayu about not wanting uploading users simply because they do it for the rep... Who cares what their motivation is? It still adds to the community. They can't be guaranteed rep which is why I assume we will see a decline (probably not a major one) in user uploads; and you don't HAVE to rep someone for it, so why would their motivation even be a concern to you?

I do believe the community is better off without rep; we may have to deal with short term issues but in all honesty we have eliminated one of the larger issues that currently plagued the forums(not that I believe it was a large issue). One concern of mine is that it may influence new members to spam more often; without the arbitrary number that reputation provided new members may start to value the only other arbitrary number which grants titles, it is only a theory. I just can't imagine what the next big forum "issue" will be; probably something just as inane and useless.

A simple thank you goes a long way. You don't need to be +repped every time you upload.

I thought we learned that as kids. We don't need to be praised for every single thing we do. Humbleness over vanity, if knowing that what you provided for the community made at least someone happy, isn't enough for you then you have your own problems to take care of.

Im not gonna say that i speak for all uploaders on Fakku, but i do belive i speak for the majority.

We DO NOT upload content to Fakku, or in general, just to get rep, if anything that's just a bonus that's nice to get as it shows that people appreciates the hours we spend uploading games/video/doujins etc.
We do it because we like sharing our stuff with the community.

Simple as that.

I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to imply that all or even most uploaders on Fakku are like that, but there are some that do that.

I don't believe they do either but I don't think you can say that honestly, no matter how many uploaders you've spoken to, I think those that do upload for rep would lie about their motivation in a heart beat. Regardless of your personal motivation we can't read the minds of others(i've tried). Let's not make assumptions.

Agreed. At this point I would have repped you, but there is no rep option... D: The rep option seemed to be a stronger way to say, "I agree with you. Please continue contributing your thoughts in this manner." Yes, it's not necessary, but still sent the point across better, IMO.



What Waar said answers this post perfectly. You're the one leeching and the uploaders are the ones giving. Who cares about what their motives are as long as you get what you want and the uploaders gets what they want?

I care when there is bound to be a few who are going to let their vanity get in the way and stop uploading only because they can't get their precious +reps anymore. That's what I'm trying to say. I'm not to trying to mothball all uploaders, but there are some who care only about their rep.

And what I'm trying to say is that it's pretty pathetic if and when we have any uploaders who are going to do exactly that when they should be a bit humble about it and realize that they don't need some arbitrary number tacked on after their post.

So it might be idealistic, that doesn't mean I can't say what I feel about it.

Again, it comes down to them giving you what you want. They make the demands, not you. If they want rep and don't get it, I see no problem in them packing up and stopping since it's something you wouldn't have had without them anyway.

I'm pretty sure I said no and gave an explanation of it. As I said, this isn't a new concept. It's all around us, and it's common sense. I don't have problems with common sense most of the time.

Anywho, Although i'll miss the rep system, it was pretty much useless from the beginning. Aside as a thanks for doing something the people like or as a "Fuck you" for doing something they don't like, it's pretty much useless.

So, yeah. We'll miss the Rep system, but unless it would have a few new features, I think the community would be better off without it.

Pathetic sure but it's poor reasoning to remove the system. Even if someone wants my rep for the day for uploading something, I am still better off that he uploaded it and so is the community(regardless whatever his real motivation is). Don't misunderstand; I agree with you that the system was fairly broken and misused I simply think that your point is based on flawed logic and that I do not agree with it. You seem to want to argue a moral point as opposed to practicality; sorry I just don't believe it's proper justification.

To be fair I did say I understand it was awfully idealistic of me, although I will argue that I don't agree with PersonDude's logic about it comparing directly to supply and demand.

I don't really think it's a frivolous reason either. I think it's as good as every other reason that members have come up with in relation to how they feel and treat the reputation system.

guess we agree to disagree. I will gladly take the uploader who wants my rep over no uploader at all.

Explanation for supply and demand example:
It's similar in a way because people sell items at a higher price because people buy it more often giving the sellers money and they will also order more to sell. Let's compare this with the uploaders gaining rep and uploading more because they're gaining rep. Then there are times when the item doesn't do so well, meaning the sellers don't gain money. So the sellers either lower the price, or pull the item off the shelves. We can compare this to the uploaders not gaining rep and stopping their uploads.

Meh, I guess you got me there. Oh well, I still don't like it, but I'm getting to the point now that I'm going way too preachy, and those kind of people disgust me. Heh.



I know, but the actual concepts of supply and demand are a lot more complex than dealing with uploaders and reputation. I guess I should have said I didn't care for your analogy more than seeming like I didn't understand what you were implying.

Read through the whole thing, and I think for something that is claimed to be useless, this thread is way too intense....

I mean, why bother about reps at all? Those who don't care about it at all know better than to waste their time in this kinda debate, and will just ignore the rep altogether...and those who use rep as their little bit of fun, well, why rip off them that little pleasure they have?

If it's about drama, then simple...just remove -rep and I think it will be solved. Most of it comes from people who rage from being -repped anyway. No point in preaching about the proper way of spending reps...it's given as a right to all. If you don't want it, don't use it. It's just numbers, right?
