Why was this shit resurrected? The apocalypse has been getting predicted every other week since humans first invented stupidity and I'm pretty sure the Earth still exists. And the fact that the Mayans "predicted" this (using the term loosely since this is just morons leaping to the conclusion that their inability to make a calendar that never ends is a prediction of the earth ending) should make it even less credible since they sucked ass. If they could predict the end of the world they would've been able to keep themselves from getting their asses handed to them repeatedly by every nation with less skin pigment than them.
The Planet X theory is even worse since it requires not only a belief that the eyes of retarded people are more powerful than modern space telescopes but that we aren't capable of finding a planet the size of Jupiter in our immediate solar system; which is basically like missing an elephant fighting a monster truck in your front lawn as you simultaneously test your new high definition video camera and 30 mega-pixel camera by taking pictures of your lawn.
More than failing to promote real news I hate the modern media for bringing up stupid shit like this. It doesn't even have to spawn actual belief. Fence sitters are enough to make me angry since this is the kind of thing that should very easily be dismissed as idiocy.

This is obviously fake. End world scenarios have been predicted again and again and even if they weren't I still wouldn't even THINK about believing this.

True that. Popular Science included the possibility of any world-ending scenario coming from the LHC in their article about it, they said the probability of this is absurdly high.

I have to say at first I was like "lol another christian fantasy" but the mayans... I doubt it will happen jesus coming but maybe the worlds will end xD Mayans were pretty smart lol So if Jesus doesn't come will this disprove Christianity once and for all?

I don't know what all has been said in this thread, but from what I gather the end of the world theory is based on an ancient Mayan belief. The Mayan's were wise beyond their learns, often predicting things that would happen thousands of years later, such as the summer solstice would be happening, they are also the creators of mathematics. They existed of philosophers, astronomers, scientists, etc.
From what I read they were a very advanced for their time civilization, whom without them society may not have progressed as it did.
Onto the theory itself though; Whether or not I believe they are accurately predicting the end of the world isn't the question here.

I saw a "documentary" on sale for $12.99 in HMV today for "The science and myth of 2012". I don't know how many people are going to buy a 10 second movie where a dude says "It's all bullshit" but that's not my prerogative. Of course, it's probably just a bunch of loose-changey rubbish but I still don't care.

This is dumb. The Y2K was dumb enough but 2012? Who in their right mind would really give such a crap deal about it. Nothing bad is going to happen. I apologize if I offend Christians or Catholics but Jesus cannot simply rise from the dead and lead a bunch of people to salvation. He's dead, plain and simple, and last I checked the dead cannot become alive again. If the world was going to end 9 years ago why didn't it? Why? Because it's bullshit. Nothing "apocalyptic" happened then and it won't happen 3 years from now.

I guess I've never really looked into it beyond why the world is supposed to end and a few theories like "Planet X is going to hit earth/throw off the gravity/other bad things" or that the magnetic poles on the earth will reverse (which wouldn't destroy anything since the Earth and sun both do it at intervals [I want to say a few hundred million years but I might be wrong] and both still exist). There's definitely gotta be fringe groups that are Christian splinter cells but there's nothing from the Pope or any shit like that is there?
