This is quite a controversial topic...
anyways, I honestly have to say I don't think god exists, but I mean it only in a physical way. I don't think there is a being watching over us from the heavens, checking our activity.
But I do think god exists "spiritually". In people's souls or hearts. I think that when people first made a religion or god, they were looking for somebody to follow, or believe in. A "spiritual leader", if I may. God, in that form, I believe still exists, even in the souls of non-believers.
Basically, god is "hope" that we all carry.
If God does not exist, as you say, how can one have a soul?
What is the need of a soul if it has nowhere to go at the end?
EDIT: Never mind >_>. I've got to re-read this stuff before posting....
I don't understand. You believe God does not exist physically, but that he exists spiritually? And even then you go on to say that man made God up. If that is so, then God "spiritually" does not exist either.
Sorry, I guess I don't believe that god exists either way. When I said "spiritually", I meant that god IS hope. Literally. Because our belief in god was strong, god exists. God is a FORM of hope that man created.
So I take back my comment of "being in souls of non-believers". But we all do have hope.
So god as we think it does not exist.
Sorry if anything is contradictory in my comment.
God as you think it does not exist. I'm still arguing that a Creator exists (or existed) when the universe was made. I still don't have all the facts or ideas down, but at the moment I still believe a creator (call him God or Jesus or whatever) exists (or existed at the time of creation.

i saw a show on the history channel a while ago that said the bible was put together by a roman emperor and chritianity was made the official state religeion in an effort to unite the roman empire. 400yrs after christ's death.
also, compare many of the stories to roman/greek mythology. many christian holidays come from pegan celebrations. christmas was the winter solstice, easter was the spring equinox.
but that's just the bible. not so much to do with 'god'.
Interesting! I'd like to see that.
And yes, pretty much the 1st half of the bible can be said to be taken from other cultures.
